Even After My Death-Chapter 100 - 86: The Supplies Have Been Washed Away
Chapter 100: Chapter 86: The Supplies Have Been Washed Away
Last night it rained, and the air on the island was exceptionally fresh, Nong Chun couldn’t help but take a deep breath, vaguely feeling the cool sensation being drawn from his nostrils all the way down into his lungs.
Having lived in big cities for years, he hadn’t smelled such fresh air in a long time!
Unable to resist, Nong Chun looked towards the direction where the yacht had gone down yesterday, "I wonder if the crew has come to pick us up."
Jiang Ning, holding her toiletries, shook her head, "They probably haven’t. We didn’t walk far from there, if the crew had come, a honk from a horn would have been enough for us to hear."
"That’s true," Nong Chun agreed.
Jiang Ning stepped aside, and last night, while tidying up the tent, an idea suddenly struck her. The reason why she was trapped overnight on this desolate island was that the crew didn’t show up today, but what if they didn’t appear tomorrow like they didn’t today?
Life is full of difficulties; you can never place your hopes on others.
So, last night, before it started to rain, Jiang Ning took out the metal water bottle and thermos from her backpack, unscrewed the lids, and set them outside the tent with some rocks to catch the rain.
This method proved to be excellent, and now, as Jiang Ning looked, she found the water bottle and thermos were full.
She still had half of the bottled water that Nong Chun had given her yesterday left, so she wasn’t short of water for now.
Although the collected rainwater couldn’t be drunk directly, it could be used for brushing teeth and washing the face.
Jiang Ning squatted down and quickly took care of her washing up with the collected rainwater.
Seeing her washing up, Nong Chun quickly came over to check his little pot.
After seeing Jiang Ning do this yesterday, although Nong Chun didn’t have a thermos, he did have a titanium pot. He imitated her and set out the pot to catch the rain, which now was full as well.
After washing up, the two climbed to the top of a boulder not far away to look out at the ocean, and just as Jiang Ning had expected, there was still no sign of the crew’s yacht.
Nong Chun sighed, unable to hide his disappointment, "An afternoon and an entire night have passed, why hasn’t the crew come yet? What do we do now?"
Jiang Ning turned around and walked away, "Let’s go have breakfast."
Nong Chun: (⊙o⊙)...???
Last night, neither of them had eaten much, and after a night of digestion, there was hardly anything left. He had woken up this morning from hunger!
Nong Chun quickly followed her.
Jiang Ning carried the Survival Knife on her, and in her hand, she held a bag.
Standing on the rock earlier, she wasn’t just looking for the crew, she was also trying to gauge the surrounding sea conditions.
Jiang Ning headed in a different direction with her gear, and Nong Chun closely followed her, both quickly reaching a new part of the ocean.
After the heavy rain stopped and the tide receded, a lot of seafood that the waves had washed ashore last night remained on the beach. Although most of it had been taken away by birds nearby, there was still a small amount left for the two to scavenge.
[Wow wow wow! There are so many crabs and shrimps on the beach!]
[Ahhh, I see conches!]
[The scenery is also so beautiful, it feels fresh even through the screen. If I lived in a place like this, I’d be in a good mood every day.]
[Nong Chun really looks like Jiang Ning’s little follower, timidly picking up what’s left behind. So meek and clueless.]
[Is this what sea foraging is? It looks like fun.]
[I’m impressed, Miaomiao and the others got drenched in the forest for most of the night, their tents and supplies were washed away by the sea, and instead of worrying about them when these two woke up, they actually went to the beach to find food? How can they be so calm and collected?]
[Huh?? What the hell?]
[Huo Miao’s fans? If you don’t go to Huo Miao’s live broadcast room, what are you barking here for? Get lost!]
[I was just watching the live broadcast to pass the time, and some celebrity fans have to make everything so toxic, truly they are like walking tumors.]
[Hahaha, went to the neighboring broadcast room for a bit and died laughing. Those celebrities, oh my god, all turned into drenched chickens. They hid from the rain in the forest last night, and now they barely made it out only to find many tents and a lot of supplies had been washed away, so tragic.]
