Chapter 956: Chapter 994: An Oath Is Not Made Lightly

Kong’s father said, "Alice, I’m sorry to you and your mother. The mistakes I’ve made now require you both to suffer with me."

Alice’s eyes moistened, "Dad, the ones you owe the most are Kyle Kinston’s parents. Mom and I are still alive, but they already..." Alice couldn’t go on.

"Alice, don’t say any more. You should get some rest. Think not only for yourself but also for the child in your belly," Mabel Quinn said, "We’ll figure something out about your father, as for Kyle..."

"I’ll go talk to Kyle," Dorian Howards said, "At least I can try to understand what he’s thinking."

"But... will he be willing to let my dad go?" Alice asked worriedly. She couldn’t bear the thought of never seeing her father again; she didn’t want her father to be lonely for the rest of his life, nor her mother crying daily in the future.

"I’ll try," Dorian said, though without confidence. After all, Mabel had likely already tried to persuade Kyle, but since Alice’s father still had to leave, it was clear Mabel hadn’t succeeded.

Seeing Alice’s worried eyes, Dorian bent down and gently embraced her, "Alice, no matter what happens, I will protect you and your family. My marriage vow wasn’t made lightly."

Alice’s nose tingled with emotion. Marrying a man who loved her so much was perhaps the best decision she’d ever made.

Dorian looked at his friend in front of him, feeling a multitude of emotions. "I heard you’ve been staying at the hotel near the Corporation these days?"

"Yes," Kyle Kinston replied casually, "You didn’t just call me out to ask about this, did you?"

At that moment, the two were in a private room in a club, with a table full of dishes, but neither had started eating. Kyle absentmindedly swirled the red wine in his goblet, sipping it while waiting for Dorian to continue.

Dorian said, "I’ve learned about my father-in-law’s situation. Sometimes, this world is indeed small; people go around and still end up meeting."

"It is small indeed. I didn’t realize that the missed connections between my parents weren’t fate but man-made," Kyle said.

"He never intended for such consequences. It’s been many years, Kyle. I’ve never asked you for anything in my life; consider this my only request. Please let him go. He’s Alice’s father. I can’t bear to see her family fall apart," Dorian said.

Kyle’s expression darkened, "So you came today to plead for your father-in-law?"

Dorian remained silent, which implied his agreement.

Kyle said, "Dorian, you know about the Kinston Family’s Blood Curse, so you should understand what my mother meant to my father. When my mother left my father, it was a death sentence for him! And my mother’s departure was meant to seek justice for someone she thought was dead, as punishment for my father. But that person is still alive! Tell me, what was the point of everything my mother did? She even lost her life in the end! Tell me!" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

But Dorian didn’t know what to say. He knew his father-in-law was at fault. Over the years, he had rarely seen Kyle so agitated, and what shocked him even more was the heaviness in his friend’s eyes.
