Endless World: The Rise of Leonard Lawson-Chapter 227: Self-Reflection
"Crown Prince," Curtis held his whip to the side and greeted Leonard respectfully.
And with Curtis’ greeting, Ted’s emotion completely crumbled.
"A man like him, who is willing to suffer to stay quiet despite being lustful, usually means two things. He has a family being held hostage, or my fourth brother got materials to blackmail him." Leonard calmly said.
Instantly, Ted’s body shivered in fear.
The fact that Leonard got it right immediately made him realize the Crown Prince was far scarier than the Fourth Prince.
However, his fear was only the beginning.
As Curtis promptly grabbed a comfortable chair for Leonard to sit, the latter continued to explain his deduction.
"I’m going to go ahead and eliminate the blackmail materials. Given your conduct, I doubt you would care about some blackmail materials that could put you in jail. So it can only be family... and following the usual cliche, I suppose it’s a little sister, right?" Leonard curled his lips upward.
His sly grin broke Ted’s mentality. His head lowered, and sweat continued to form around his forehead.
"Bingo!" Leonard smirked and snapped his finger.
"Crown Prince." Curtis knelt on one knee and waited for the order. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Mobilize the Crimson Guards to search for this man’s little sister. Once you find her, capture her and put her in a lovely dark cage. I’m sure she would be delighted."
"Understood, Crown Prince!" Curtis received the order and nodded.
Just when Curtis was about to signal for the rest outside to make the move, Ted finally spoke up.
"No, wait, I’ll talk!" Ted moved his arms around, causing the shackles to emit some sounds.
"Eh, I’m not interested in hearing from you anymore." Leonard yawned.
He had already deduced and got confirmation based on his reaction. There was no need to converse with him further and waste time on this matter.
"Fourth Brother probably wanted you to kill or injure Mirelle so that her Mentor would pin the blame on me. Not a bad scheme, but ultimately, you underestimated her power." He stood up and made a slicing neck gesture.
Curtis placed his hand on his chest and bowed.
Sometime later, Leonard exited the room, which was soon followed by the sound of a slashing sound.
There was no screaming, granted that Ted’s mouth had been covered.
Leonard’s expression remained indifferent despite hearing the sound.
If Ted were to succeed in the scheme, then he would be the one in endless trouble. No matter what Ted’s reason was, or whether he succeeded or not, death was his only end.
His Fourth Brother would definitely not leave someone like Ted alive once the deed was done.
By killing Ted personally, it would create a misconception in his Fourth Brother that he stayed silent.
A few seconds later, Curtis came out of the room with his sword dipped in some blood.
"Try your best to see if you can rescue the man’s little sister," Leonard said before heading away.
Curtis didn’t say anything else and simply turned to the nearby Crimson Guards. He signaled them to make a move on it.
Once that was done, he promptly returned to the upper level, only to see Leonard standing near the railing in a daze.
It was still raining outside, and the streets were nearly empty.
’Crown Prince must have been exhausted.’ Curtis thought to himself. Thinking of the past when they left the capital, the Crown Prince was still lively and quite comical. But now, it seemed that the Crown Prince had lost his joy and was carrying loads of burden on his back.
It was hard to imagine that only some months had gone by and the Crown Prince had changed so drastically.
Unwilling to disturb Leonard’s moment, Curtis stealthily stood by the side to guard him.
Unfortunately, his stealth movement still got detected by Leonard’s perception.
"Do you think I’m a good Crown Prince, Curtis?" Leonard extended his hand and allowed some of the rain to fall into his palm.
"Every decision I make, whether big or small, would inadvertently change a person’s life. I don’t know how many of these changes were right and how many of them were incorrect."
"I’m just a shield, but I only know one thing. The Crown Prince’s decision is the finale." Curtis knelt on one knee and continued, "As long as the Crown Prince decides on something. The rest of the Crimson Guards would obey it."
Upon hearing that, Leonard no longer spoke. He had anticipated this kind of response already.
Which subordinate would dare to openly disobey or go against their superiors?
Even if they held such a mindset, they would never speak it aloud.
’It really is lonely to be in this position.’ He gazed at the pouring rain, which seemed unbothered by the place it landed on. Maybe this was why he appreciated Ellie’s presence.
She would speak her mind freely and was unrestricted by the political situation.
In a sense, Ellie does resemble his deceased little sister in the old world.
Plink!
Unknowingly, Leonard had a small tear drop to the ground.
Same position, different world.
He was once again facing the same situation where he must carefully walk his path to avoid any more unnecessary sacrifices.
"Tomorrow... once the rain stops. It’s time for departure." Leonard softly spoke. Having received a letter from the capital, it was evident that he could no longer stall any longer.
To stay in Velastra by claiming to take control of the economic capital had always been a deceiving lie to himself. He simply wished to avoid the complex political war in the capital.
After all, he was also human. A human who could also be hurt and killed.
’Fourth Brother’s people have been eliminated. I suppose it must have been the work of the mastermind behind Jeff’s deployment, Seth.’ Leonard gazed at the far distance in which the capital was located.
His return was probably going to be even more perilous than his experience in Velastra. "In the end, I still have to return to fight against my brothers for power."
