Educated Youth in the Countryside: She is the Village's Embroidery Queen!-Chapter 136: All Little Heartless Brats
Seeing this, Yi Chichi and the others felt goosebumps all over, and Ge Sujuan rubbed her arms, unable to bear the sight.
"If you’re going to speak, just speak normally. Don’t give us that gross look, it’s creepy!"
Guan Mingyue’s expression froze but quickly returned to normal, wiping away tears.
"Let their parents repay it."
"Their parents have it?"
"Of course they have."
Yi Chichi and the others responded with an "oh," not willing to comment.
Guan Mingyue was surprised for a moment, "Aren’t you guys going to say something?"
"This is something we can’t interfere with, even if we wanted to."
Bai Chen, emphasizing sincerity, calmly said, "So, Old Guan, just handle it as you see fit. We’ll support you in spirit."
Don’t expect them to help out in other areas.
Guan Mingyue grunted in acknowledgment and started eating.
The pleasant dinner ended, and once the dishes were cleaned up, Yan Wanwan and Ning Haitao came out of the room, looking as if they were owed millions, and started to cook.
Ning Haitao was truly hopeless; after finally lighting the stove, he added too much wood, blocking the air, causing thick smoke.
Violent coughing echoed one after another.
Yi Chichi sighed, returned to her room, listened to the bickering outside while washing up, then lay on the kang for a good night’s sleep in the embrace of Zhou Gong.
The next morning after breakfast, she went to the team clinic.
She happened to see Uncle Yaozi elegantly squatting at the door talking to Da Li with his paws closed together.
"Kid, your dad is going to bring your mom back. You have to listen to Sister Chichi at home, got it?"
Yi Chichi remained silent, realizing that in Uncle Yaozi’s eyes, she ranked lower than Da Li.
Da Li, being instructed, raised his paw and meowed. Uncle Yaozi immediately grabbed his furry little paw, "Remember to think of Dad, and when you play on the mountain, be safe. If you encounter danger, run away as quickly as possible..."
He went on and on, but Da Li initially cooperated. As he kept listening, he got impatient and slapped Uncle Yaozi before darting off swiftly.
Uncle Yaozi said, "...You ungrateful thing, I’ve treated you well in vain."
The cat had long gone, not hearing his complaint.
Yi Chichi heard it and replied coolly, "You’re too long-winded. Da Li got annoyed by your nagging."
Uncle Yaozi, who had noticed her arrival long ago, snorted, "You’re just like Da Li, both ungrateful kids."
"Oh really, I’m ungrateful, yet I support you with food stamps."
Yi Chichi mockingly extended her hand towards him, "If you can, return my food stamps."
"In your dreams!"
Uncle Yaozi picked up the luggage from the ground and swung it over his shoulder, then came over to Yi Chichi and handed her a key.
"I’ve prepared a small room for you. It’s better if you don’t return to the Youth Corps Courtyard at night; just stay here. Have Qin Jiu accompany you, and be discreet in the morning when you leave."
Yi Chichi’s smile froze as she was about to take the key, "Uncle, what are you saying?"
"You know what I’m saying."
Uncle Yaozi placed the key in her hand and said softly, "I don’t know what your relationship with the Qin family grandparents is, but you should be well to take care of them, understand?"
She understood completely.
Yi Chichi was silent for two seconds, then smiled and put the key in her pocket, deciding not to hide anymore.
"Uncle, when did you find out?"
"When you threw a package into the courtyard while collecting herbs on the mountain last time."
Straightforward as usual, Uncle Yaozi, having chosen this moment to speak openly, added as if it was an afterthought, "It’s not just me who knows; your team leader uncle and the others are aware too."
The implication being that her secret aid to those in the cow shed was something known insiders had tacitly agreed upon.
Understanding the implication, Yi Chichi’s eyebrow twitched, "Who else knows?"
"Just a few of us."
Knowing what she was thinking, Uncle Yaozi praised her actions, "You’ve done pretty well actually; it’s just you didn’t handle the details well."
"Which areas?"
She humbly sought advice.
Uncle Yaozi looked around, seeing no one, he whispered, "They don’t look too bad."
Most of the underfed and poorly clothed add up to looking pale and skinny; the folks in the cowshed, though cared for because the commune had people watching over them, couldn’t be overtly helped.
But help was limited.
Yet, Mr. Qin and his folks, while not glowing with health, were neither pale nor weak.
This quite obviously meant someone was secretly supporting them.
The only one capable of doing this was none other than Yi Chichi.
Guan Mingyue’s youth leader could count too, but that girl had arrived late, she could be excluded.
Yi Chichi gazed at the sky, never expecting this was where she’d slipped.
However, it didn’t matter much, since Uncle Yaozi had chosen now to speak up, indicating this wouldn’t burden her.
So maybe she could push boundaries a little more?
Thinking of this, she softly asked, "Uncle, is there a way to send Qin Jiu to school?"
"You want to send that Qin Jiu kid to school?"
Uncle Yaozi’s eyes widened in disbelief as he confirmed.
Yi Chichi nodded, and Uncle Yaozi thought for a moment before asking, "How are you related to them?"
"My grandparents and Mr. Qin were blood brothers who climbed out of the same trench."
This was the truth, except she concealed the family’s kinship connection.
In those days, some war bonds were arguably even stronger than familial ties.
Uncle Yaozi realized and no wonder the kid would supplement them.
Probably she came to Kao Shan Village for the sake of that elder and the young one.
"As for school..."
He pondered, touching his chin, then said softly, "You should look for Grandpa Liu. As long as you persuade and please him, Qin Jiu attending school won’t be a problem."
Pausing, he advised again, "Use Mr. Qin’s enlistment as the entry point, understand?"
"Understood!"
It seemed she needed to visit Liu Lan’s house.
Just then, the brigade leader raced up on his bicycle.
"Yaozi left, I’ll take you to the commune to catch a ride."
"Get down, I’ll carry you."
The brigade leader responded, got off the bike, Uncle Yaozi casually tossed his luggage over to him, strode over to the bike, and said, "Watch the team clinic, remember to check the medicinal fields, and make sure to water and weed."
"The cabinet’s medicine stock is low, remember to restock, and don’t forget to report and apply for western medicine either, however much you can apply for, and also..."
He rattled off, words pouring like a stream.
Yi Chichi took notes with pen and paper, the brigade leader looked at her pityingly, thinking Yi Zhqing has it tough having such an unreliable mentor in Yaozi.
Finally, after all the nagging, Uncle Yaozi departed.
Watching the two of them leave, Yi Chichi wiped a brow of sweat and returned indoors. Just as she finished cleaning up, Liu Lan rushed in like a whirlwind holding a little baby.
"Chichi, quickly check my big nephew, he hasn’t pooped for four days."
Yi Chichi quickly took the baby and conducted a thorough examination, then asked Liu Lan a few questions to confirm.
"It’s just the baby holding it in, it’s normal!"