For nearly half an hour, Jiang Ning and Nong Chun picked a bag full of various fish, shrimps, crabs, a few octopuses, and some shellfish.
With their bountiful harvest, Nong Chun was somewhat elated, "In addition to that titanium pot from this morning, I also have a small stove with fuel and a titanium spoon in my backpack; we can use them to cook later!"
Jiang Ning heard this and deliberately turned her head to take another look at him.
When packing yesterday, Jiang Ning had seen the titanium cookware set but had not packed it due to insufficient space in her backpack. She hadn’t expected that she would end up using the set after all.
The two of them finished cleaning the seafood by the seashore, then walked back together.
Once back, Nong Chun couldn’t wait to take the small stove out from his backpack.
He had two bottles of mineral water in his backpack. Nong Chun shared one bottle for cooking the seafood.
While Nong Chun was busy, Jiang Ning, holding her Survival Knife, went to the area where she had brushed her teeth in the morning and started digging. She was strong, and armed with the Survival Knife, she quickly unearthed the plant’s rhizome.
Jiang Ning cleaned the rhizomes with rainwater from her thermos, then walked back.
Nong Chun had already put the seafood in the pot, ready to cook. Looking at a pot full of seafood, he couldn’t help saying, "If only we had some ginger, I only have salt and chili powder in my backpack."
"Move." Jiang Ning handed over the rhizomes she held.
"What’s this?" Nong Chun curiously took it, "Ginger? Doesn’t seem like it..."
Nong Chun knew how to cook; he knew what ginger looked like. The ginger that Jiang Ning passed to him looked somewhat like ginger but was round and plump, unlike the ginger he usually used for cooking.
"This is wild ginger, just dug up from behind the tent." Jiang Ning nodded slightly, "It’s edible, has a spicy taste, similar to ginger’s flavor."
"You sure know a lot." Nong Chun’s eyes brightened and he immediately cut it up and tossed it into the pot.
Although the pot of seafood only had wild ginger and salt, when the lid was lifted, Nong Chun was still enticed by the aroma released by the fresh seafood.
Extraordinarily fresh!
Nong Chun turned down the heat a bit, then pulled out a naan bread from his backpack.
This naan was forcefully packed into his suitcase by his grandma when he was leaving home. Later, when the director said to switch to backpacks, Nong Chun took it along as well.
Thanks to Grandma!
Nong Chun tore the naan into palm-sized pieces, then placed them on top of the hot, steaming seafood.
Due to the rudimentary conditions, without a steamer, Nong Chun had poured half a bottle of mineral water directly into the pot while cooking the seafood. Now that the seafood was cooked, he could use this steam to warm the naan.
[Wow wow wow! Warming naan on seafood, that’s so like you!]
[Haha, suddenly I feel like eating naan, his looks really authentic]
[I noticed him sneaking this bag of naan into his backpack yesterday, and have been watching the live stream specifically to see when he would eat it. It reminds me of my college days when I’d leave home, and my mom would always pack a big bag of it in my suitcase ahead of time.]
[So this is naan, huh? Looks delicious!]
After the naan softened, Nong Chun called over Jiang Ning to eat breakfast.
They enjoyed their meal, alternating between bites of naan and seafood.
While eating, neither Jiang Ning nor Nong Chun spoke, allowing the audience in front of the screen to also immerse themselves in the act of eating.
[Ahhh, damn it, I’m watching the live stream in bed, and it’s making me hungry]
[I really want some naan! I really want some seafood!!!]
[Wuuu, I want to eat too. Poor kid didn’t have dinner last night and is starving now watching this]
[Haha, am I the only one who had breakfast?]
[Shocker!! Couldn’t resist peeking into the next live stream room and found out the other guests are coming!]
[What?]
[Hmm... took a look, and they are indeed coming.]
[They’re coming just as we’re about to finish eating. Haha, too bad they didn’t come earlier, they could have snagged some breakfast.]
