Either E Or S Class: I Will Kill All Vampires.-Chapter 36: Ch : The Gala [4].
He immediately pushed the door, entering and clicking it slowly behind him as he slumped to the floor.
For about a minute after entering the archive room he ignored the world all around him, from the consistent beeping of machines to the humming of computer fans.
His eyes were just completely shut— but then he heard it.
When his eyes were shut and his breathing slowed down and controlled— his hearing kicked in.
~Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.~
The slow rhythmic beating of a human heart.
There was someone else in the room with him.
’Oh, fuck.’
He kicked off the floor, turned towards the figure.
Arms raised at first but as he saw who it was his fists unfolded and his brows arched.
Zack Wilson.
The lead scientist of their division and yet so unnoticeable that no one saw him slip away, past security and into the room he’d jump through hoops to enter.
Levi walked to speak, to question him but every time he opened his mouth the words died in his throat.
Instead, he yanked off his champagne soaked blazer, tossed in onto the floor as he paced the tiny space furiously.
Rubbing his temple and muttering numerous things to himself.
Zack just stood in the corner, hands stiff by his side and sweat beading his forehead and upper lip.
Levi finally stopped. Letting out a sigh.
"Please tell me you have a good reason for being here Zack."
Zack stuttered over his words, his lips now visibly quivering in fear, "Uh-uh... I’m here because of uhmm..."
Levi turned to his with a brow up and his hands on his waist, "Are you working for the Network?"
"What? No," Zack denied, "That’s absurd. I’m here because there’s still a lot I don’t know about this division even after everything I’ve done for it."
Levi’s expression changed into something else entirely.
"So let’s run this down... You’re telling me, you’re trespassing, committing espionage and other things I don’t even have the name for...
Because you just want to know?"
Zack took off his glasses, wiping the smudge off the lenses with the hem of his vest.
"I’m a scientist, so yes, I don’t like not knowing what exactly is happening around me and if I don’t, it gets very uncomfortable for me."
Levi walked to the wall, leaning back against the cold surface and giving himself a moment for the sweat to disperse him.
Zack placed his glasses back on the ridge of his nose, "so... Why are you here?"
His eyes shot open.
"Technically we’re here for the said thing, we both want to find out more."
Both their heads finally turned to the vault-like door taking about two-thirds of the room.
Reaching from ceiling to floor, fully reaching both sides of the wall, reflective surface that looked like titanium, and intricate designs running all over it.
The humming and computer fans that Levi heard earlier were all coming from within this structure.
The only thing that showed signs of entry was the protruding panel.
It beeped red repeatedly.
They walked up to it, feeling the red light bounce onto their faces.
Levi turned to Zack while pointing at the panel, "so what was your plan to get into this?"
Zack used a finger to push his glasses up, "Uhmm... I didn’t have any clue that this was here per say."
Levi rolled his eyes, walking even closer to the panel before taking off the ring and squeezing the top above the panel.
Causing Mr Manhattan’s blood stored in the ring to drip down onto the panel.
’Please, fucking work.’
He held his breath hitch.
The once red panel finally flashed green as a heavy hiss of the door moving and the numerous bolts within the mechanism drew back in unison.
The door only opened a fraction of the way making Levi pull the ton heavy door all the way to the side.
As the hatch opened the fluorescent lights within lit up simultaneously.
Revealing—
A computer.
Levi’s eyelids drooped, his shoulders instantly slacked and his expression sour all in a second.
’This is it? That’s it? After everything I’ve done to get here and that’s it? Just a fucking computer?’
He cursed before stepping in.
But it was indeed anticlimactic— just a computer, placed on a regular wooden desk beside a regular wooden chair.
He moved in— cautiously, half expecting a trapped door somewhere or lasers but that was just it... It was just a computer.
Zack didn’t hesitate before settling into the chair and sliding the screen open, booting up the system.
As the system loaded up he turned to Levi whose eyes were still scanning the room.
"Uhmm, I don’t think there’s anything around here."
Levi sighed, rubbing his eyes before moving to join Zack behind the desk.
As the computer finally booted up, it required a password.
Which made them both face each other momentarily then turning back to the system.
Zack began typing random things that could be the password,
"Lightbourne Unit Of Xenothreats."
[Password Incorrect.]
"The Darwin Project."
[Password Incorrect.]
"The Network."
[Password Incorrect.]
"..."
And all others until one finally opened it.
"Nikolai Munroe."
[Password Correct.]
The system’s bright light illuminates their faces as Levi tapped on the side of the monitor where he wanted Zack to move the cursor to and he obliged.
Into the documents as numerous ominously named files lined up the screen.
They scrolled up and down through the files before Levi finally saw it.
The files named "The resistant families."
His eyes widened as he slid Zack’s fingers off the computer, moving the cursor himself as the tension built up within him.
He tapped on the file.
> The Kanes.
> The Sinclairs.
> The Bishops.
> The Davenports.
> The Hayes.
He moved for the Kanes file.
> Levi Kane.
> Ivery Kane.
> Jamie Kane.
> Ethan Kane. [ Deceased.]
> Claire Kane. [Deceased.]
---
His fingers froze as he saw the file open, it said at the side that his parents were deceased which means that his brother and sister weren’t... At least not yet.
He frantically moved back for the keyboard but Zack stopped him.
"Look, we can check this later... For now we need to get out of here."
Levi shot him down, "How? We can’t take the system so how are we supposed to check it later."
Zack unbuckled the straps of his wristwatch, pulling out one strap to reveal a flash drive mouth.
He shoved it into the USB port and started copying the files into the drive.
He then turned to Levi, "uhmm... What’s the escape plan?"
Levi could feel his stomach churn within him.
’oh fuuuck!"
