Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 12: Fainting in His Arms
All of her emotions were observed by Silas Prescott.
He saw her panic and her fear of him.
That look in her eyes was just like when Sienna Paxton was caught escaping by him.
But Chloe Nash is not Sienna Paxton; she’s just Grandpa’s doctor. She doesn’t need to be so afraid of him.
Silas Prescott paced over.
With an inquisitive look in his eyes, he asked, "Dr. Nash, why are you so tense?"
Chloe Nash steadied her frantic breathing and said, "What brings you here?"
"To ensure the surgery goes smoothly for Grandpa, I came to pick you up. I didn’t expect to scare you like this. Haven’t we met before? Why do you seem to both fear and resent me?"
Chloe Nash quickly shook her head, "No, it’s just that there was a stranger at home, and I came down in my pajamas. It seemed a bit inappropriate."
Silas Prescott looked her up and down, his tone calm.
"It’s my fault for coming unannounced. I apologize."
Mrs. Nash heard the commotion and hurried over from the kitchen.
Seeing the broken glass on the floor, she knew what had happened.
She immediately went over and said, "I was going to go upstairs and tell you that Mr. Prescott was here, but he said he wanted you to rest more. Otherwise, a dozen hours of surgery would be too exhausting."
Chloe Nash shook her head, "I’m fine. I’ll get a broom and clean this up."
"No need, you go eat. I’ll take care of this."
Chloe Nash glanced at Silas Prescott and politely asked, "Mr. Prescott, have you eaten yet?"
She was just asking casually.
Because she knew that Silas Prescott was a germaphobe.
Even if he hadn’t eaten, he wouldn’t easily eat at someone else’s home. Even if he dined out, he had to choose a restaurant he trusted.
But in the next moment, she heard Silas Prescott say, "I haven’t eaten yet. Can we eat together?"
Chloe Nash nervously clenched her fingers.
But her face remained calm as she led Silas Prescott into the dining room.
As soon as they sat down, Mr. Nash brought over the soup.
With a cheerful smile, he said, "Chloe, this is the black-bone chicken soup dad made for you. Have more of it. You’re too skinny. All those junk foods abroad have no nutrition."
Feeling the care of her family, Chloe Nash couldn’t describe the feelings in her heart.
The real Chloe Nash died in her place, and here she was, sitting here enjoying the love meant for Chloe.
Her voice hoarsened, "Thank you, Dad."
"What are you thanking me for? You finally came home, it’s a father’s duty to take care of you. Be careful, it’s hot."
Mr. Nash served a bowl for Chloe Nash.
Then he turned to Silas Prescott, "Mr. Prescott, would you like to try? My chicken soup is the best in the world."
Silas Prescott smiled gently, "Well then, I must try and not waste uncle’s efforts."
"That’s a must, here, have a bowl."
Chloe Nash kept her head down, drinking the soup, trying to treat Silas Prescott as if he didn’t exist.
Just then, a peeled egg appeared on her plate.
A gentle and pleasant voice sounded by her ear, "Drink less soup, eat more carbs. The surgery will last long today, and there won’t be restroom breaks."
Chloe Nash smiled nonchalantly, "I’m used to it. It’s not an issue."
Noticing Silas Prescott always looking at Chloe Nash, Mrs. Nash quickly changed the topic.
"Mr. Prescott, have a bun. I make delicious soup dumplings."
"Sure, thank you."
The four of them sat together, politely finishing breakfast.
After breakfast, Chloe Nash changed clothes, bid farewell to her parents, and got into Silas Prescott’s car.
On the way, she kept reviewing the surgical plan; Silas Prescott drove, and neither of them spoke a word.
Finally, as they got out of the car, Silas Prescott spoke.
"Dr. Nash, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just do your best."
Chloe Nash smiled lightly.
If it were any other patient, she might not feel so pressured.
But this person was her benefactor, Grandpa Prescott. She couldn’t let anything happen to him.
This surgery must be a success; failure was not an option.
The two of them arrived at the hospital room, which was already crowded with people.
There were doctors and nurses there to check up, as well as the Prescott Family.
Lucy Rhodes saw Chloe Nash enter and hurried over to grab her arm, "Dr. Nash, I’m entrusting my grandfather to you."
Chloe Nash nodded, "Don’t worry. I’ll do my best."
Henry Prescott, seeing how young she was, questioned, "You’re so young; are you really better than those old experts? Don’t mess up and kill our old man, or I won’t let you off."
Chloe Nash looked at the person who had once spoken so harshly to her.
He said that back in ancient times, she was just a concubine servant of their family, meant to relieve the master’s stress.
Even if Silas Prescott slept with her, it was just a man’s release.
She shouldn’t harbor any thoughts of becoming the Prescott Family’s young mistress.
Thinking about it, Chloe Nash couldn’t help clenching her fists.
She looked calmly at Henry Prescott.
"At this point, you’re still saying such things. Clearly, you don’t care much for your father. If you cared more, you’d know that no one else could perform this surgery but me."
Though her tone was calm, her words were neither servile nor overbearing.
Leaving Henry Prescott somewhat embarrassed.
"I was just reminding you, nothing else."
Chloe Nash smiled, "Questioning a doctor in such a tone before surgery, do you know the impact on someone with less mental fortitude? If you want this surgery to go smoothly, please follow the doctor’s arrangements. Thank you."
With that, she passed by Henry Prescott and walked to Old Master Prescott.
Performing the final checks before surgery.
With everything ready, Old Master Prescott was wheeled into the operating room.
The surgery began.
Lucy Rhodes stood in the monitoring room, a little nervous, "Brother, the surgery is said to take over ten hours. Can Dr. Nash hold up?"
Silas Prescott’s eyes were firm as he watched Chloe Nash on video, "She’s a doctor. She has experience in this."
She watched Chloe Nash and the expert team carefully cut open Grandpa’s skull.
She watched her forehead break out in a sweat again and again, wiped away by the nurse repeatedly.
This surgery was extremely difficult; even a slight mishap could stop the patient’s heart.
Several times, Old Master Prescott’s data triggered alarms.
But Chloe Nash managed to resolve them all in time.
The surgery went on for hours, and the Prescott Family members went in and out several times.
Only Silas Prescott sat there the entire time, watching the surgery.
He saw her decisiveness, her professionalism.
When she excised the tumor and all of Grandpa’s data normalized, Silas Prescott heard a cheer from within the surgery room.
His long-held tension eased.
Finally, the surgery room doors opened.
The Prescott Family rushed forward, surrounding Chloe Nash, bombarding her with questions.
Chloe Nash calmly made a gesture for them to quiet down.
Then weakly said, "The surgery was very successful. The tumor was removed. He’ll stay in the ICU for a few days before being transferred to a regular ward."
Upon hearing this, Lucy Rhodes hugged Chloe Nash excitedly, "Dr. Nash, you’re our family’s lifesaver. I must treat you to a meal."
But just as she said this, Chloe Nash’s body went limp, slowly sliding out of her embrace.
Silas Prescott’s quick reflexes caught her in his arms, holding her horizontally.
His voice tinged with worry, "Dr. Nash."
