Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi-Chapter 139: Let’s Go Hunting (10)
The hunters didn’t have time to mourn their teammate; all they could do was drive their vehicles around the herd of bison, circling them continuously, engaging in a mobile battle to exhaust the bison, especially the injured ones who, after a few minutes of frenzy, would collapse to the ground, unable to even stand.
It was at this moment that Ye Nai acted, claiming a young bull that had been shot three times and whose head hung limply on the ground, and then she retreated the way she had come.
She wasn’t greedy; claiming two bison could still be justified as her own shots, but more would be hard to explain.
Immersed in their own tactics and busy circling the herd, the other hunters didn’t notice that two of the grueling catches had been lost.
Ye Nai did not ride a motorcycle, relying solely on her legs to sprint until the crackling static noise from the walkie-talkie caused her to stop. She picked a spot at random, took out an excavator to dig a large hole, scattered some wild grass and branches inside, and pretended it was a trap used multiple times before.
Then, she fetched a forklift and trailer, set up the forklift pallet, and first made sure the two bison were settled; their wounds beyond help, she just wrapped the injuries extensively with gauze and bandages.
Next, she picked one large and two small from among seventeen male wild boars and placed them similarly on the pallet, positioning them at both ends of the trailer, away from the bison.
Only then did she leisurely pick up the walkie-talkie and press the talk button.
"Hello, anyone there? I’ve found the bison herd; come give me a hand, will you?"
"Back up? What did you do? Did you take action?"
"No, other hunters got there first. I was away from the battlefield setting traps, caught some wild boar and a bison that got shot."
"...What?!" a chorus of incredulous voices came through the walkie-talkie.
"Do you believe me?"
"Guess whether I have a pregnant female bison with a minor gunshot wound here?" Ye Nai wasn’t worried about their disbelief.
Again, a chorus of gasps could be heard through the walkie-talkie.
"Stay put, be safe! We’re tracing your radio signal!"
"Alrighty~"
Ye Nai released spores to set up a defensive line a kilometer away; she could react in time whether it was people or mutant beasts and plants appearing, and controlled some spores to rotate around her to prevent any fast-moving mutants from breaking through her defensive circle.
She sat in the shadow on the other side of the trailer, set up a portable table, took out an outdoor power supply and an induction cooker, and started boiling water to heat up steamed buns.
Before the water boiled, an alarm was triggered; the group of hunters who had been hunting the bison was heading her way, with an angered bison herd chasing behind them.
Ye Nai quickly stashed everything into Space, pulled out a motorcycle, and swiftly ran to the side.
Riding a motorcycle would reveal her location, but that was precisely her intention.
If those hunters didn’t chase after her, no problem, but if they did, she was ready to lead them on a chase.
The off-road vehicles escaping for their lives weren’t far from Ye Nai, and with an Awakener among them, she was spotted the moment she moved.
"Look, there’s a motorcycle in that direction!"
The person in the passenger seat in the lead vehicle indeed had sharp eyes and spotted the movement not far ahead.
"Are you sure it’s a motorcycle?"
"It’s a motorcycle, a new model," the person pointed to their eyes, "Such a flashy color is very noticeable on this plain."
"If it’s a person, draw them over!" the team captain ordered sternly from the back seat.
The driver adjusted the direction, chasing after the traces left by the motorcycles.
The person in the passenger seat yelled through the vehicle’s radio for the cars behind to keep up.
This hunting trip had not gone smoothly; although buffalo were highly profitable, their team of over thirty people had failed to take one down. Now, pursued by an angry herd, if they didn’t escape, their whole team would literally fulfill the oath to die on the same year, month, and day.
As soon as the convoy gave chase, Ye Nai knew it. She immediately turned the motorcycle around, braked, and with a foot on the ground, stopped.
She released the ready spores, and within a few seconds, controlled all the people in the four pursuing vehicles. However, the speeding vehicles couldn’t stop and crashed directly into the space Ye Nai had opened.
The pursuing buffalo herd also collapsed from the spores. Ye Nai didn’t capture them but let them sleep in the bushes for a while to cool off.
Ye Nai walked among the herd but didn’t see any injured buffalo.
She rode her motorcycle back the way she came and saw the off-road vehicles of the previous squad and the dead team members. The overturned vehicle had flipped over again, leaving no survivors inside. In the surrounding bushes, there were also two wrecked vehicles and several corpses.
It looked like they all wanted to run but couldn’t escape.
Moving closer, Ye Nai saw the buffalo injured by that squad licking their wounds scattered east and west, not far with two that had died, both lying in large pools of blood—evidently, fatal hits causing excessive blood loss led to their deaths.
Seeing another detestable biped approach, the injured buffalo, despite trembling limbs, all struggled to stand, bowed their heads, and faced Ye Nai with their horns, choosing death over submission.
Ye Nai, scared, didn’t dare leave the motorcycle. She gripped the throttle tightly with her right hand while scattering a handful of spores with her left to heal them.
She had come back because she didn’t want to waste this rare practical healing experience.
She now had the theory but was sorely lacking in practical experience. Lately, she had only experimented with causing immense pain on humans, genuinely healing only occasionally.
The opportunity was too good to miss.
The fully alert buffalo, feeling their bodies heal, visibly paused, glanced at Ye Nai once, twice, three times, hesitantly eased their aggressive stance, and lay down again to lick their wounds.
Ye Nai made no movement; she focused entirely on how the Fungus within the buffalo bodies was healing them.
The healing principle was simple—using the old saying, "The fat use their flesh; the lean use their lives." The Fungus stimulated the buffalo’s recovery, consuming large amounts of fat, repairing torn blood vessels, organs, bones, muscles, and fur, and promoting and accelerating the healing of wounds.
The bullets lodged within their wounds were also pushed out bit by bit by the regenerating muscles, falling to the ground.
One by one, the buffalo became leaner and their wounds healed, changing the tense atmosphere. They rose and nodded at Ye Nai from a distance, one after the other, passing her, following the scent of the earlier herd.
Ye Nai collected the two dead buffalo into her space as her deserved healing remuneration.
As the herd moved away, Ye Nai’s walkie-talkie rang out.
"Xiao Yezi, we’ve arrived, where are you?"

"I’m at the site of the man-buffalo battle, just picked up two buffalo that died from excessive blood loss."
"What? You found them just like that? What about that group of hunters?"
"That group totally failed, pursued by the buffalo herd, I don’t know where they ran off to."
"Okay, okay, stay away from that scene, carnivorous animals and plants must be flocking there sniffing the blood scent. Be careful, we’ll be there soon."
Ye Nai stuck out her tongue, rode her motorcycle out of the area heavy with the smell of blood, and released her forklift and trailer.
