Alice Conley had just finished shooting a few scenes and walked up to Mabel Quinn, asking, "What was up with my dad just now?"

"I don’t know," Mabel replied. "He asked me if Kyle had mentioned him, so I asked if there was something going on between him and Kyle, and then your dad suddenly had a huge reaction."

"My dad seems to have been a little on edge lately. Last night, he even told me to learn to take care of myself in the future, not to be capricious, and to care more about my mom, like he was giving some sort of... you know." Alice avoided using the words "last words," adding, "My mom said it’s because he’s about to marry off a daughter, so he’s acting strange. But why did he bring up Kyle? Is he trying to confirm if Kyle is really going to be the best man?"

As if recalling something, Alice told her friend, "You don’t know, when I told my dad that Mr. Kinston was going to be the best man at my wedding, his expression... oh my, it was downright shocking, totally exaggerated. You’d think for a regular guy like my dad, even if he’s never met anyone high-ranking, he wouldn’t react like this. My mom and I joked about his nerves being worse than ours."

Alice spoke as if telling a joke, but Mabel couldn’t shake a strange feeling as she listened.

By the time filming wrapped up, it was almost dark. Kyle Kinston came directly to the filming site to pick up Mabel Quinn.

Upon seeing Kyle, Alice’s father turned pale again and barely spoke, only responding briefly when someone asked him something.

Kyle merely gave him a faint glance before addressing Mabel, "Are you ready?"

"Yeah, almost. I just need to grab my bag," Mabel said, turning around to head to the locker to retrieve her things.

Meanwhile, Alice’s mother busied herself with putting a coat on her daughter, as Alice’s father nervously walked over to Kyle and whispered, "Mr. Kinston... I... I will leave, but... Alice is about to get married. Can I wait until after her wedding before I... leave..."

Kyle looked at him with icy eyes, "You certainly do cherish and protect your current family."

The remark was piercingly sarcastic, causing Alice’s father to stiffen, opening his mouth but unable to utter a word.

"Then wait until after your daughter’s wedding," Kyle’s voice slowly rose after a moment, his gaze fixed on the approaching Mabel, using a voice only the two of them could hear, "considering your daughter once helped Mabel."

Alice’s father trembled slightly.

By this time, Mabel had approached, and Kyle asked, "Ready to go?"

"Yes." Mabel said goodbye to the Conley family and Dorian Howards before getting into the car with Kyle.

"What were you talking about with Alice’s dad just now?"

"Nothing much, just a few words about his daughter’s wedding," Kyle replied.

"I think you were right earlier; Alice’s dad does seem quite afraid of you," Mabel said. "I got that feeling today too, but I wonder what exactly he’s afraid of?"
