Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 5: She Has Sienna Paxton’s Scent
Seeing those two words, Chloe Nash almost lost control of her emotions.
She only held the identity of a mother for a month.
She had planned to leave the war zone with her son in a few days, but she never imagined that farewell would be their last meeting.
When she learned that the medical station had been bombed, she ran towards it like a madwoman.
She couldn’t care less about the severe injuries on her face.
But when she arrived, it had already turned to ashes.
Everyone at the medical station had been slaughtered.
It had been set on fire, and not even a corpse could be found.
She recklessly rushed into the ashes, repeatedly calling out her son’s pet name.
But what responded to her were the sounds of gunshots.
She knelt on the ground, wailing, and kept saying sorry to her son.
Finally, she fainted in the wreckage.
When she awoke again, she had been rescued.
The person who rescued her told her that all the medical staff and patients in the rear had perished, not a single survivor.
Recalling this, Chloe felt as if her heart was being tightly squeezed, suffocating her.
She stared at Julian Prescott’s handsome face, thinking that heaven had returned her dead son.
Just as she was about to embrace Julian, she heard Silas Prescott’s cold voice.
"Julian Prescott, don’t be naughty, come to Daddy."
Hearing this, Chloe snapped out of her memories, her pupils shrinking.
Julian Prescott?
He is Silas Prescott’s son?
Realizing this, Chloe felt as though she had been pierced by ten thousand arrows.
The excruciating pain made her forget to breathe.
After she left, not only did Silas get married, he also had a child.
But her child had died in the battlefield and could never return.
If she hadn’t feared being taken back by Silas and having the child aborted, she wouldn’t have chosen to stay in the war zone after learning she was pregnant.
Heaven not only gave her a mother who abandoned her but also took away her father and grandfather.
Even her son, whom she risked her life to give birth to, was taken mercilessly by heaven.
Leaving her alone in this world, to endure the pain of losing them.
Thinking of these, Chloe gripped her fingers tightly.
Her nails dug into her palm, sending sharp pains.
She tried to hide her emotions, stiffly rubbing Julian’s head.
"Auntie has work to do, go find your father."
After saying this, she stood up, taking Old Master Prescott’s report, and spoke to the expert team, "Today’s data is excellent, keep it up, and the surgery tomorrow is sure to succeed."
She then instructed other doctors and nurses on some precautions.
Then she said, "We’ll have the final pre-surgery meeting in the conference room at 2 PM today. I hope everyone attends promptly."
"Alright, Dr. Nash."
"Everyone, get on with your tasks."
When Chloe was working, she appeared very aloof, her eyes filled with authority.
Her strong professionalism also commanded the admiration of all the doctors and nurses.
Seeing Chloe like this, Silas couldn’t help but think of Sienna Paxton.
Sienna Paxton was also a medical student.
She studied professionally well too.
Except he hadn’t had the chance to see her in action before she disappeared without a trace. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Watching Chloe leave the ward, Silas followed her out.
He called out in a deep voice, "Dr. Nash."
Chloe was walking and talking with another doctor when she heard someone call her, and she immediately stopped in her tracks.
She told the others, "Go ahead and carry on with your work."
She turned to face Silas, her demeanor distant, "Mr. Prescott, do you need something?"
Silas walked up to her, scrutinizing her composed face.
He handed her a card and said, "Here is ten million, as the reward for this surgery."
Chloe didn’t take the card but instead gave a light laugh.
"Mr. Prescott, are you giving me such a large sum because you’re worried I won’t be diligent with the surgery? If so, rest assured, I am a doctor. Saving lives is my duty. What you’re doing is insulting my professionalism."
Silas couldn’t help but chuckle at her upright stance.
"At that time, I issued a notice offering ten million to find someone to do this surgery. I am merely fulfilling my promise. Dr. Nash, why do you think so poorly of me? Did we have a grudge in the past?"
With one sentence, Chloe, who initially had the upper hand, was left speechless.
She did see the notice Silas had issued online, and indeed the reward was ten million.
At the time, her focus was entirely on Grandpa Prescott, and she forgot this detail.
Now Silas had caught her oversight.
Chloe forced a stiff smile, "I’m sorry, I was focused only on the patient’s situation, not on the reward. I didn’t mean to accuse you."
Silas curved his lips slightly, "In that case, please accept this card, so no one can say our Prescott family goes back on its word."
He offered the card to Chloe once again.
Just then, a hospital bed was wheeled past them.
The family member pushing the bed was busy talking on the phone and didn’t see the two standing in the hallway.
As the bed was about to collide with Chloe, Silas acted swiftly.
He grabbed Chloe’s arm and pulled her into his embrace.
After many years, being held by this man again almost stopped Chloe’s heart from beating.
This embrace had once given her safety and warmth, and had also been part of memories she least wanted to recall.
Chloe instinctively pushed Silas away, panic welling in her eyes.
Her voice was slightly hoarse, "Thank you, I have to go now."
Watching Chloe’s retreating figure, Silas recalled what had just happened.
Lowering his head slowly, he brought the fingers that had just touched Chloe’s hair to his nose and sniffed.
His pupils couldn’t help but widen.
Why, despite the different scents, did he smell Sienna Paxton’s scent on Chloe?
