Era of the transmigrating earth-Chapter 2159: The Interrupted Debate
As usual, today was business as usual; all the city lords were busy using their communication devices, directly connecting with others and continuing their discussions. Generally speaking, when there’s nothing much happening, there’s little exchange between everyone.
Today they suddenly realized that such communication seemed quite interesting. When someone makes a breakthrough or acquires something good, it’s an opportunity to show off. It’s known that boasting in front of ordinary people is completely different from boasting in front of these people.
Some people also found others with similar interests to chat with when there’s nothing to do, or exchange experience. Some even insult each other, which counts as a form of unique friendship.
This lifestyle enchanted many, so much so that they even forgot what they originally came here for.
However, amid their heated discussion as usual, a soldier suddenly rushed in.
The city lord’s expression changed. Who was this person, doesn’t know what time it is, showing such disrespect. "Who are you, and why did you come in without my permission?"
He decided if this guy didn’t give a proper explanation, he certainly wouldn’t let him off easily.
If it were usual times, he would have already thrown him out. But now, with so many fellow strong ones watching, he had to keep face and definitely needed this guy to give a detailed explanation.
Turning his head, he saw that the soldier had many cracks on his armor, with blood streaming out. The soldier himself was sweating heavily, panting heavily, and looking pale; it was evident he was in poor condition.
Seeing the way the visitor looked, the city lord’s expression actually improved somewhat.
This wasn’t someone intentionally trying to create trouble for him, it seemed like there was truly a big issue happening.
"Ask him first, based on his appearance, he should have just returned from the battlefield, right?"
Someone beside spoke up, seeming to be helping him out of the predicament, yet in reality, he was mocking. Returning from the battlefield meant being a deserter; the city lord’s face immediately darkened.
"Speak, what happened?" the city lord snorted coldly, loudly questioning.
"Reporting to the city lord, things are dire; our frontline camps have already collapsed over half. Now, of the remaining camp soldiers, many have fled, and others face imminent mutiny."
The city lord’s face looked even worse: "How could this happen? I told you all to advance slowly, waiting for our negotiation results, and this is what you do? Where’s the commander? What the hell is he doing?"
"The commander has valiantly sacrificed; he was besieged and killed by those rebels. Given the situation at that time, now our city’s troops might have already collapsed." The soldier paid no attention to the increasingly ugly expression of the city lord.
"Hahahaha, your city’s troops truly have poor standards; the commander was actually killed by his own people, how amusing!" Enemies with him loudly taunted.
"What about everyone else, what happened to the other camps?" These past few days, these city lords were bickering every day without knowing what happened on the front lines, or this kind of situation would never occur.
"Many camps are in chaos, either caused by the enemy or by ourselves, with the chaos we caused even being more. When I left, nearly one-tenth of the camps were already in turmoil."
"Impossible, absolutely impossible, our troops have the best quality." Someone shouted loudly.
"Tell us, what exactly happened." The city lord’s expression grew strange, unsure whether to feel relieved or angry.
Then the visitor quickly detailed the battlefield changes during this period, which the city lords all listened to attentively. After all, they didn’t know what had been happening on the front lines all this time, so they hadn’t been paying attention.
They always thought the front lines were progressing slowly per their agreement, not realizing any fighting had occurred.
Who would have thought the front lines had turned out this way, and how much their losses ended up being.
"Damn, why was there no report?" Someone angrily shouted.
But immediately someone from his side spoke up: "City lord, it wasn’t that we didn’t report, but you instructed that nothing should interrupt the negotiations. It’s all in these documents."
The city lord finally looked at the documents on his desk; they rarely ever look at these things. Small matters are dealt with by those below, big matters they directly address, who would care about these things.
But who would have thought this situation would develop this way, and how fast it has developed.
"Then what about support, why is there no support?"
"Without the city lord’s orders, the reinforcements below dare not act at all."
The city lord finally remembered that troop movements required his orders; without knowing the situation, how could he have ordered support, leading to these outcomes likely being his big mistake.
"Damn it, order the support now, immediately."
But the person didn’t move, continuing, "Now ordinary support might be useless, the front has descended into complete chaos. Plus, the enemy’s strength is very strong, those undead are unpredictable. The most crucial matter is within our city."
"What’s happening within the city?" Everyone turned to view the screen over there, quickly instructing their people to investigate.
"The city now has many people demonstrating and protesting, with many not working, the streets are blocked. At this rate, things might get troublesome. Also recently..."
"What happened recently?" The city lord grabbed the unfortunate official’s collar firmly, lifting him up.
The official didn’t dare resist at all and continued, "Recently, many people have already left our city saying they want to find a safer city. Moreover, some have even said they want to live in the City of the Dead, thinking it’s better there than here." The official quickly finished speaking.
Then this person was thrown out by the city lord, hitting the wall hard.
"Damn City of the Undead, gentlemen, we must do something now."
Indeed, after the recent investigations, they discovered their city was undergoing these situations. This world was very special; being a city lord with a city versus an eighth tier without a city were two vastly different things.
With one’s own city, a power boost happens secretly, where not only cultivation speed increases, but recovery rate and combat strength also improve. Losing the city has a significant impact on oneself.
And now, this situation with citizens evacuating already started affecting their fundamentals, absolutely cannot allow things to continue developing this way.
