Eternal Love: The Billionaire's Relentless Pursuit-Chapter 705 - 698: The Last Stand (Part 2)
It wasn’t until Wu Chengzu left that Bai Yiran finally relaxed. Her body, tense for so long, suddenly went limp and weak.
She tried to slowly roll up her pants, but despite her gentle movements, it was unavoidable that the pants rubbed against her knees.
"Hiss~" She sharply inhaled, deciding to endure the pain and quickly rolled up her pants. Although it hurt, it was just a momentary pain, better than doing it slowly.
Both of her knees were injured to varying degrees, with the left knee being the most severely hurt. If her pants weren’t such a dark color, Wu Chengzu would have likely noticed that they were already stained with fresh blood.
Bai Yiran struggled to get out of bed. Wu Chengzu hadn’t taken away the bandages and other medical supplies. After wrapping her wounds herself, her forehead was already dotted with fine sweat.
Bai Yiran had clearly heard what Wu Chengzu said earlier. They had indeed arranged for a ship and would depart tomorrow night.
That meant tonight was her last chance, even though her previous actions had already angered Wu Chengzu. But at this point, Bai Yiran couldn’t worry about that anymore.
When she was on the mountain, she was very certain that the girl had seen her and heard her cries for help.
But now that there was still no movement from the police, Bai Yiran began to doubt whether that girl had reported it. Maybe she got scared and didn’t dare to call the police, which was entirely possible.
Bai Yiran realized she couldn’t rely on the police to save her. At this point, she had to rescue herself.
Wu Chengzu hadn’t come looking for Bai Yiran since then, and during dinner, it was Jia who delivered the meal to her. Bai Yiran maintained the same expression and attitude as usual, and to Jia, she didn’t seem any different.
As soon as the food was served, Bai Yiran started eating, and she ate with great appetite.
Jia stared at Bai Yiran in a daze. Of all the women he’d seen, she seemed to enjoy her food the most. Watching her eat always made him want to have another meal, even if he was already full.
Bai Yiran noticed Jia staring at her, occasionally smacking his lips, and asked, "Didn’t you eat? Want to sit down and join me?"
Jia quickly shook his head. If Brother Zu saw him eating with Bai Yiran, he would skin him alive.
After watching Bai Yiran finish her meal, Jia took away the dishes.
"Thanks," Bai Yiran softly said.
Jia was taken aback. This was the first time in a long time that Bai Yiran had spoken kindly to him, let alone thank him. "No... no need..."
With that, Jia quickly left Bai Yiran’s room with the dishes.
The moment the door closed, Bai Yiran’s gaze became calm. Next, she just had to wait quietly.
Meanwhile, at Xiao Qiao’s house, a scene of chaos was unfolding.
Mrs. Qiao had returned when Xiao Qiao and Leng Yichen went up the mountain to look for someone. As soon as she entered the village, she noticed some villagers pointing at her, whispering together and glancing her way.
Mrs. Qiao didn’t know what had happened, but being gossiped about by the villagers was certainly uncomfortable. She was a widow, relying on each other with her daughter. People always say widows attract trouble, especially someone like her who often works in town. The villagers already didn’t have a favorable opinion of her, occasionally gossiping about her keeping men on the side. Now they were blatantly pointing at her.
Mrs. Qiao held back her anger and went home. A neighbor rushed over to her, "Did you know? Your daughter brought two men home to stay and they’ve been there for several nights!"
Upon hearing this, a surge of anger shot to Mrs. Qiao’s head, nearly causing her to spit blood on the spot.
