Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi-Chapter 315: Breaking into Duke Akeley’s Main City
Chapter 315 -315: Breaking into Duke Akeley’s Main City
Although time was not on her side, Ye Nai still decided to take a bold risk.
There were matters waiting for her on Blue Star, so she couldn’t dawdle here.
Out of caution, she opened the Transmission Port but didn’t rush through; instead, she waited a minute and sent a spore over.
After a minute, when nothing happened, Ye Nai cautiously stepped through the Transmission Port and found herself in a more spacious courtyard.
This courtyard contained only one Transmission Platform, but it was spacious enough to accommodate a line of carriages or ox carts, making it suitable for noble travel or military supply transportation.
Ye Nai looked around; the walls were smooth without any signs of recent battles or fresh paint.
She listened carefully; all around was quiet. freewebnøvel.coɱ
She checked the spore’s positioning and found that aside from the rooted Fungal Mycelium, there was no one on this side of the Transmission Platform—not even a single soldier on watch; the majority were up on the city walls.
And it wasn’t just the walls of the Military Fortress; it was the entire main city’s walls.
This was clearly a sign of trouble.
Ye Nai patiently waited for nearly an hour as the spores completed their occupation and spread throughout the entire Military Fortress.
The lengthy process indicated that the fortress covered an extensive area; this being the Duke’s Main City, its strategic importance was self-evident, and it was normal to have a large military presence.
However, there were only five Transmission Platforms.
Ye Nai didn’t believe that the Transmission Platforms placed in the Duke’s Main City would lead to insignificant places, so she didn’t mind the small number; one of them must lead directly to the Royal Capital.
Following the spores’ positioning, she first swept through the dorms and offices, taking all the public and private valuables, and then she checked the warehouse, conveniently taking care of the few soldiers guarding it.
Lastly, she visited the kitchen.
There were cooks working in the kitchen, with several large pots boiling porridge, and she smelled the aroma of starch and energy intermingling.
A few small stoves were frying eggs and meat, obviously intended for the officers.
Seeing the cooks busy at work, Ye Nai left them alone and walked away, setting a half-hour countdown on her smartwatch before returning.
Underneath the Military Fortress, a fungal mat in the ground shot spores into the air, which the wind carried throughout the city, rooting and growing everywhere, including on the city walls.
According to the spores’ feedback, Enemy Soldiers were distributed along the main city’s surrounding walls, with a team responsible for each segment, ready for battle as if an external invasion were imminent.
What the invaders were mattered less than clearing out all the soldiers first.
Once that was done, Ye Nai made her way to the city walls, peering into the distance, curious about the situation.
With such heightened tension, could it be that this Duke Domain was built on a borderland?
From this vantage point, the scenery was not extraordinary; indeed, it was a mountainous environment outside, with the Duke Akeley’s Main City nestled at the foot of the mountain, a dual-lane road snaking into the mountains, and by car, the nearest foot of the mountain was just about an hour away.
The space between the city and the foot of the mountain was completely cleared, with only grass growing—not a single tree or bush to obstruct the view.
Ye Nai looked at the distant mountains and felt that the conditions here were indeed suitable for building a Wizard Academy.
Turning around, she walked to the flagpole on the city wall above the gate, pulled down the flag, and replaced it with her own.
Next, she took out a motorcycle and drove along the city wall, checking on the situation at each gate.
During this process, she occasionally looked down from her high vantage point to spy on the street layout and saw several lavish mansions in the city, some with towering spires, others sprawling bungalows.
Considering the status of wizards in this world, Ye Nai rode along guessing that such mansions belonged either to wizards or to nobles. As for which they were, she let the spores snoop around for her first.
The alarm on her watch went off, and Ye Nai made her way back to the Military Fortress kitchen, where she found that breakfast had just been made, being portioned out; some were eating in the cafeteria, others were about to take it up to the city wall.
Ye Nai acted promptly, collecting the chefs, kitchen supplies, and freshly hot breakfast into her Space.
After completely emptying the entire Military Fortress, she returned to the city wall and continued riding her motorcycle.
After circling most of the wall, she found that all the gates she saw were tightly shut, but the streets inside the city still bustled with many pedestrians and vehicles, as if life was going on as usual.
When she circled to the other side of the city, she discovered this was where the main city gate was located, opening onto a wide and straight avenue that could accommodate at least four carriages side by side, very well-suited for military maneuvers.
There was also a flagpole here.
Since she was here, she of course replaced the flag with her own as well.
Finally, she completed a full circle of the city wall and returned to the position of the rear city gate.
The spores sent back feedback that the people in those lavish estates in the city had been controlled, so Ye Nai immediately went to the most luxurious mansion with the spires.
She used Space Teleportation to land directly on the driveway of the mansion’s front garden.
Standing on the driveway and looking out to the street, she noticed the clever garden design, where a row of tall ornamental shrubs planted around the perimeter wall nicely shielded the view from passersby and also absorbed noise.
As she couldn’t see the pedestrians on the street, she felt at ease walking along the garden path towards the back.
Circling around the main house past one of the annexes, she saw a back garden with a fountain and grass, and noticed it was a symmetrical mansion, one main house with two annexes on either side.
Walking across the grassland spacious enough for a soccer game, Ye Nai saw there was another row of two-story buildings that looked somewhat rougher; because there were unconscious male and female servants lying along the path, she guessed this building was probably servant quarters.
Circling past this smaller building, there was another small garden similar in design to the front garden, and then a small gate leading onto the street.
One lavish mansion, the front door on one street, and the back door on another.
Ye Nai marveled as she observed; as someone from a small town, she had never encountered such a building filled with extravagant luxury. The architecture of Dahua Country now favored simplicity, and only pre-war films and dramas featured beautiful garden villas and apartment buildings.
She returned to the main house and visited the upstairs, downstairs, and annexes, surprised to find that the members of the Duke’s family were not sleeping in; they were all up at this time, just still dressing up in their rooms, when they were all knocked over by the spores, either lying in a pile of high-quality, velvet textiles or face down on their dressing tables.
There were also two children, one five or six years old and the other six or seven, who were likely putting on trousers, sitting on chairs, when they lost consciousness after getting one leg in; they had slipped from the chairs onto the ground, encumbered by the servants.
Ye Nai collected all the people into her Space and then released them onto the grassland of the large garden, waking them up but leaving them in rigid paralysis, unable to speak, only able to breathe.
Then, under their wide-eyed, intense scrutiny, she singled out the oldest pair of a man and woman, and removed the constraints on their speech.
“Are you awake now, both of you? I have a few questions,” she said.
“Who are you?” the old man barked, “I am Duke Akeley of the Selsa United Kingdom, and who might you be? How dare you intrude into Duke’s Main City uninvited? Are you in cohorts with that group from a few days ago?”
