Eternal Life: Talent Grows with Age-Chapter 286 - 183: Obtaining the Barrier-Breaking Pill
Lu Chang’sheng instantly felt his heart skip a beat, and made a mental note of the matter.
"Why would those demonic creatures disguise themselves in such crowded places? Isn’t that asking to be exposed?"
Before Liu Yun could speak, Wei Zhen cut in, "There must be a reason. Normally, demon beasts wouldn’t just waltz into a human Immortal City. If they do, there’s got to be something behind it."
Liu Yun nodded in agreement, saying, "Those that can disguise themselves usually wouldn’t lay a hand on small fries like us. They don’t want to alert the big fish unless they’re forced to. So, everyone can relax."
The Immortal City is so vast, with so many cultivators—you’d have to be unlucky as hell to bump into one yourself.
The real ones who should worry are the hardcore Foundation Establishment cultivators. They’re way more likely to be targets for those demon beasts than us regular folks.
"Also, there’s something else you should be mindful of. Word is, a few evil cultivators have been spotted in Liuyun Immortal City lately. And among them is the infamous Red Cloud Daoist—that guy’s an absolute nightmare."
"Trouble’s just piling up, huh."
Lu Chang’sheng was already debating whether he should just turn right back now.
Demon beasts, evil cultivators—just hearing about it was enough to make his skin crawl.
"Who knows, maybe all this demon business is tangled up with the two of them." Wei Zhen remarked.
Rumor has it, Red Cloud Daoist has a head of wild red hair and a face only his mother could hate. Despite being only at the ninth stage of Qi Cultivation, his skills are no joke—he once escaped from a Foundation Establishment master, earning himself quite a reputation.
But Wei Zhen wasn’t all that anxious, since they weren’t the only ones here this time. Also coming along were Qu Family Ancestor Qu Guang and Fang Family Ancestor Fang Yuan.
Both men were eighth-level Qi Cultivators. Especially Fang Yuan—known as the strongest fighter under Foundation Establishment. Solid backup.
"Didn’t expect you to be on such good terms with all those families, Fellow Daoist Lu. Even late-stage old ancestors treat you with respect."
Wei Zhen couldn’t help but marvel internally.
Even though Qu Guang and Fang Yuan both claimed they were just here for the same auction, it was obvious from the way they never left Lu Chang’sheng’s side that they were here for him.
Meanwhile, Liu Yun just smiled off to the side, looking like nothing surprised him at all.
He’d actually noticed Lu Chang’sheng years ago. Even though Chang’sheng was in disguise back then, the people from the big clans around him weren’t. All it took was a little digging into their backgrounds, and he’d already traced everything back to Lu Chang’sheng.
Back then, Chang’sheng just showed a bit of potential—enough to catch his eye. Now, that potential was fully realized, and having old ancestors from late-stage Qi Cultivation acting as protection made total sense.
The handful of retainers behind Liu Yun worshipped his foresight like he was a god or something.
······
Several days later, the group disembarked and settled in at Liuyun Immortal City. After waiting for over half a month, the auction finally opened as scheduled.
Lu Chang’sheng freshened up, then walked over from his courtyard to the one across the hall. He knocked for a while, but there was no answer from inside.
Wei Zhen was clearly out.
He waited a bit, about to leave, when suddenly he saw Wei Zhen hurrying in from outside—still with a faint, lipstick-stained mark on his cheek that he hadn’t even bothered to wipe off.
Lu Chang’sheng’s eyes lingered for a moment, and Wei Zhen instantly realized, so he awkwardly swiped at his face. "A couple new girls started over there. None of them really know how to hold back."
Hearing his feeble excuse, Lu Chang’sheng didn’t bother to say anything else.
The two of them took their invitations and headed to the auction venue.
The entrance was completely ordinary, looking just like any other courtyard. But once they stepped inside, the difference was obvious.
On both sides were rows of young women in palace attire, each holding exotic flowers that gave off a faint, pleasant fragrance.
They followed the corridor all the way to a seven-story pavilion.
The whole pavilion shimmered faintly with light—a sure sign there were spirit arrays set up.
After handing their invitations to the guide, they were allowed inside.
The place was already filling up—cultivators either chatting in groups or quietly sitting in their seats.
Despite looking tight from the outside, the inside was grand as a palace—plenty of seats in the main hall, and private boxes scattered across the tall platforms in all directions.
"The Wang Family really knows how to live it up. Even their servant girls are young, beautiful cultivator women."
Wei Zhen’s gaze drifted over the women poised around the room.
Thinking of the side chick he’d shelled out dozens of low-grade spirit stones for last night, he suddenly felt like she wasn’t much to brag about after all.
The brothel girls looked decent enough, but compared to the Wang Family’s staff, their aura was nothing. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Lu Chang’sheng didn’t comment, just scanning the room.
Soon after, something flashed in his eyes—over in the distance, a few familiar faces stood out.
It was actually Patriarch Zhu Zhen of the Zhu Family, along with a few of the Zhu clan members.
"What is it, Xiao Zhen?"
Nearby, an elder who bore a strong resemblance to Zhu Zhen noticed his odd look and asked.
This was Elder Zhu Ren, the Zhu clan’s old patriarch, ninth-stage Qi Cultivation master.
"That guy over there. The one named Lu."
Zhu Ren followed his gaze and saw Lu Chang’sheng looking their way. He nodded as a greeting, but as soon as he turned away, he muttered coldly, "Definitely got a wolf’s heart and a dog’s lungs, that one."
A few of the clan elders behind him nodded in agreement.
They felt the Zhu Family had already been plenty tolerant with Lu Chang’sheng, but unfortunately, instead of appreciating it, he’d thrown his lot in against them.
Of course, there were other opinions too.
One elder chimed in, "I think we’d be better off not making an enemy of him. Now’s not the time to pick new fights."
