Chapter 39: First Incident (4)

"Now!" one of the student shouted.

The two students who were fighting the monster moved at the same time.

One of them was a beastman with gray cat-like ears on his head. He wore metal gauntlets that were shining in a dark blue color, mana swirling around them.

He bent his knees and jumped high into the air. Mana gathered around his right fist.

"Haah!"

He swung his fist downward and punched the monster straight on its forehead.

BOOM!

The impact produced a dull explosion-like sound. The monster’s head was forced downward from the heavy punch.

At the same time, the second student moved.

He was very tall, nearly 200 cm, with a strong build. He was holding a large battle axe in both hands.

As the monster’s head was forced down by the punch, the tall student stepped forward and swung his battle axe horizontally with perfect timing.

Slash!

The sharp blade cut deep into the monster’s neck. Dark blood burst out like a fountain.

SCREEEEE!!

The monster tried to scream, but the sound was cut short. The tall student roared and pushed the axe deeper.

"DIE!"

With one final powerful pull, he dragged the axe across the monster’s neck.

CRRRAAACK!

The neck was almost cut in half, and the monster’s huge body shook violently before collapsing to the ground.

THUD!

The ground trembled slightly as the monster fell lifelessly.

For a few seconds, no one spoke.

The beastman landed on the ground and shook his hand slightly. The tall student pulled his axe out from the monster’s neck, breathing heavily.

Then both of them looked toward Noah, who was standing some distance away.

Noah walked towards them.

"Nice! You two killed it," he said while coming closer to them. He bent and pulled out the spear from its leg.

"Thanks for the help," the beastman with cat-like ears thanked Noah. The young man had green eyes. He was a few centimeters shorter in height compared to Noah. His gray hair had black streaks in the middle, while the cat-like tail looked more like a tiger’s, since it also had black stripes on the gray tail.

Beside him stood a tall muscular man. Nearly 200 centimeters tall, his skin slightly tanned, short brown hair.

"Your aim was good. Thanks," the tall man said with a heavy voice, befitting his huge build. He talked at a slower speed than normal.

’Is he a Barbarian?’ Noah wondered after seeing his huge size.

Barbarians exist in this world. They do not possess a separate nation. Rather, they have tribes spread in different sides of the empire.

Some live in forests. Some live in deserted lands, while some live in snowy mountains. The man in front of Noah did look like he was from those Barbarian tribes.

"Don’t mention it. I am Noah Eldritch," Noah introduced himself.

Those two looked like they were from another class.

"I am Regnar Duskfang," the beastman introduced himself.

"I am Draven Rockbane." Following him, the barbarian-looking man also spoke his name.

"Well, formalities are enough. We should go and kill other monsters and try to find a way. It seems we are stuck inside a barrier-like thing. If not for that, instructors might have come to help us by now," Noah told them what he thought.

"Ohhh! You are smart!" Draven said with a surprised expression.

"What? That’s common sense. What smart is there? Anyways, let’s go and find a way out," Regnar said while looking at Draven like he was some kind of idiot.

Noah ignored his comment. "By the way, do you have a mana recovery potion?"

He asked for the important thing. He was hurt and tired, but he could handle that much pain. But his mana was half drained. Just a few more battles and his mana would be exhausted. It’s better to have a mana recovery potion just in case.

Unfortunately, Noah possessed nothing. If he knew something like this was going to happen, he would have already prepared in advance. But no, he had no idea about these things.

"Well, I do have some." Regnar pulled out two potion bottles. They were small and made up of transparent glass.

"Take this. One is a mana recovery potion while the other is a healing potion. Also, both of them are low grade, but useful anyway."

Noah raised his brow, surprised at his kindness. He didn’t question and took both of them.

"Thank you for this."

"No problem. You first came to help us." Regnar shook his head, saying there was no need to thank him.

Though Noah could tell that they didn’t need his help. Both of them looked strong enough to kill the monster.

What Noah did was just save their time from dragging the battle.

"Okay, let’s go!" Noah declared.

Both Regnar and Draven nodded. They moved straight on the road.

Noah saw on the left side of the road there lay another dead body of a student, while inside one broken shop a few figures lay dead. The staff who worked there.

Noah shook his head and tried to focus on the fight. Pushing his thoughts about death aside.

"Let’s help others kill those monsters first."

"Got it!" Regnar agreed.

"Yes! Fight!!" Draven screamed in excitement.

The trio moved towards other students.

"Shitt! They are strong!"

"When will the instructors come?"

A girl and a boy were fighting another monster.

Regnar increased his speed. He was more agile and faster than Noah and Draven.

He moved behind the monster, grabbing its thick tail with strong hands.

Just behind him was Noah running.

He used Bind spell to lock the monster’s front feet.

[Frost Bind]

Draven was slower than Noah because of his huge body, but he was physically stronger than both Noah and Regnar.

The giant man bent his knees and pushed himself up with all his might.

"Arrrhhhhh!"

He jumped higher than expected.

Noah was once again surprised. Draven directly landed on the monster’s back.

Thud!

Screeeechhhh!!!

The monster screamed and violently thrashed its body to throw him off.

Regnar from behind gritted his teeth to hold the tail tightly so the monster wouldn’t attack with it.

Noah took the chance and thrust his spear at the neck. The blade was covered with dense mana this time.

Splattered!

The tip dug inside as blood splattered.

From above, Draven balanced himself somehow and drew his battle axe back with full strength.

The monster screamed in pain. Noah’s spear moved more inside the side of the neck.

Slowly the monster started to slow down its movement. Then it fell on the ground with a thud.

"Hah... that was easier..." Noah muttered.

Draven jumped from the monster’s back beside Noah. Regnar also came beside him.

"We could be a great team," Regnar said while rubbing his chin. As the killing this monster took really less time.

The duo who were fighting the monster finally calmed down.

"Thanks for helping us," the young man said sincerely.

"Yes. Thanks for saving us. The monster was stronger for the two of us," the brown-haired girl said with a slightly afraid voice.

"No worries. You two just go and stay somewhere safe."

’Damn! I shouldn’t be feeling good after seeing that there are students weaker than me that exist.’ Noah tried to correct his thinking. Those two bowed and left the trio.

BOOM!

Just then a loud booming sound came from the backside of the huge building, nearly 40 meters away from them.

The trio looked in that direction.

"Hey guys... watch your surroundings more keenly... if you find some suspicious person, tell me..."

Both Draven and Regnar looked at him, then nodded.

"Let’s go there! A fight is going on!"

But Draven was still more focused on fighting.

Three of them started to run toward that building.

’Damien, please be there!’ Noah hoped that he could meet the protagonist soon.
