Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 234: Broken Tooth
"Weren’t you going to find Lanlan?"
Uncle Yaozi shifted the topic and looked at Yi Chichi.
"I’ll go after sorting out the herbs."
Liu Lanren had already returned, so they could meet anytime, and there was no rush.
Seeing that she was not in a hurry, Uncle Yaozi didn’t say more and squatted down to help her sort out the herbs.
Zhang Xiaoqin didn’t leave either. Instead, she squatted beside and helped out, occasionally asking what this herb was and what that herb was.
Uncle Yaozi thought she was interested in this knowledge, so he shared all he knew without reservation, even explaining the properties of each herb and their applicable symptoms.
Unexpectedly, Zhang Xiaoqin only listened to a few before starting to get drowsy-eyed.
"Dad, stop already, I can’t remember any of it."
Uncle Yaozi paused, "You didn’t remember anything?"
"Nope."
Zhang Xiaoqin said with conviction, without a hint of guilt.
Uncle Yaozi sighed, "It’s like trying to carve a rotten piece of wood."
That one sentence made both of them fall silent.
Yi Chichi and Zhang Xiaoqin exchanged a glance and quietly focused on their work.
Responding was out of the question. After all, they both, in some ways, were like rotten wood too.
So, to avoid trouble, they remained as quiet as chickens.
Time passed by little by little, and finally, the brought-back herbs were sorted and stored in categories.
As for the preparations like processing, that would have to wait until tomorrow.
It certainly couldn’t be done today.
So, after bidding farewell to Uncle Yaozi, Yi Chichi headed home.
On the way, she encountered Qiao Jun, who was being supported by Bai Chen and Qi Yang. This guy was really in a sorry state, face pale, lips dry and cracked, one eye swollen, leaving only a slit, and his lips had turned into sausage lips.
His clothes were torn, with a cut here and a gap there.
One of his feet had a shoe, while the other was bare, and the bare foot was swollen like a pig’s trotter, along with a swollen ankle.
Yi Chichi’s eyes suddenly widened, "What happened to you?"
"Got stung by bees."
Qiao Jun didn’t have the energy to speak, only squinting with his one good eye to glance at him, then lowering his head, looking utterly hopeless.
Bai Chen was the one who answered.
"Are there wild bees in the field?"
This couldn’t be, usually wild bees appear in forests or under eaves and trees in farmyards.
Never heard of them being in farmland.
It might be possible in spring and summer when wildflowers and blossoming vegetables at the edges might attract bees to gather nectar.
But now it’s the harvest season, with big temperature differences between day and night, and soon we’ll need to wear cotton-padded clothes.
"No."
Zhang Yunhao, standing beside, explained helplessly, "He had an urgent need and ran into the woods to relieve himself, then, stupidly, poked a beehive and got stung."
Yi Chichi wasn’t too surprised, instead feeling like this was expected.
Her gaze moved down to his foot, "Twisted your ankle while running away?"
Bai Chen nodded, "Not only that, he also knocked out a tooth."
Yi Chichi couldn’t hold back anymore, "Open your mouth, let me see."
Qiao Jun’s eyes glared over like knives, full of accusation, as if saying how could you be so cold-hearted without any sympathy.
Yi Chichi, understanding his meaning, grinned, "Don’t be shy, let me see how your tooth broke, and if there’s still a chance for rescue."
Before she finished speaking, she remembered something, "By the way, when did he knock out his tooth, and did he pick it back up?"
"I’m asking you."
Bai Chen nudged Qiao Jun, indicating that he should answer himself.
Qiao Jun, his mind filled with the word rescue from Yi Chichi’s words, didn’t care about being ridiculed and replied, "Not long ago, about half an hour, the tooth wasn’t picked up, I thought it was useless."
The knocked-out front tooth caused him to speak with a lisp, resulting in unclear pronunciation.
Yi Chichi looked at his broken tooth, thinking that if it was in the future, they could find it, soak it in milk, and take it to the hospital; there might be a chance to save it.
Not sure if they had this kind of technology in this era.
Anyway, it’s better to first try and find the tooth.
Zhou Yadong offered, "I’ll help him find it; with that foot, he can’t go back."
Tinkering further could be troublesome, and messing around might cause delays.
Yi Chichi nodded and asked Qiao Jun to detail the location of his broken tooth.
Then, Wu Yongfei dashed off like the wind to help find the tooth.
Yi Chichi meanwhile returned to the team medical room with Bai Chen and the others.
Seeing him in this state, Uncle Yaozi was stunned. When he heard about what had happened, he felt like his whole being was collapsing.
What kind of misfortune was this, that this kid could end up in such a mess?
"What were you doing poking a beehive for no reason?"
Qiao Jun looked regretful, "I thought it was an empty hive."
Didn’t even see any bees; who knew poking it would set off a swarm.
Relentless pursuit.
Zhang Xiaoqin stared at his mouth; the broken half of the front tooth was really an eyesore.
She clicked her tongue, "Jun, you’re no longer handsome."
"He’s not a light bulb, can’t shine even if he wants to."
Qi Yang misunderstood the meaning of handsome, thinking Zhang Xiaoqin was talking about brightness, and spoke for justice on his behalf.
Yi Chichi explained, "Qin Qin meant handsome as in a good-looking guy."
Qi Yang suddenly understood, turned to look at Qiao Jun’s swollen face and sausage lips, and thought Zhang Xiaoqin’s attention was a bit off.
This face was much more striking than a half-broken front tooth because, after all, a broken tooth could be hidden by keeping the mouth shut and not speaking, but the face wouldn’t heal anytime soon.
"You should look at his face."
He pointed at Qiao Jun’s face, indicating Zhang Xiaoqin to look.
"Too ugly."
This girl was also straightforward, absolutely refusing to look at Qiao Jun’s face.
Qiao Jun was so angry his hands itched to hit someone, but Uncle Yaozi was treating the wounds on his face, so he dared not challenge Uncle Yaozi’s authority, and could only change the subject to Yi Chichi, "Chichi, if I find my tooth, can it be saved?"
"Don’t know, you need to ask a doctor at the hospital."
She had no technique to reattach his tooth, "What I can do is preserve your tooth, delay the loss of periodontal membrane vitality, and increase the survival rate of replanting."
But there’s a precondition, "We need to find the tooth first."
If it can’t be found, it’s all for nothing.
It would have to be a filling instead; replantation would be out of the question.
The key was whether there was any tooth filling technology in this era, and she wasn’t sure about the quality if there was.
Qiao Jun, "..."
Qiao Jun was disheartened, "I feel like we won’t find it."
"Why?"
"Too much grass."
That indeed was quite a hassle.
Yi Chichi could only comfort him, "Let’s wait and see, what if we find it?"
Regrettably, Wu Yongfei couldn’t find his tooth; the place was too big, the grass too dense, and the light too dim. A tiny half-tooth falling into the woods was like finding a needle in a haystack.
Yi Chichi waited until it was completely dark, and Wu Yongfei finally came back empty-handed.
He said helplessly, "Old Qiao, it’s not that I wasn’t diligent, but I went through that area thoroughly, and truly didn’t see your tooth."
Qiao Jun wasn’t very disappointed, having mentally prepared for it, he accepted it well.
"It’s okay, I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow to see if they can do a filling."
