"No, it’s my dad. He’s going on a business trip, supposedly for a year. My mom, Dorian, and I are going to the airport to see him off," Alice said.

Mabel was shocked to hear this, "Is your dad really leaving?"

"What do you mean by ’really’ or ’not really’?" Alice laughed, "I am quite reluctant for my dad to be away for so long, but my dad said this opportunity is hard to come by, and he’ll take leave to come back when my baby is born. My mom said that dad has worked for so many years and it’s almost time for retirement, so let this be his final burst of effort."

But Mabel was anxious to the core; she knew this wasn’t merely a business trip, but Alice’s father was about to leave the Conley family for good, fulfilling his promise to Kyle.

"Mabel, why do you look so pale?" Alice asked.

Mabel hurriedly walked out of the office, went to the corridor, and dialed Alice’s father’s number. Soon, the call was picked up.

"Is this Mabel?" Alice’s father’s voice came through the phone.

"It’s me, Uncle. I heard from Alice that you’re planning to leave tomorrow?" Mabel said.

"Yes, leaving tomorrow. I’ve already bought the plane tickets. Actually, it’s been delayed for several days. Initially, I promised Mr. Kinston that I would leave right after Alice’s wedding, but...I couldn’t help but delay until Alice’s honeymoon ended to catch a few more glimpses of her before leaving," Alice’s father said, his voice heavy with helplessness.
