Chapter 115: Chapter 115: President Prescott, Is Pretending to Be Someone Else’s Husband Fun?

All the cases Chloe presented in her report were ones she had personally handled before.

The entire presentation was delivered in fluent English; when faced with questions from foreign attendees, she sometimes replied in French, German, or Japanese.

She answered questions with ease, explaining the difficulties encountered during surgery and how she overcame them with professional clarity.

Sunlight spilled through the window onto Chloe’s cheek, and for a brief moment, Silas Prescott was utterly captivated.

Back then, his Sienna...

In high school, when she was chosen as the student representative to speak before the entire school, Sienna was so excited she celebrated with him.

Now, Chloe standing on stage looked every bit as confident and composed as Sienna once did.

Just as Silas was lost in thought, someone in the audience couldn’t help but sigh, "How is this doctor so amazing? I’ve had all these issues myself, but never knew how to fix them. Listening to her, it’s like someone just opened my eyes."

"So young yet so skilled—whose child is this, so outstanding! If her family could see her now, they’d be bursting with pride."

Silas, having listened intently throughout the presentation, suddenly turned to the speaker and nodded politely. "She’s the mother of my son."

The person looked him up and down and exclaimed, "No wonder—talented man and beautiful woman, a perfect match. Your child is bound to be exceptional too."

"Thank you for the compliment,"

Silas replied without missing a beat.

But he underestimated their appetite for gossip; within minutes, rumors spread around the conference that Chloe had a handsome, perfectly matched husband.

As people came up to greet her after the event, one said, "Dr. Nash, you and your husband are just perfect together. Wishing you both every happiness!"

"Dr. Nash, your husband truly loves you—he sat through your whole presentation, listened so carefully. A power couple: he’s handsome, you’re gorgeous; seriously, you two are the envy of everyone here."

Chloe was totally confused, searching the crowd for this supposed husband.

"My husband? Where is he?"

"Over there—wait, where’d he go? He was just sitting there! He’s really good looking, amazing physique, so gentlemanly too. Dr. Nash, I had no idea you were already married, and at such a young age."

From the description, Chloe didn’t need to think twice about who that was.

She pulled out her phone and called Silas Prescott.

Her tone was anything but friendly: "President Prescott, do you find it amusing, pretending to be someone else’s husband?"

Silas chuckled low. "Dr. Nash, you’re that eager for me to be your husband? If you get divorced now, I might just consider it."

"Silas Prescott, did you come to my conference this morning?"

"Yes."

"Did you tell people you were my husband?"

"No, I just said you’re my son’s mother."

Chloe was so mad, her head hurt: "That’s a great way to make people misunderstand. The only reason I ever let Julian call me that was to help with his recovery. If you keep saying this nonsense, I’ll terminate our agreement."

She hung up immediately after finishing.

Silas looked at the disconnected call, a dark laugh rumbled in his throat.

"Terminate the agreement? Not until I’ve figured out who you really are—that agreement won’t end."

Sitting across from him, Chase Hughes couldn’t help but mock, "Look at you, desperate as hell. Don’t forget—even if we do prove Chloe is Sienna Paxton, she already has a husband, and they’re crazy in love. You’d have trouble being the side piece, you know?"

Silas shot him a chilly glare. "Think it’s fun to make fun of me? I asked you to investigate Chloe Nash. Still no progress? Maybe you don’t want that investment for your company anymore, huh?"

Chase gave a nervous laugh. "Hey, I’m working on it for you. If Chloe really is Sienna, she changed everything about herself just to hide from you. Even if you point out all the ways she’s like Sienna, if she won’t admit it—there’s nothing you can do."

"So what, you’re saying there’s no way to prove it?"

"Not quite. The best way in the world to confirm someone’s identity is a paternity test. Sienna’s grandpa and dad are gone, but doesn’t she still have that absentee mom? As long as we find her, do a test with Chloe, and there’s your answer."

At that, Silas’s gloomy eyes suddenly lit up. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

He’d totally overlooked that lead.

Sienna’s mother left her at age three and never came back. If they could find her, the truth about Chloe being Sienna could be settled once and for all.

For the first time, Silas felt that suffocating pressure in his chest disappear.

He lifted his glass and took a sip. "Then let’s start with that lead."

Chase clinked glasses with him. "Don’t worry, just tell me Sienna’s mom’s name, or give me a photo—I’ll track her down."

Silas frowned.

Sienna never once mentioned her mother in front of him, and she didn’t have a single photo.

Seeing his hesitation, Chase laughed quietly. "Dude, you seriously know nothing? How am I supposed to find her then?"

Silas set his glass down on the coffee table, voice steady. "Go through River Paxton’s records. His wife’s info should be in there."

"Now that’s a good idea. Come on, here’s to a breakthrough in our case—cheers."

As the two were drinking, Stella Sterling’s voice suddenly called from the doorway.

"Brother Silas, Brother Chase, you guys came to Varden and didn’t tell me—how am I supposed to be a good host if you don’t let me know?"

She walked over to Silas carrying a bottle of tequila.

Her voice soft: "Brother Silas, I heard you were here, so I brought a nice bottle from home for you to try. Here, let me pour you some."

She reached for Silas’s glass but he covered it with his hand.

He replied coolly, "Thank you for your kindness, Miss Sterling, but I don’t care for this kind of alcohol."

Stella looked at him, putting on a hurt expression. "Brother Silas, even if you dislike me or don’t want to marry into my family, our families still do business together. Can’t we at least be friends?"

Silas nodded, perfectly serious: "Sorry, I don’t make friends with people who have ulterior motives."

That one sentence left Stella completely embarrassed.

She’d thrown herself at him and he was still so cold.

If it weren’t for that bitch Chloe Nash stirring things up, she would have been Mrs. Prescott a long time ago.

To break the awkwardness, Chase grinned and offered his glass to Stella. "He can’t switch drinks or he’ll get drunk easily. Here, pour some for me—I’m good."

Grateful for the lifeline, Stella quickly poured Chase a glass.

"On behalf of my dad and my brother, welcome to Varden, you two! If you ever need anything, just tell me—I’ll do whatever I can to help."

She lifted her glass, about to toast Silas, but saw him set his glass down and rise to his feet, just nodding slightly toward her. "Sorry, I need to use the restroom."

Once again rejected, Stella’s face turned crimson with anger.

Her fingers turned pale as she gripped the glass.

Chase hurried to toast with her. "Here, I’ll drink with you—thanks for the good tequila, Miss Sterling."

Silas left the room, and as he passed down the hallway to the restroom, he happened to catch the sound of men’s voices from another room.

"Chloe, I brought you this wine from Franciae—you have to try it."

"This salmon was shipped in fresh by air, especially for you. Chloe, you have to try this later!"

"This perfume—my wife made it herself, I brought it for you, Chloe. I hope you’ll like it."

At the mention of her name, Silas stopped in his tracks and glanced toward the open doorway.

He caught sight of Chloe, smiling as she accepted gifts from a small group of foreign men.

Her smile was sweet as sugar, and there was a gentleness in her eyes he had never seen before.

Seeing this, Silas felt the veins on his forehead throb.
