Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 415: Final Right of Interpretation
Wu Yongfei and Ge Sujuan interlocked their fingers, smiled at each other, then looked at the head of the team and said seriously, "Okay, Uncle, we’ll definitely live well!"
The head of the team nodded approvingly and turned to leave.
Yi Chichi also wanted to pull Wen Shi along to say goodbye, but Ge Sujuan blocked her way.
"Chichi, let’s have a little chat, and Nannan should join too."
The two named were taken aback, nodded, and agreed.
So, Wen Shi and Bai Chen were left behind, and Yi Chichi and Wang Nan were dragged into the room by Ge Sujuan.
The red double happiness character and the red pillows embroidered with mandarin ducks spoke of festivities.
However, after closing the door, Ge Sujuan took a few deep breaths and suddenly rushed over to grab their hands, saying, "What should I do, I’m so scared!"
This nonsensical line left Yi Chichi and Wang Nan bewildered.
Afraid on their wedding night?
Where did this fear come from?
"You just did so well out there, what are you afraid of?"
Wang Nan, unwilling to beat around the bush, asked directly.
Yi Chichi’s ears perked up, initially thinking it was just nerves, but then she heard, "Aunt Ma and the others say it really hurts."
"What exactly hurts..."
Yi Chichi, realizing something was off, widened her eyes in disbelief and asked Ge Sujuan, "Aunt Ma and the others really told you about this?"
Isn’t this talk a bit too over-the-top for distant relatives and neighbors?
"The topic went way overboard, Aunties."
Wang Nan also caught on, but her reaction wasn’t much better than Yi Chichi’s, though her focus was different.
"How come the Aunties didn’t tell me these things when I got married."
She seemed rather regretful.
Ge Sujuan was speechless, "The situations are different."
She never expected that a piece of clothing would lead to such a mess, then to be given a special lesson by the Aunties.
Thinking of how indiscreet the Aunties were, a blush spread across her cheeks.
Seeing her like this, Yi Chichi understood that it was definitely the Aunties’ oversized scale of the topic that made Ge Sujuan nervous.
As a married woman, especially one from an era post-information explosion, Yi Chichi didn’t find anything to be afraid of in this.
So, her answer was, "Pain varies from person to person. I’m not sure of your body type, but the only thing I can tell you is that you can guide Old Witch to take care of you during the process."
Ge Sujuan instantly understood her words without a teacher, and the blush on her face spread wider, yet she still managed to ask with embarrassment, "Guiding will avoid the pain?"
This question was truly brilliant.
Too brilliant, prompting Yi Chichi to roll her eyes, "Being cared for is better than not being cared for."
Wang Nan agreed, chiming in, "Chichi’s right. Just do it as she said."
That’s about as much as they could genuinely help with.
After all, it’s Ge Sujuan and Wu Yongfei who would be alone, and they couldn’t possibly shamelessly stay behind to observe on-site, could they?
Even if they were willing, Ge Sujuan and Wu Yongfei wouldn’t be.
Ge Sujuan sighed, "...I’ll try."
That was it.
Yi Chichi patted her shoulder, "Wishing you a happy marriage!"
Wang Nan followed up, "Be happy!"
"Mm, I’ll do my best."
Ge Sujuan’s spirits lifted, and the blush on her face faded away, passing the time of embarrassment and returning to her usual self.
Very nice.
So, Yi Chichi and Wang Nan left at ease.
On the way back, Wen Shi was still reminiscing about Wu Yongfei’s pig ears salad, "Old Witch’s pig head dish was really delicious!"
Yi Chichi’s immediate response was—
"We don’t have pig heads at home, but there is some roe deer meat."
Previously, when Wen Shi and Dongzi went to set some traps, they caught some snow rabbits and a dumb roe deer.
They hadn’t finished the roe deer meat yet, with over ten pounds still left.
"How about making some roe deer for you?"
"What about the medicinal stew?"
"We can still eat that, but it doesn’t stop you from having the roe deer."
"Alright, when we get back, you teach me, I’ll cook."
However, Wen’s mother was a pro at making roe deer meat, there was no need for Yi Chichi to teach, nor for Wen Shi to step in.
But he had to handle the meat and ingredients and tend the fire by the stove.
When Wen’s mother said high flame, he had to make it high, and when she said low flame, he’d have to take away some wood.
Busy, he complained, "I might as well just stir-fry the dishes."
Wen’s mother, with no patience, quipped back, "Your stir-frying isn’t as good as mine."
Wen Shi looked towards Yi Chichi, who was leaning against the doorframe with her needlework, and at Qin Jiu, reading a children’s book nearby, and loudly sought agreement, "Honey Xiao Jiu, isn’t my cooking tasty?"
"Not as good as mom’s (grandma’s)."
In unison, with perfect harmony.
Wen Shi, "..."
These two, really family, always hitting him where it hurts.
Just then, Big Orange walked by, and he scooped the cat into his arms, smothering it with kisses, "Orange, at least you’re good."
The cat, Big Orange, who seldom spoke, gave him a quick slap on the face, stunning Wen Shi. As his hands loosened, Big Orange leapt from his arms, running over to Yi Chichi with a meow and a howl of complaint.
It might even be cursing him.
Anyway, from the sound of its cries, it seemed very angry.
"He’s a childish kid, and you’re a mature and stable big cat with a generous heart, Big Orange. Don’t stoop to his level."
Wen Shi protested, "I’m the one who got hit, can’t you sympathize a bit with me, dear?"
Yi Chichi sighed, it was hard to feel sorry for him.
Why did you have to provoke Big Orange for no reason?
"Xiao Jiu, get Big Orange a fish treat."
Just like Da Li, Big Orange was sensitive to food and could understand the phrase "fish treat" twice over.
Upon hearing this, it perked up, gave a nasal chirp towards her, and then nudged her before running to Qin Jiu’s side, urging him to fetch the fish treat quickly.
Qin Jiu, also feeling peckish, asked, "Aunt, can I have a big shrimp?"
"Sure!"
And so, one person and one cat cheered and went for their snacks.
Wen Shi wanted to say to get one for himself, but Wen’s mother called out, "High flame."
Fine, he might as well just stick to his role as the fire-tender.
Snacks could wait until before bed.
The plan was perfect, but the harsh truth was, there would be no snacks before bed.
Because his wife firmly opposed it.
"You just had your medicinal stew two hours ago, snacks are not allowed."
"It’s been days since I had seafood, I’m kinda craving it."
Wen Shi hugged her with grievance and tried to act cute, but Yi Chichi remained unmoved, "Be good, wait until you get back and have your fill, don’t even think about it now, it could affect the stew’s effects."
Wen Shi tilted his head to look at her, as if trying to judge if she was lying to him.
Yi Chichi wasn’t fazed, her stew, her ultimate authority.
Wen Shi, "Alright, I’ll behave."
"Mm."
Yi Chichi patted his head, "Honey, can you bring me that big pack of threads?"
"Sure."
Wen Shi put on his shoes, jogged over, and fetched the pack of threads.
"Honey, what are you doing?"
"Sorting the threads, we’ve run out of the previous ones, need to prepare anew."
As she spoke, she untied the cotton wrapping around the threads, revealing strands of variously colored silk threads glimmering faintly under the dim light.
She picked up one of the large bundles, unwrapped it, and Wen Shi counted, finding there were 20 small bundles.
And his wife had already begun braiding one of the small bundles.
