Extra: Yandere Milfs Obsessed with me!-Chapter 67: The Rift
The next morning, Kaiser set out toward the capital, accompanied by Ruby who, after a night of reflection, had finally agreed to follow him. The journey was expected to last three days. He was perfectly equipped, thanks to a high-rank storage ring that contained everything necessary: several tents, food rations for a month, spare weapons, a series of high-quality healing potions, and even a substantial reserve of gold coins.
"Are you sure this is the right path?" asked Ruby, adjusting the strap of her bag.
Kaiser consulted a worn map with frayed edges. "According to the notes, the rift entrance is located in the heart of the Forest. We should see it appear any moment now."
After a few more hours of galloping, they finally emerged into a strangely silent clearing, marking the entrance to their destination. Without hesitation, they entered under the forest canopy. The trees, of gigantic size, formed a vegetal dome so dense that it only allowed diffuse light to filter through, with sunlight piercing only in rare and thin beams.
"This forest... it’s not like the others," murmured Ruby, her gaze scanning the shifting shadows.
They galloped for nearly another hour before coming into view of the rift. It materialized as a vertical tear in the very fabric of the air, about ten meters high. A cold glow emanated from it, pulsing faintly. This was the Portal leading to the continent Tenebris.
Kaiser stopped abruptly, taking in the sight. "Tenebris," he said to himself.
Famous for its extreme danger. Only a few reckless adventurers or organizations with considerable power and resources dared approach its borders. As for those who returned, the majority had gone mad, and those who came back intact could be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Access was only possible through these unstable portals, scattered across the world, each opening onto a different and often inhospitable area of Tenebris. Accounts described a vast continent, at the center of which was the Abyss Hole, a chasm descending directly into the underground worlds, reputed to be the lair of the most fearsome creatures.
The ecosystem of Tenebris seemed designed to defy all known logic. Its creatures were classified according to a scale of rarity and power: Common, Rare, Super Rare, Epic, and Legendary, each category further subdivided into Lower, Middle, and Upper levels. A lower common monster could be handled by a trained human, while an upper common monster of the same category already represented a threat to an entire village. Monsters like wyverns classified as upper rare were seen as calamities, along with mountain trolls, titanic ogres, and far rarer entities that populated these lands.
The portals represented the only passage, but also a breach in the security of the kingdoms. When, by accident, a creature managed to cross one and escape, the event was immediately classified as a major catastrophe. The chaos of Tenebris must under no circumstances spill into the ordinary world. Kaiser knew these details by heart. He had spent a lot of time studying the available map fragments, compiling reports; the few reports concerning its geography were incomplete.
Approaching just a few meters from the vibrating rift, Kaiser felt a icy shiver run down his spine. A raw, unstable energy emanated from the portal. The air crackled with chaotic aura. He carefully observed the magical flow, dense and swirling, then took a deep breath to calm the rapid beating of his heart. He then dismounted.
He turned to his horse and gently stroked the animal’s neck. "This is where we part ways, my friend," he murmured while undoing the straps. "You can’t cross this portal with us." The horse let out a soft whinny, almost understanding, before turning around and trotting away into the shaded path. Ruby, beside him, also released her own mount. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Kaiser straightened up, staring at the bluish glow. He took a decisive step forward, his muscles tensing for the leap into the unknown. Suddenly, a high-pitched and piercing whistle cut through the heavy silence of the clearing.
*Feeew*
A fulminating pain exploded in his left arm. He looked down, stunned: an arrow entirely made of ice was embedded deeply, just below his shoulder. Almost instantly, thick frost spread from the impact point, immobilizing his limb in an icy vice. The suffering was atrocious, cutting off his breath.
"Ambush!" he managed to growl, his voice strangled, as his gaze frantically scanned the dark line of trees to spot the archer.
Before he could make a defensive move or draw his weapon, a second whistle sounded. In an instinctive surge, Ruby threw herself at him.
"KAISER!"
She hit him with all her weight, the force of the impact hurling him violently to the side. He lost his balance, feeling the ground give way beneath his feet. The world tilted, trees and sky forming nothing but a confused spiral, before the cold light of the portal swallowed him completely.
A spurt of blood splashed onto his own face. Kaiser was shaken seeing Ruby’s eyes, still wide open, turn glassy.
Above them, calmly seated on a high branch, a feminine silhouette watched them. The oscillating light of the rift danced on her features, revealing a disconcertingly cute appearance.
Her white hair, cascading to mid-back with tips of ink-black, gently undulated around her face despite the complete absence of wind. Her eyes, of such a light blue they seemed transparent, were framed by long white lashes. An adorable, almost innocent smile stretched her pink, full lips.
She wore a dark blue leather outfit, surprisingly form-fitting, enhanced with thick white fur at the collar and wrists. The light armor strictly hugged her forms: her generous chest and all her curves were perfectly visible. A longbow rested across her thighs, and her slender, pale fingers idly toyed with the weapon’s string.
"Fucking half-elf!" roared Kaiser, his voice completely shattered by rage and acute pain.
The last image imprinted in his mind, as reality dissolved, was a vision of horror. The second ice arrow, the one meant for him, had lodged right in the middle of Ruby’s forehead. No scream. Only the brutal silence of death, and the sticky sensation of blood on his skin.
Being too close, he couldn’t help but be sucked in by the rift... and thus ended up on the continent Tenebris without most of his equipment.
