Chapter 136: With you in my thoughts? I was way too distracted

After the encounter with Dyana, the rest of the journey went without incident. Kaiser crossed the academy corridors without paying attention to the looks he crossed. His mind was already elsewhere. When he finally reached his quarters, he closed the door behind him and let out a sigh.

He needed a bath.

Without wasting time, he got rid of his clothes and entered the bathroom. The hot water quickly relaxed his muscles still tense from the morning. He stayed still for a few minutes, eyes closed, letting his thoughts drift.

When he finally came out, a towel tied around his waist, his hair still damp, a noise made him stop.

*Knock knock knock*

Someone was knocking at the door.

Kaiser raised an eyebrow.

’But who could that be?’ he thought. ’Isabella? Why would she come here...’

He walked to the door and opened it.

To his great disappointment, it was not Isabella.

In front of him stood a young girl he did not know. She had brown hair neatly tied back and black eyes that seemed unsure where to land. Upon seeing Kaiser shirtless, she froze, almost choking.

"L-Lord Kaiser..." she stammered. "I... I’m here on behalf of Lady Ariana..."

Hearing that name, Kaiser slightly raised an eyebrow. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

The young girl immediately pulled herself together, speaking faster.

"She sent me to give you this."

She held out an envelope with a slightly trembling hand. Kaiser took it without rushing. As soon as he touched it, he immediately recognized the delicate perfume still clinging to it.

’Is she flirting with me or what?’ he thought while observing the envelope.

He opened it and pulled out several neatly folded sheets. A list of manors. He quickly scanned the lines, noting the locations, dimensions, particularities. A smile gradually formed on his face.

’She’s fast...’ he thought.

Each manor seemed exceptional. No mediocre choice. Ariana had clearly made a first selection, keeping only the best.

Kaiser looked up at the young girl, who was still standing straight at the entrance, visibly uncomfortable.

"I suppose I have to choose one," he said calmly. "It’s going to take me a little time, so you can go back."

At those words, she immediately shook her head.

"N-no! I prefer to stay here."

Kaiser blinked, surprised.

"Stay?"

She did not know what kind of relationship Kaiser had with Ariana. And honestly, she was not curious; she had understood one essential point: for her own survival, there were things better left unknown. Anyway, she had heard certain rumors and therefore preferred to avoid any misunderstanding.

Kaiser observed her tense face, her worried gaze.

’Look at that...’ he thought.

"If you want to stay here, no problem," he replied with a slight smile. "But I think the people passing in the corridor will surely wonder what a girl is doing lurking in front of my door."

She paled slightly.

He added, amused.

"And I doubt that will play in your favor."

She immediately understood and lowered her shoulders.

"I... okay."

Kaiser stepped aside and motioned for her to enter. She passed timidly, and he closed the door behind her.

"Sit here," he said, pointing to an armchair. "I still need to look through all this."

He went to sit on the sofa opposite, the sheets spread out in front of him. The young girl remained perfectly straight, hands on her knees, visibly trying not to look at his bare torso.

Each manor was detailed with care. Surface area, security, discretion, access and included services. Ariana had left nothing to chance. He now had to make a choice.

After a few seconds of silence, the young girl seemed to remember something.

"...Uh," she said hesitantly. "Lady Ariana told you to look at the third one."

Kaiser immediately raised his head.

"The third?"

He went back up the list. The manor in question was quite isolated, far from overly frequented areas. It had several pools, a vast grounds, but above all a strategic location that immediately caught his attention.

Without hesitation, he nodded.

"Then the third it is."

He handed her back the sheets.

The young girl seemed relieved.

Without waiting, Kaiser accompanied her to the door. She bowed quickly before leaving.

Once alone, Kaiser glanced at the time. The next class was approaching fast. He prepared quickly, got dressed and left his quarters.

When he opened the classroom door, several students were already seated. The professor, however, was not yet there.

’Not bad,’ Kaiser thought. ’At least I’m not late.’

He sighed and headed, hands in his pockets, toward his usual seat.

A few minutes later, the door slid open, immediately drawing the attention of the entire room. Kaiser turned mechanically.

What he saw surprised him.

A silhouette crossed the threshold, wrapped in a midnight blue dress so thin and so fitted that it seemed painted directly on her skin. The fabric, a velvet, hugged every curve with obscene precision, emphasizing the strangled waist before flaring into full and insolent hips.

When she took her first step into the room, the discreet click of her high heels resonated like a low note. Her long, shapely legs appeared through the endless side slit of the dress: gleaming ebony thigh. Each step made the fabric undulate against her skin, intermittently revealing the beginning of a round and firm buttock, marked with a black tattoo that seemed to pulse gently under the dim light.

She stopped for a moment, letting the door close behind her with a sigh. That simple hip movement was enough to make her hips roll in a natural sway.

When she slowly raised her head, her short-cut blond hair framed a face of elegant beauty: high cheekbones, lips painted in a deep black-red, slightly parted as if holding back too heavy a breath. Her heterochromatic eyes, one black and the other golden behind a swept strand, scanned the room with deliberate slowness.

