Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Do You Want to Be the Other Woman?

Silas stared at the backs of those people, his gaze gradually clouded with gloom.

He had nothing to do with Chloe, but his son did.

Silas immediately took out his phone and called Julian.

"Julian, Dr. Nash twisted her ankle, she’s at the hospital now."

When he heard this news, Julian’s nervous little face went pale.

His mom was sick; he had to hurry over to see her.

He hung up and dragged Lucy Rhodes outside by the hand, communicating with her through his phone as they walked.

Seeing how anxious he was, Lucy laughed and tried to comfort him.

"Julian, twisting an ankle isn’t such a terrible thing, it’s not fatal. Don’t worry, just stay home and rest for a bit and it’ll be fine."

After hearing her words, Julian’s tense expression finally relaxed.

He pulled Lucy into the car.

When they arrived at the hospital, he immediately spotted Chloe, who had just finished taking her x-ray.

She was sitting in a wheelchair, being pushed by a man.

That man wasn’t his dad.

Julian instantly sensed danger and ran to Chloe’s side on his tiny legs.

He hardened his little face and stared at Jett Sterling.

Those chubby lips pouted several times before he finally spoke: "She’s my mom!"

His eyes were full of hostility, but the words came out in his childish voice.

Jett laughed, knocking him on the head: "Kid, you’re still wet behind the ears, but you dare to compete with me? Even your dad is no match for me."

Julian angrily snatched the wheelchair away from him, "She’s my mom, I’ll push."

Seeing how capable his son was, Silas raised his eyebrows proudly.

But his tone was amiable: "Sorry, my son tends to stick close to his mom."

Jett was so amused by this father-son routine he nearly laughed out loud.

She was just his fake mom, but the two of them talked like she was the real deal.

He gave Silas a sour look: "Can’t win it yourself, so you send your son to help? Silas, already mooching off the young ones at thirty?"

Silas just smiled, unfazed, "What can I say? I’ve got one."

"So what if you have a son, being a stepmom isn’t easy."

Chloe was a bit surprised to see Julian: "Julian, how did you get here?"

Julian pulled out his phone and typed: [I’m worried about mom. Does it hurt, mom? Julian can blow on it for you.]

His chubby little fingers flew across the phone screen.

Reading his message, Chloe’s heart felt warm and fuzzy.

Every time Julian called her mom, it felt like her son had come home.

She kissed Julian’s cheek: "I’m fine, I just need to rest for a few days. Don’t worry, okay?"

Seeing how fast Julian typed, Jett was incredulous: "He’s so young, and he already knows pinyin? And all these words?"

Silas curled his lips proudly: "Well, look whose son he is."

Jett sneered: "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re plotting, trying to sneak her away through your kid. As long as I’m here, forget it."

While the two were bickering, Chloe’s phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, she smiled and answered.

Her voice was tender as she called out, "Honey, do you like the present I gave you?"

The way she called him ’honey’ was a little coy, and immediately made the two men stop arguing.

The proud look on their faces instantly became stiff.

It was only then that they realized, after all the quarreling, that at best, they were just the third wheel.

Suddenly, Silas felt his breath coming up short. He tugged his tie loose and undid two shirt buttons, but none of it eased the pressure in his chest.

His dark eyes stayed fixed on Chloe.

Watching her smile so happily, speak with such softness.

Only, the one she was talking to wasn’t him.

Silas walked out with his phone, dialing his assistant.

His calm tone carried a chilling sense of menace.

"In three days, I want every piece of information on Chloe Nash overseas."

——

Back home, Chloe was still struggling inside.

To avoid Silas, she wanted to leave as soon as possible, but every time she thought about Julian, she couldn’t bring herself to go.

But she knew she couldn’t stay any longer.

One Silas was enough to make her nervous, and now there was Jett too.

She wasn’t strong enough to play mind games with two of the biggest businessmen out there.

Chloe went shopping with her parents for a bunch of things, and even took them for full physical exams.

Once she found out they were perfectly healthy, she booked her ticket home.

Before leaving, she went to see Grandpa Prescott.

Under the pretense of a checkup, she talked with him for a long time.

The old gentleman’s warmth toward her was impossible to hide, and it nearly made Chloe break down in tears several times.

When she left the hospital room, her eyes were red.

She would never forget that, at her darkest and loneliest moment, Grandpa Prescott was the one who reached out his hand to her.

No matter how long she lived, she could never repay that kindness.

She used the bank card Silas gave her to make a donation to the orphanage in Grandpa Prescott’s name.

She was raised by Grandpa Prescott, so this money wasn’t hers to keep.

She hoped this good deed could bless Grandpa Prescott with health.

By the time she finished everything, three days had passed.

There were only two days left before Chloe was set to leave.

That day, she was at home eating a meal Mrs. Nash had made, when her phone suddenly rang.

Seeing it was Lucy Rhodes calling, she answered right away.

On the other end, Lucy’s voice was urgent: "Dr. Nash, could you come to the Prescott house? Julian has a fever. My brother isn’t home, he won’t take medicine or get shots, and won’t let anyone near him. If this keeps up, it’ll kill him!"

She tensed up immediately when she heard the news.

"How could this happen? Wasn’t he fine yesterday?"

Lucy was crying with guilt: "It’s my fault—I told Grandpa Prescott that you’re married and have a child, and Julian overheard. He locked himself in his room and wouldn’t come out, and by the time we got in, he had a fever.

Dr. Nash, I know you have a child, but Julian really loves you. Can you come see him?"

When Chloe heard that Julian had gotten sick because he couldn’t bear to lose her, her eyes filled with tears of heartbreak.

She immediately stood up: "Lucy, don’t worry, I’m coming right now."
