Chapter 334: Chapter 318: They Can’t See You Anymore

After speaking, Guan Chong gave Lou Rui no chance for sophistry. He raised his hand and thrust the gun barrel into Lou Rui’s mouth, silencing the latter’s cries for help, just as Lou Rui had once strangled his own throat.

Wang Ping’an and Jiang Li pulled Lou Rui up from the ground on either side, dragging him across the floor as if they were handling a corpse, cursing in unison:

"Damn it, why don’t you lose some weight, you fat bastard? You’re so damned heavy! Don’t be lazy; you still have one leg working, so put some effort into it!"

The prison guards who were watching glanced at each other and stepped aside to clear the way.

Just then, Ma Xuan, who had received the news, rushed over. He cast a sidelong glance at Lou Rui, who was being dragged along the ground like a dead dog, a hint of anger flashing in his eyes.

His anger didn’t stem from any personal friendship with Lou Rui. In fact, he was equally disgusted by some of Lou Rui’s bad habits.

However, Lou Rui was a prison guard in Light Supervision Area C, a subordinate under Ma Xuan’s charge, and he couldn’t stand by while Lou Rui was taken away like this.

"Hold on, which area are you guys from? Who gave you the authority to arrest people indiscriminately?"

Ma Xuan stopped Guan Chong, and the guards behind him lined up, stepping forward undaunted even when confronted with the gun in Guan Chong’s hand.

Guan Chong dared to shoot Lou Rui directly but didn’t dare to shoot Ma Xuan. It wasn’t out of fear of Ma Xuan’s position as the area head, but because he didn’t want to cause trouble for Feng Mu.

Still, he couldn’t let Ma Xuan take Lou Rui back, because strangling Lou Rui was both the reward Feng Mu had promised him and the "task" Feng Mu had given him!

For whatever reason, he had to complete it.

"Even if I die here today, I have to get this done."

Guan Chong paused, a look of resolute determination flashing in his eyes.

Wang Ping’an and Jiang Li exchanged glances. Their looks, though less frenzied than Guan Chong’s, were equally resolute, one gripping an electric baton tightly, while the other held a gun steadily.

Ma Xuan raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised by the audacity of the three.

He gently adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose, his tone cold:

"I advise you three not to do anything stupid. The Second Prison is already chaotic enough today; don’t create more trouble for yourself or the people behind you."

Guan Chong stared at Ma Xuan’s leisurely demeanor, itching to shoot that face, but he had to admit, Ma Xuan’s words were impactful.

"I’m not afraid of causing trouble for myself; after all, my life is already a mess. But this four-eyed area head is right; I shouldn’t cause any problems for Feng Mu."

Guan Chong had a guiding principle — Feng Mu had only told him he could strangle Lou Rui, not fire at others.

Guan Chong took a deep breath and said slowly, "The warden instructed us to investigate this riot."

Ma Xuan knew about the orders given by the warden to Feng Mu; he was in the monitoring room at the time, and he wasn’t deaf — he’d heard clearly.

But Ma Xuan pretended he hadn’t heard. Even if confronted later, he had no fear.

Because he had ways to twist and argue against verbal orders later, not to mention the warden’s orders were directed at Feng Mu, not at these three guards whose names he didn’t even know.

Ma Xuan’s face was expressionless as he said, "I don’t think that’s what the warden meant. If you have any opinions, let Feng Mu come to talk to me. For now, leave the person here. Whether or not there’s a problem, we will investigate ourselves in the Light Supervision Area."

As he spoke, Ma Xuan lightly waved his hand. The guards behind him smirked coldly, and then stepped forward in unison, quickly approaching Guan Chong and the others.

Wang Ping’an gripped the electric baton tightly, the force turning his knuckles white.

Jiang Li’s face changed dramatically, taking a deep breath, with the gun aiming at the closest approaching guard.

However, the gun felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, pulling his trembling arm downward, from between the other’s eyebrows slowly down to the chest, and further down to the thighs.

Jiang Li bit his teeth hard, his finger bending to pull the trigger.

At the critical moment, Guan Chong quickly raised his left hand, pushed down Jiang Li’s gun barrel, preventing the latter from firing.

The advancing guards’ sneers grew even more contemptuous as they quickened their steps, with the foremost one unable to resist mocking:

"Afraid to shoot? Then why pretend like you can!"

A murderous glint flashed in Guan Chong’s eyes, suppressing the impulse to shoot the opponent, while his right hand swiftly withdrew the gun barrel plugging Lou Rui’s throat.

Lou Rui’s face brightened with hope, just about to speak, but the next moment felt like descending into an ice cave, his scalp tingling as he caught a glimpse of a cold gun barrel pressed against his temple.

The saliva sticking to the gun barrel dripped down his hair onto the side of his face, making his skin shiver.

Lou Rui abruptly went silent, the advancing guards stopped simultaneously, turning to look at Ma Xuan.

Ma Xuan narrowed his eyes, saying nothing, appearing to think but was actually waiting for Guan Chong to shoot.

In truth, he didn’t necessarily have to take Lou Rui back; leaving him with the others seemed fine, as long as he could confirm Lou Rui would keep quiet afterwards.

In that moment, Guan Chong’s heart was uncharacteristically calm, no longer caring about Ma Xuan’s intentions, as if he finally touched upon the calmness Feng Mu always exhibited.

"I really enjoy this time of reward, but unfortunately, it ends here!"

Guan Chong murmured calmly, pulling the trigger.

Lou Rui was tense, all attention focused on Guan Chong’s finger, raging internally:

"Damn, damn it all, stop acting like you’re about to die; it’s my head your gun is pointed at, it’s my life you’re about to end— ahhhhh—" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

BANG—

Lou Rui’s face turned crimson, the veins on his neck bulging as if they might burst, displaying a terrifying bluish-purple hue.

His neck jerked violently, his head instinctively thrown back, as a bullet whizzed past his forehead, leaving a warm splash in its wake.

Lou Rui crashed heavily onto the ground, his shot-knee shattering upon impact, trapped beneath his weight, sending waves of excruciating pain.

Yet, none of these could suppress Lou Rui’s survival instincts as surging adrenaline filled his rigid body with strength. On the ground, he struggled like a three-legged lizard, dragging a blood trail beneath him.

Meanwhile, Lou Rui’s voice, hoarse to near deformation, still managed to cry out:

"Area head, save me, save—"

Yet Ma Xuan seemed blind and deaf at the moment, unresponsive, his eyes beneath the gold-rimmed glasses showing indifference.

Guan Chong watched Lou Rui crawl, gazing at the prison guards frozen in time by the gunshot, a momentary trance in his eyes.

He displayed a sickly smile, murmuring softly:

"Hey, they all suddenly seem blind to you, just as they once were blind to me, isn’t that wonderful!"