When she lifted her eyes, her gaze met Kaiser’s. She showed no particular reaction, simply sweeping the room before heading toward the desk.

With each step, the plunging neckline of the dress opened further. The fabric, held by thin golden chains running over her clavicle, allowed a glimpse of the very very deep and glistening valley between her heavy breasts.

She stopped in front of the desk, placed a hand gloved in black lace on the wood. The gesture slightly lifted the long sleeve, revealing her slender forearm but adorned with patterns that climbed up to the shoulder, disappearing under the fabric.

"Good morning everyone," she said with her usual tone full of arrogance.

"I will be your professor for the theory on sorcery... and demonic magic."

Kaiser remained silent.

’Now that’s a surprise,’ he told himself.

’I wasn’t expecting that... Eleanor is actually a professor at the academy.’

...

The class lasted about an hour and a half. Eleanor started with the basics, explaining what a spell was, its fundamental principles, the differences between classical magic and demonic magic. For many students, the subject was new, which led to numerous questions and exchanges.

Kaiser, for his part, listened attentively.

At the end of the class, as the students began to leave the room, he already knew what he had to do. It had been a long time since he had had any news from Black Neon.

But he could not meet her just anywhere.

He thought quickly, then approached Eleanor, feigning a hesitant air.

"Professor," he said, "I would need help on certain points."

She looked at him for a few seconds before replying.

"Very well. Meet me at the library. It’s the quietest place for studying."

Kaiser nodded.

[...]

In the library...

"It’s been quite a while," Kaiser said, leaning against the back of his chair. Eleanor, a book in hand, was not sitting in front of him but rather behind him.

"Indeed, during your absence many things have evolved," she said in her monotone arrogant voice.

"From the way you talk, one would think your precious boss didn’t miss you?" Kaiser teased.

"Miss? I’m afraid that’s not the appropriate word," she finally said, a hint of amusement in her voice.

It was true that it had been quite a while since she had heard Kaiser’s voice shamelessly flirting with her.

"You left me with all the work. I was wondering where you’d been all this time."

"Well, let’s say I was training..."

She nodded: "So, is it going well?"

Kaiser sighed: "Not as much as I would have liked. With you in my thoughts?... I was way too distracted."

Eleanor let out a soft laugh. Kaiser knew that trusting a dark elf was dangerous due to their innate perfidious nature, but with Eleanor, there really wasn’t much thought to it.

’Maybe because she’s a beautiful and dangerous woman. I have a weakness for them.’ He thought.

"I’m undoubtedly beautiful and intelligent, but how can you flirt with another woman when the taste of Isabella Donoghan’s lips is still in your mouth?"

Kaiser raised an eyebrow: "Are you spying on me, spider queen?"

"Not really, just that my disciple Ragnar keeps an eye on you from time to time."

"Hmmm... Why do I feel a hint of jealousy in the air?"

"Who’s jealous? You’re dreaming." Eleanor snorted, crossing her arms.

"Then I must have been mistaken, otherwise why not remove the taste of Isabella’s lips?"

Eleanor turned her head to the side, confused: "What are you talking about?"

"With yours."

"Hmph, you really have no shame, your old flirting methods won’t work." She murmured while eyeing Kaiser’s enigmatic smile.

After a few more exchanges, Kaiser decided to get down to business. "So tell me, how are things at Black Neon?"

Taking a short breath, Eleanor began her report.

"We’ve had several missions in the meantime..." she started, only mentioning the most relevant ones.

Kaiser simply nodded, listening to the exploits of his subordinates. "Not bad, I can see that management was handled well in my absence," he added.

"Of course, and for the beasts, most are on missions in their tribes, some have even managed to become pillars of theirs, like Sakura..."

"And Kara? What’s she doing here then?" Kaiser asked.

Eleanor let out a sigh. "Originally, she was supposed to go back too, but her curiosity when she learned that her savior might be at the academy took over..."

Knowing Kara’s impulsive and stubborn character, it wasn’t so surprising in the end.

’And when she’s with me, she acts all disinterested? This tsundere needs a good correction.’ He thought.

"... Is there nothing else interesting?"

"Ah yes, Gunar has taken on a disciple..." Eleanor added.

"Interesting, I wonder what made him change his mind..." Kaiser said, stroking his invisible beard. "And who is it?"

"It’s a girl, her name is Leandra, she’s also a half-beast and part of the beasts..."

Upon hearing that, Kaiser was not at the end of his surprises. ’Well, I suppose if Gunar took her under his wing, it’s because she’s worth it.’

"... she’s a B-rank warrior, specialized in raw power and endurance... sometimes lacks subtlety, but compensates with battlefield intuition and an innate tactical sense in combat..."

Discovering the details, Kaiser already wanted to meet her; it seemed there were new useful assets. Eleanor continued for about a good thirty minutes, giving a detailed report of everything that had happened and on the beasts.
