Eternal Life: Talent Grows with Age-Chapter 165 - 125: Immortal Meng Trades Spells for Goods?
Lu Family Manor.
Lu Chang’sheng refined a Beauty Pill and swallowed it.
Previously, when he had the Martial Artist Council gather herbs, he hadn’t limited it to Longevity Pills alone—the Beauty Pill and several rare medicinal ingredients were collected as well.
Now, after spending more than a month, he had used up all the Beauty Pill ingredients at hand, and harvested thirty pills in total.
"Making Beauty Pills is much easier than making Longevity Pills."
There were only nine sets of Beauty Pill ingredients, and under Lu Chang’sheng’s hand, almost none were wasted.
The Beauty Pill could nourish the blood and qi, preserve one’s appearance—after swallowing a few, Lu Chang’sheng looked even younger overall.
In the past, although his martial training set him apart, making him look younger than most, he still had the appearance of an ordinary man in his thirties.
Now, he figured he looked a few years younger—just past thirty at most.
"With this face, if someone saw me, I’d really get stuck with the nickname ’Living Immortal.’"
Previously, people around Lu Family Manor had even called him a living immortal, and some had gone so far as to erect a ’Chang’sheng Monument’ in their homes, which left Lu Chang’sheng both amused and helpless.
"Alchemy and martial arts have both hit bottlenecks—without further accumulation of methods and skills, it’s hard to continue improving."
The royal study did have plenty of books related to martial arts and alchemy, but sadly, those Innate Martial Artists of the royal household were a bit hostile toward him, so they hadn’t let him look at anything inside the royal library.
He didn’t want to fall out too badly with them, so he simply let it go.
Leaving the alchemy room, Lu Chang’sheng saw his teacher, Hong Yuan, as well as Daoist Ruyi, Guan Hongxiu, and a few others.
When they saw him, their faces were full of expectation.
"Did it work out?"
"Yeah, three pills this time—got lucky."
Lu Chang’sheng said with a grin.
Just as he’d guessed, veterans like Hong Yuan, Daoist Ruyi, and the other True Qi Realm martial artists had good connections—over the past while, they’d managed to get their hands on five sets of Mountain God herb, along with a few supporting ingredients needed for the Longevity Pill.
Then they came to Lu Chang’sheng to have pills refined.
"It really succeeded?" Guan Hongxiu’s eyes widened with age-old hope.
He’d heard from Hong Yuan that Lu Chang’sheng could make Longevity Pills; when he first heard, it had scared the life out of him.
To be fair, Hong Yuan had checked with Lu Chang’sheng before telling anyone—knowing Hong Yuan, he wouldn’t have said anything otherwise.
Lu Chang’sheng handed over a jade bottle to Hong Yuan.
Guan Hongxiu stared eagerly, "Old Hong, mind if I take a look?"
Hong Yuan glanced at Daoist Ruyi, got a nod of approval, then passed the bottle to Guan Hongxiu.
Guan Hongxiu’s wrinkled hands trembled as he opened it, and those somewhat clouded eyes grew clear and bright.
"Freshly refined, no doubt! The pill’s scent and heat—"
He nearly burst into tears.
"Chang’sheng, if you need specific ingredients, could you also help me make a few?"
In the end, Guan Hongxiu reluctantly handed the jade bottle back to Hong Yuan, then turned to Lu Chang’sheng.
"Of course. But if you want a sure thing, it’s best to prepare at least six sets of materials."
Lu Chang’sheng didn’t mind helping out—his alchemy was still a little raw, so making more pills would help polish his technique and gain experience.
"Alright, alright, I’ll have that rascal get right on it."
Guan Hongxiu nodded like a pecking chicken, then turned and glared at the somewhat distracted Yu Hai.
"Yu, you gotta show some self-restraint."
Lu Chang’sheng saw Yu Hai’s sunken eyes and high cheekbones, and felt a pang of melancholy.
Maybe his vitality was weak, or maybe it was something else—but ever since Yu Hai brought back two women from Black Mountain Prefecture’s city, neither one had gotten pregnant.
Yu Hai wasn’t the impatient sort, but his father Guan Hongxiu’s nagging had gotten so relentless that Yu Hai had been pushed into trying for an heir however he could.
Yu Hai tended to joke around and showed little respect to his old man, but deep down, he was remarkably filial.
So he just cursed under his breath and kept at it night and day.
Worried the first two women couldn’t take it anymore, he’d made another trip to the city and brought back four or five more—officially as concubines.
These days, he barely practiced alchemy—just lounged around with women all day.
He’d even wondered if something was wrong with his body, so he’d come to Lu Chang’sheng for a check up, but Lu Chang’sheng couldn’t find a thing wrong.
"You’re perfectly healthy. Your kidney essence is abundant. Why there’s no pregnancy—I have no idea."
That was all Lu Chang’sheng could say. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Yu Hai could only chalk it up to rotten luck, figuring if he just worked hard enough, he’d eventually hit the mark.
At this rate, he’d grown much thinner.
"No big deal. As an alchemy doctor, I know my own body well enough," Yu Hai grinned.
Seeing that, Lu Chang’sheng couldn’t nag him—he could only silently wish for Yu Hai to have a son soon, and plenty of descendants in the future.
Hong Yuan and Daoist Ruyi exchanged wry smiles, then turned to leave.
Not long after, word came that Hong Yuan had sent over a Longevity Pill.
They also passed along a message: Alchemy isn’t easy—just accept this pill.
Lu Chang’sheng could guess Hong Yuan’s thoughts. Last time’s Longevity Pill was already a priceless gift in Hong Yuan’s mind, settling the old debt for guidance along the Martial Dao; so this time, he couldn’t let Hong Yuan feel shortchanged.
"That teacher of mine—" Lu Chang’sheng shook his head, half-smiling in helplessness.
He could only accept it for now, just in case.
He was just about to return to the alchemy room when he caught sight of Lu Chang’an coming over.
"Father, the Martial Artist Council’s people are here for you." After quitting his official status, Lu Chang’an had stayed home to manage family affairs.
Martial Artist Council?
Lu Chang’sheng frowned. "Tell them no. I don’t have much to do with them these days."
"They also brought two Mountain God herbs."
