Chapter 22: Intern Hosts Are Unreliable
The director quickly handed the phone to the station chief.

The station chief took a deep breath, plastered a smile on his face, and answered the phone, “Is this Yang Fan?”
“Director, it’s Yang Fan, huh? Who’s this?” Yang Fan was about to report on his business trip, but was abruptly cut off by a cold male voice on the other end of the line.
Yang Fan hurriedly glanced at the number he dialed. He hadn’t dialed the office landline. This was definitely the director’s personal phone.
Why was the director’s phone in the hands of a man?
Wasn’t the director single? How could there be an unfamiliar man around her?
The station chief chuckled nervously, “Yang Fan, it’s the station chief. Can’t you recognize my voice?”
Yang Fan froze for a moment, then struggled to recall when he last saw the station chief.
Judging by memory, it was probably at the annual meeting last year?
He hadn’t seen the station chief in so long, he had forgotten what the station chief looked like, let alone remembering his voice!
This was a bit difficult!
“Oh, oh, oh, it’s you, station chief! Hello! station chief, I wanted to apply for...” Yang Fan was about to mention requesting the use of the official live stream account when the station chief interrupted him.
“Hold on, don’t say anything. I already know everything,” the station chief said, afraid that Yang Fan would outright resign.
Yang Fan was stunned, “Know everything? What do you know? I don’t know anything!”
“Yang Fan, you’re one of our veteran staff. I thought about it, and your program’s time slot isn’t ideal. I want to adjust the time for your show,” the station chief said with a forced smile, speaking carefully.
The station had been overshadowed by the satellite TV networks for years, with no presence at all. But this year, Yang Fan stood out.
Their station had finally gained a chance to hold its head high in front of the satellite TV networks.
However, now that Yang Fan was becoming a rising star, other companies were trying to poach him. This could not be allowed, absolutely not!
This was their own talent—why should they let another company take him?
Other companies wanted results, but what about their station? Didn’t they deserve some results too?
Even if other companies were trying to steal talent, they had to wait until after the New Year! It was unprofessional to do it now!
The station chief had already made up his mind: no matter the cost, Yang Fan had to stay. If he couldn’t keep him, he needed to keep him at least until after the New Year!
At the very least, they would get a chance to show off in front of the satellite networks before Yang Fan leaves!
Yang Fan, still clueless, grew more anxious and said, “Adjust the time slot? Why?”
Time slots for shows were rarely adjusted.
Unless something major had happened.
Damn! Could it be that during his absence, the intern host, Hao Yue, made a mess while covering for him?
He knew it! That intern host was unreliable!
“Station chief, did Hao Yue make a mistake?”
“Station chief, wait until I get back from my business trip. I’ll definitely reprimand her! I’m Hao Yue’s mentor, so if she causes trouble, it’s my responsibility. When I get back, I’ll...”
Yang Fan hurriedly admitted the mistake, which made the station chief’s face turn increasingly green.
This conversation couldn’t continue! If it went on, there was a possibility that Yang Fan was going to directly resign and apologize!
The station chief stood up from his chair, anxiously pacing back and forth. “Yang Fan, Yang Fan, Yang Fan, calm down, calm down. Hao Yue is fine, she didn’t cause any trouble. Don’t worry about her, she’s fine.”
Shi Lei, standing beside him, weakly raised his hand and laughed, “Station chief, didn’t Hao Yue cause trouble in the live broadcast yesterday?”
“No!” The station chief glared, “Why are you so clueless? Did I tell you to speak? Did I tell you to speak?”
“Station chief, she really caused trouble, but in the end, I cleaned up the mess. If you don’t believe me, ask the director!” Shi Lei said pitifully.
The director, fuming with anger, walked up and elbowed Shi Lei hard, grinding her teeth and saying, “No, she didn’t!”
Shi Lei, clutching his aching stomach, looked even more aggrieved, “But clearly...”
The director casually grabbed a file from the station chief’s desk and pointed it at Shi Lei’s eyes threateningly, as if to say, “If you say another word, It’s not gonna end well for you!”
Shi Lei silently closed his mouth, feeling even more wronged.
Trouble had indeed occurred, but he wasn’t even allowed to speak about it!
Yang Fan, hearing the commotion on the other end of the line, was dumbfounded.
“Yang Fan, calm down. The reason I want to adjust your show’s time is because your show is doing really well. But, the afternoon time slot is a bit of a waste.”
“So, I want to move your program to the prime time slot, from 8 PM to 10 PM.”
“Also, your apprentice Hao Yue is an excellent host. Don’t worry, she’s fine, really fine.” The station chief quickly tried to change the topic, determined to suppress the incident involving Hao Yue’s live broadcast.
With this, the station chief finally breathed a sigh of relief. Now there was no way for Yang Fan to bring up resignation.
“I’ve moved your show to prime time, the best time slot we have! This shows how much the station values you. You must see that, right?”
“If you still want to resign, that’s fine. I’ve got better things waiting for you after the New Year, but for now, you’re not going anywhere!”
Yang Fan blinked and couldn’t help but ask, “Station chief, what exactly is going on at the station?”
He wasn’t stupid. He could tell something was off!
“The station? The station is fine. There’s nothing going on here,” the station chief said.
Yang Fan: “...”
“Okay, then let me rephrase my question. What happened to me during my business trip?” Yang Fan asked, puzzled that he, the person involved, had no idea what was going on.
“You? You’re fine!”
“Yang Fan, let me tell you, there is no one at the station who is more handsome, more steady in their hosting skills than you.”
“What’s more, you’re so young—you’re absolutely the future host of the station!”
“No, no, no, scratch that—you’re the station’s host right now!”
“Speaking of which, I just remembered, Yang Fan, you’ve been with the station for so long, so your salary and benefits should be raised.”
“Your old salary was... never mind what it was. From now on, we’ll double it.”
“And, since you’re also mentoring an apprentice, you’re working even harder. So, from now on, we’ll pay you six extra hours of overtime every day.”
“Yang Fan, how does this sound? Are you satisfied with it?” The station chief carefully asked.
This was a pretty good offer. So, what about thinking it over and not resigning?
In his heart, the station chief silently prayed.
Yang Fan pressed his lips tightly together. He felt that he had asked the wrong question earlier. He shouldn’t have asked what happened to him, he should’ve just directly asked: “Station chief, what’s going on with you?”
Yang Fan let out a sigh of frustration, which startled the station chief so much that his soul nearly left his body!
