Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 312: Claustrophobia
"Is there a... any problem?"
"There is a problem."
Yi Chichi answered without hesitation. Not only is there a problem, it’s a big one.
After instructing Ji Jian to take care of herself, she quickly walked into the crowd.
"When you guys were pulling this thing up, were there any boats nearby?"
The two men who were getting off the boat with the item exchanged a glance and shook their heads simultaneously.
"No, we were originally setting nets to catch fish, but ended up pulling up this thing."
As he spoke, the man with a scruffy beard asked Yi Chichi, "Comrade, what exactly is this?"
Yi Chichi... truth be told, she also wanted to know how something like this could appear in this era.
If the fishermen had fished up a torpedo, she wouldn’t have been so shocked.
If she remembered correctly, the earliest Chinese fishermen pulled up a torpedo in 1978, as for sonar...
She couldn’t recall the exact date.
"It’s a good thing."
Not knowing how to explain, she could only give an ambiguous answer.
"How good is it?"
The fisherman was visibly unhappy, looking more and more disdainfully at the spherical, winged, elongated object they had pulled up, feeling like they wasted their time.
They hadn’t caught a single fish but pulled up two pieces of scrap instead.
However, immediately after, his disdain for the strange objects vanished, and he felt it wasn’t a total loss.
Just because Yi Chichi said—
"The military will buy this."
In other words: This thing can be exchanged for money.
The fisherman cracked a smile but still sought confirmation with some disbelief, "Comrade, are you sure the military will accept these two things?"
It wasn’t a situation that warranted further explanation, so Yi Chichi pulled out her trump card.
"Wait here, I’ll call someone to buy it."
Worried they wouldn’t believe her and might sell it to a recycling station, Yi Chichi revealed her identity, "My husband is in the military. You must wait for me, I’ll be right back, okay?"
Hearing that she was a military spouse, the fishermen’s worries eased.
"Alright."
And so, after getting a nod from Ji Jian, Yi Chichi sprinted off.
Originally intending to go to the regiment headquarters, she encountered Wen Shi leading a team halfway, and she felt a surge of happiness, quickly running over, "Old Wen, it seems the fishermen have pulled up something remarkable."
Seeing her in a fluster, thinking something had happened, Wen Shi was about to ask, but upon hearing her words, he let out a sound, "What did the fishermen pull up?"
"I don’t know, but it looks a bit strange."
As she spoke, she detailed the appearance of the two sonar devices and concluded, "My intuition tells me those two objects are important."
Wen Shi... his wife’s intuition was quite uncanny.
It warranted some belief.
After pondering for two seconds, he waved, "Two of you come with me to have a look, the rest proceed to the target."
"Yes!"
Two members of the team stepped out, while the rest departed collectively.
Then, Yi Chichi and Wen Shi led the two soldiers towards the harbor.
"Wife, what do you think those two things are?"
"I don’t know."
Even if she knew, she couldn’t say.
As someone who hasn’t even left the country or served in the military, there’s no channel for her to know these things.
If she foolishly spoke, she’d be unable to explain.
Wen Shi’s forehead was full of black lines, "Aren’t you afraid your intuition will be wrong?"
"Think of Zhang Yin."
Wen Shi was rendered silent by her words; were it not for Zhang Yin, he wouldn’t have crossed paths with his wife.
Even if he went back to Kao Shan Village, they’d only nod if they encountered each other.
The chances of any meaningful interaction were negligible.
"By the way, why are you going to the dock?"
"I heard the performance troupe is coming."
The two soldiers immediately cast a sympathetic glance at Wen Shi, nothing more needed to be said, sister-in-law must have known that the troupe had someone who used to pursue their deputy leader.
She wanted to see who it was.
Realizing the looks of the two, Wen Shi felt a bit guilty, but then again, he hadn’t done anything wrong, so there was no need to feel guilty.
He stated boldly, "I once made Comrade Bai cry, wife, you have to believe me, I’m innocent."
The soldiers, "..."
This timid person, are they sure he’s the deputy leader who dares to retort, even at his superiors?
Yi Chichi helplessly said, "I didn’t say you were guilty, I was just curious and wanted to have a look."
"Did you see them?"
"Not yet."
Wen Shi made a noise, encouraging her, "In my heart, you are the best, and the prettiest, no one can compare to you."
He said this in a low voice.
Passersby didn’t hear it, but Yi Chichi and the two soldiers did.
The three exchanged a glance and simultaneously rubbed their arms.
Wen Shi’s face darkened, "What are you implying?"
Yi Chichi, "My arms are a bit itchy."
The two soldiers, "Our arms are a bit sore."
Finding similar excuses, Wen Shi was both angry and amused, and chose to say nothing as they rushed forward.
He had long legs, and Yi Chichi wasn’t short, so keeping up wasn’t difficult for her.
The two soldiers, however, weren’t so lucky. One was about 165cm tall, the other possibly just over 160, their legs indeed were short.
Keeping up was taxing.
They ended up almost jogging.
"Slow down."
Yi Chichi softly spoke.
Wen Shi gave an "Oh," slowing his pace as he spoke to one of the smaller soldiers, "Xiao Kang, are you sure you can overcome that dark training?"
"Deputy leader, I can."
Afraid of being kicked out, Xiao Kang urgently assured, "Deputy, give me more time, and I will definitely overcome the fear."
Yi Chichi pressed her lips together, still unable to hold back, "To what degree is Xiao Kang’s claustrophobia?"
The three froze.
Claustrophobia?
"Dark training is claustrophobia training?"
"Is it training in a closed, narrow, pitch-black space?"
Yi Chichi didn’t answer but instead asked, Wen Shi brightened up, "Wife, do you understand this?"
"Yes!"
This she really understood.
She looked around to ensure no one was paying them any attention, and whispered, "Is Xiao Kang to enter the submarine?"
Their height was just perfect for equipment like submarines, tanks, and fighter jets.
So excellent.
"Yes."
Wen Shi nodded, "Can this be overcome?"
"I need to see to properly evaluate."
Xiao Kang looked hopeful and called out to the deputy leader, Wen Shi reassured, "No rush, let’s deal with the current matter first before tackling your issue."
Mainly because outside wasn’t the best place for such discussions.
Xiao Kang nodded agreeably.
Soon, they reached the dock.
The impatient fishermen, seeing Yi Chichi actually bring three soldiers, finally felt relief.
"Comrade, over here."
He waved excitedly, as Yi Chichi led Wen Shi and the others through the crowd, and as they passed by Ji Jian, she shot a glare, reiterating that she shouldn’t squeeze into the crowd. Yet, here she was, having pushed her way in.
"Come here."
Grabbing her arm, Yi Chichi kept her by her side.
Ji Jian offered a flattering smile, trailing closely behind her.
Meanwhile, Wen Shi had already squatted down, examining the sonar, engaging the fishermen in conversation to understand the situation.
Ji Jian stood beside, whispering, "Xiao Yi, what is this?"
"I don’t know."
Yi Chichi repeated, "Let’s see what Wen Shi and the others say."
Ji Jian glanced at the fishermen, thinking to herself, hopefully, it wouldn’t just be a false alarm, otherwise, it would be quite a blow to them.
