Chapter 20: Hu Ge’s Colorful Words!
At this moment, Yang Fan was completely unaware of what was happening at the radio station.
Meanwhile, the main cast was enjoying dinner together.
Director Li, the assistant director, Yang Fan, Wu Jing, Zhang Yi, Zhang Ziyi, Jing Boran, Hu Ge—all of them filled the table with laughter and chatter.
Qu Hong had been invited as well, but she mentioned that she had a flight to catch that evening. She didn’t have enough time, so she couldn’t make it.
Wu Jing picked up a piece of chili with his chopsticks, placed it into Yang Fan’s bowl, and said with a smile, “Yang Fan, eat more. The food here is super authentic. We come here all the time.”
“Alright, thank you,” Yang Fan replied gratefully, biting into the chili.
As soon as he took a bite, the fiery spice hit him hard. It was so spicy it stung his nose and brought tears to his eyes. Yang Fan barely managed to maintain his composure. “Good thing I’ve got acting skills. Otherwise, who knows what kind of face I’d be making right now?”
But while acting could hide expressions, it couldn’t suppress physical reactions.
Yang Fan couldn’t help but tear up from the spiciness. Two teardrops rolled down his face.
Wu Jing, grinning from ear to ear, teased him, “Yang Fan, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

Yang Fan quickly grabbed a tissue to wipe his tears while glancing at the half-eaten chili in his bowl. The tiny specks of dried red chilies inside caught his attention.
Yang Fan looked at Wu Jing with a deeply “grateful” expression and squeezed out the words through gritted teeth: “I’m…thinking of my mom.”
Hu Ge, who sat nearby, patted Yang Fan on the shoulder with understanding.
As actors, they often spent months at a time in production, hardly getting a chance to see their parents.
Yang Fan, a new-media professional, either traveled frequently or spent his days in the office.
For their generation, whose parents were mostly farmers living in rural areas, they only got to visit home during major holidays.
“No wonder he’s feeling homesick all of a sudden,” Hu Ge thought, empathizing with Yang Fan.
Yang Fan, not missing a beat, picked up another piece of chili and placed it into Hu Ge’s bowl. “Here, try this. After eating it, you’ll definitely remember your mom’s cooking!”
Without hesitation, Hu Ge popped the entire chili into his mouth.
The next moment, his face froze.
Yang Fan looked at him with a grin. “What’s wrong, Hu Ge?”
Hu Ge, torn between laughing and crying, struggled to chew the chili and muttered through clenched teeth, “Yang Fan, you jerk! *#%@¥#…”
The entire group immediately burst into laughter, realizing what had happened.
Sensing Hu Ge’s plight, Yang Fan, filled with survival instincts, hurriedly handed him some tissues so he could spit out the chili.
Wu Jing, playing the peacemaker, handed Hu Ge a bottle of water. Hu Ge reached for it but suddenly stopped, his expression turning wary.
“I’m not drinking anything you give me! Who knows what’s in it this time?”
“hahahahahaha!” Everyone erupted in laughter once again.
It was obvious to the group that Wu Jing must’ve asked the chef to prepare those devilishly spicy chilies on purpose—there was no other explanation.
“Who else would stuff an innocent-looking chili with enough xiaomi jiao (super spicy chilies) to take someone down?” Zhang Yi jokes, laughing uncontrollably.
Still laughing, Wu Jing picked up another chili and placed it into Zhang Yi’s bowl. “If you’re my bro, eat this chili!”
Zhang Yi glared at Wu Jing with mock fury and said through clenched teeth, “I haven’t even eaten it yet, but I’m already starting to think about your mom.”
“Why?” Wu Jing asked, genuinely curious, though he had a feeling it wasn’t going to end well for him.
“I was just thinking,” Zhang Yi began, grinning, “your mom’s such a kind woman. How on earth did she give birth to such a troublemaker like you?”
“hahahahahaha!” The group burst into another fit of laughter.
Jing Boran gave Zhang Yi a thumbs-up, clearly impressed.
Zhang Ziyi, sitting nearby, was laughing so hard she was bent over her chair, completely breaking her usual composed image.
Taking advantage of the commotion, Director Li leaned over to Hu Ge and asked, hopeful, “Hu Ge, can I take a photo with you? Just the two of us?”
“Uh, sure,” Hu Ge replied, slightly puzzled.
Director Li snapped a photo, then looked at Hu Ge with a strange expression.
“My wife’s a huge fan of yours,” he admitted.
Hu Ge blinked in surprise. “So, technically, I’m your romantic rival?”
Director Li nodded gravely, sighing. “But you’re a rival I have to pamper, spoil, and even flatter!”
““hahahaha!”!” Hu Ge couldn’t hold back anymore and joined in the laughter.
Meanwhile, Zhang Ziyi quietly slipped a business card into Yang Fan’s hand. She smiled at him and said nonchalantly, “Yang Fan, did you see that? That’s the bittersweet reality of working behind the scenes.”
“Whenever you’re ready, you’re welcome to step into the spotlight,” she added meaningfully.
Yang Fan stared at her in confusion. He glanced at the card in his hand.
On it was not just Zhang Ziyi’s personal contact details but also the contact information for her company’s manager and agent.
On the back, there was a list of benefits and perks for joining her company.
Yang Fan was stunned. “Since when did I become this popular?”
Jing Boran, after observing silently, also slipped a business card into Yang Fan’s hand. “You’re always welcome to step into the spotlight,” he said warmly.
Yang Fan gave the two of them an awkward smile before tucking both cards into his pocket.
However, when he reached into his pocket, he found another card that wasn’t there before.
He took it out and saw two large characters printed on it: Hu Ge.
Underneath it were rows of contact information for Hu Ge’s company team.
Yang Fan’s face turned strange. “What is going on? You’re all top-tier celebrities, international icons. Can we act with a little more dignity?”
“Anyone who doesn’t know the context would think you’re handing me…those kinds of cards!”
“If a paparazzi snaps a photo of this, no matter how many explanations I give, I’m doomed!”
