Eternal Freedom's Ascension-Chapter 109: Bizarre Vision
As soon as the statue broke into pieces, Kaiser felt his vision go blank. The only thing he heard was the system’s whisper.
[You have made an achievement]
[Behold the history of the Worship Island]
The blinding lights cleared, and he could finally see. The sight before him stunned him greatly. He blinked in disbelief, looking around in awe.
It was still the same island, but it looked vastly different. Even the restored state looked nothing like the view before him.
Tall pillars rose to the sky, golden runes glowing on them. Colorful decorations connected the pillars, acting as ornaments that beautified the island.
People dressed in fine linen robes moved about with pleasant smiles on their faces
’So this is how it was...?’
His gaze shifted to a mother feeding her child grapes. All he could sense was love and unity.
’Amazing...’
He even spotted a few people possessing their own color, making his eyes sparkle. Just as he stepped forward to approach them, he froze.
He felt a prickling sensation on his neck, and his eyes widened in realization.
’The angel!’
He turned around, ready to summon his weapons. He laid his eyes on the angel, becoming more astounded.
It was actually a statue, and not a living thing. At least, he thought so.
"You are not from this moment, are you?"
The angel moved, unfolding its wings and speaking to him.
Kaiser was a bit more concerned that it spoke without a mouth, more than the fact that the people around him did not react to its movements.
"It’d be better if you referred to me as ’he’." The angel spoke, calmly folding its arms. It was as if it... no, he had cleanly read his thoughts.
Kaiser felt a sense of perception wash over him, then he heard the angel ask.
"For you to be here... I presume that this region fell to doom in the end?"
Kaiser shook his head, "Honestly, I don’t know. I only know everyone here was turned into stone statues. The island itself was destroyed, only able to be restored at night."
He didn’t sense any hostility from the angel, so he found no reason not to answer.
"I see." The angel nodded, "Well, how did you get here? I don’t think the Nirad System would randomly send someone into an illusion of the past."
Kaiser fell silent, his mind working rapidly. He couldn’t directly say he had killed the angel, neither could he find another reasonable explanation. So, he simply abstained from answering.
"You’re quite interesting."
He sensed a bit of joy in the voice as the angel spoke. Tilting his head, he asked curiously.
"What exactly is this place?"
He had been curious since seeing the statues on the first day. According to the Emberheart Clan records, the island was dedicated to worshiping a single god.
However, after the week of repeated simulation, this hypothesis had reduced in credibility. He started believing that the human statues simply worshipped the angels.
Now, his own hypothesis had begun losing credibility. After all, he couldn’t see anyone worshiping the angel statue.
"This place?" The angel echoed, "This is actually a tomb."
’Eh?’ Kaiser blinked, his mouth opening slightly.
The angel seemed to expect his surprise. He unfolded his arms, then softly flapped his wings.
Divine light radiated from his figure.
"This is a tomb to contain the everlasting vessel of Primordial Corruption."
’Primordial Corruption?’ Kaiser thought, remembering the name he heard from the Darkness Altar. He suddenly turned around, sensing the environment darken.
The humans who were moving about peacefully now looked transparent. Within them, a torrent of vile, repulsive, writhing mass squirmed. It looked like black water was flowing within their human vessels.
Kaiser’s eyes widened subtly. "They have all been corrupted...?"
The angel nodded his head, his wings lowering sadly.
"Only the five angels guarding this island are able to stop the corruption from spreading. It looks like we were corrupted in the end."
Kaiser didn’t agree. "Corrupted? No. I’d say you were compromised."
The angel turned to look at him, giving a feeling he was smiling.
"Compromised? It doesn’t actually matter. We were doomed to fail."
Kaiser nodded. Keeping something as conceptual as Primordial Corruption restrained could only be temporary.
"It must have been tiring..." He sighed, "I now understand why you have no color."
His vision went blank again, and he was freed from the vision of the past. When he opened his eyes, he was still kneeling on the broken figure of the six-winged angel.
Anna was still in the distance, lying in a pool of her own blood. Alex was beside her, crying and trying to wake her up.
As clarity returned to him, Kaiser rose up. He felt his body ache in excruciating pain, exhaustion, and lack of essence. Though, he could already feel his essence being recovered at a fast rate.
He looked into the distance, seeing the gently swaying vine. Then he looked back at Anna’s battered figure.
’Goodness gracious... what a hassle.’
Before long, they were traversing the length of the large vine. Kaiser crawled forward with Anna’s figure attached to his back. The young woman had gone unconscious, bleeding severely from her wounds.
Perhaps because their current situation was dire, he had no time to explore the sensation of carrying a voluptuous woman on his back. Alex followed closely behind them, still armed with her bow. She was responsible for fending off any attack while they crossed the vine.
Although she had initially wanted to vent some frustration on Kaiser, a simple knock on the head made her fall silent. Thereafter, she watched as Kaiser tied her sister to himself and began crossing the vine bridge.
’At least he didn’t abandon us.’ She thought weakly. ’If he did, I’ll simply use the influence of our clan to find him and torture him.’
The mentality of a Legacy Awakened still lingered within her, making her arrogant in some obvious aspects.
Surprisingly, the journey was quite safe. They rarely encountered any creature. And those they encountered merely flew by, completely ignoring them.
By the time they reached the Third Isle, light had already graced the surface of the Aether Skies.
