Chapter 40: Chapter 40: "Did I Hurt You Last Night?

From the moment Sienna was brought back to the Prescott Family, Old Master Prescott cared for her more than for the other children in the house.

He always made time for her in his busy schedule, teaching her how to brew tea or play chess.

He often told her about the ways of the world.

At that time, Sienna was in her adolescence, being raised in someone else’s home; he was afraid she might grow rebellious and go down the wrong path.

Later, when she got into the best medical university, he personally took Sienna to pay respects at Grandpa Prescott’s grave.

Standing before the grave, Sienna saw Grandpa Prescott cry for the first time.

He said, "Brother Paxton, I’ve fulfilled what I promised you. Sienna hasn’t let you down—she’s been admitted to her dream university, and she’ll definitely have a bright future. You can rest easy now."

Thinking back on all this, Chloe Nash felt a deep sorrow.

Even though she had escaped Silas Prescott’s control, she had also let down Grandpa Prescott, who had treated her so kindly.

She hadn’t had time to repay him for his kindness before she disappeared.

And she even made him sad along with her.

Chloe forced herself to swallow the ache in her chest, took out her phone, and said, "Grandpa Prescott, let’s add each other on WeChat. If you have any health issues, you can contact me directly."

"Wonderful, you add me—I don’t know how."

As the two were talking, footsteps came from the stairs.

Chloe looked toward the sound.

Silas Prescott was walking downstairs.

The man wore a white shirt and black suit pants, the collar slightly open, revealing his cold, pale collarbone. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

There was a trace of exhaustion between his deep-set brows and eyes.

There was a wound on his sexy lips.

Seeing this, Chloe swallowed nervously.

She remembered the wound—she’d bitten him in a panic last night.

Afraid someone would notice, she quickly stood up and handed her phone to Grandpa Prescott: "Grandpa Prescott, the WeChat is set up. If you need anything, contact me anytime. I have things to handle at home, so I’ll be going now."

Finishing, she grabbed her bag and tried to leave.

But Julian grabbed her hand, "Mommy, don’t go."

Seeing his pitiful look, Chloe’s heart ached.

She knew how much Julian depended on her, and knew that if she could stay, maybe it would help his condition.

But every extra day she stayed, the greater the chance the truth would come out.

Chloe still shrank back.

She gently stroked Julian’s head: "Julian, Auntie really has to go now, I can’t stay with you. Be good, and we can video call later, all right?"

Big teardrops rolled down Julian’s cheeks.

Thinking that his mom wasn’t just his own, that she had other children, too—

Thinking she was about to leave, he was overwhelmed with sadness.

He clung to Chloe and wouldn’t let go, crying out, "Mommy, Julian will be good, don’t go."

The words were so aggrieved that Chloe couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness.

At a loss, she looked toward Silas Prescott.

"Mr. Prescott, my son’s school is about to have a parent-teacher meeting, I really have to go."

Silas looked at her deeply, his tone calm and measured.

"You’re not the only parent he has. Julian really needs you now, and my grandfather’s illness could return at any time. I hope Dr. Nash can stay a while longer until they’re both stable before going back."

Silas knew he was being unreasonable.

After all, Chloe had a husband and son waiting at home for her.

He had no reason to keep her from leaving.

But whenever he imagined her reuniting with her family, something in the depths of his heart turned savage.

After hearing him out, Chloe frowned in difficulty.

Both Grandpa Prescott and Julian were people she couldn’t bear to leave behind.

While she was hesitating, her phone suddenly rang.

Seeing the caller ID, she immediately answered.

On the other end, Fries’s aggrieved voice came through: "Mommy, the day after tomorrow’s parent-teacher meeting is really important, the teacher wants both Mom and Dad to come. Why aren’t you back yet..."

Chloe hurriedly replied, "Mommy will be back tomorrow, I promise I’ll go to your parent-teacher meeting."

Hanging up, Chloe looked apologetically at Silas Prescott.

"Sorry, I promised my son I’d be there for his parent-teacher meeting. I can’t break my word. If Grandpa Prescott or Julian need anything in the future, we can always stay in touch by phone."

After that, no one had any reason to ask her to stay.

After all, Chloe didn’t belong to them—she had her own family.

Though unwilling, Silas just nodded lightly, "Let’s go, I’ll drive you."

They got into the car. Silas’s dark eyes stared at her for several seconds.

Suddenly he asked, "Did I hurt you last night?"

His words were full of innuendo, making Chloe remember their past together.

Every time, after making love, Silas would gently stroke her brow and, his voice hoarse, ask, "Sienna, did I hurt you? I’m sorry, I just couldn’t control myself. I’ll try to do better next time, all right?"

He said it every time, but never really controlled himself.

Chloe’s cheeks flushed.

She quickly avoided Silas’s eyes, pretending to compose herself: "I hope there won’t be any more mistaken identities in the future."

Silas nodded.

There was a swirl of unreadable emotion in his dark eyes. He asked, "Dr. Nash, from a medical perspective, can you explain why I would sense the same person’s scent from two different people? Do you think I’m sick—or is there some secret I don’t know about between them?"

His words made Chloe’s chest tighten and her breath catch.

Her eyes grew panicked, and she instinctively took a few steps back.

Staring at Silas’s dangerous gaze, she replied, voice a bit rushed: "That isn’t my field. If you need help, Mr. Prescott, you should see a psychologist. I have something else to do—I’ll go now."

With that, she hurriedly opened the car door and left.

Silas watched Chloe’s desperate retreat and couldn’t help but touch the corner of his lips.

"Chloe Nash, I will definitely find out who you really are."
