Echoes of Vengeance: The Sweet Wife's Perfect Revenge-Chapter 107: Terms of Protection (1)
Chapter 107: Terms of Protection (1)
Vivienne wasn’t been found yet.
Daniel Anderson’s location was unknown.
Charlie Harmon was waiting to be released.
Worst of all, Aveline was being threatened.
Damien had been frustrated throughout the night. No solution to any issue was satisfying him.
As if those weren’t enough to keep him on edge, his exhausted secretary placed the iPad in front of him when the clock hadn’t even hit seven in the morning.
Damien looked at the cover picture. Same dress, same location, but the caption was different. ’She was like a Magnet.’
Damien reluctantly played the video. Vivienne appeared more composed. She leaned in as she spoke, "The second time. It was a beach holiday on his business trip. I was waiting for him on the deck of our yacht, watching the horizon."
She smiled faintly, almost embarrassed. "Then she appeared." Her eyes glinted. "She boarded another yacht. It was sleek, stunning, and far more expensive. It was named after her. Of course it was."
After a beat, "She was with her friends, all laughing, radiant in a beach dress that fluttered like sea foam. I stood there, forgetting him, and watched her yacht floating away."
Her expression hardened. "Then he arrived, and we left for our sunset cruise." She laughed suddenly. "But my eyes found her. We were far yet too close to ignore. And then... she dove into the ocean like she belonged there."
Vivienne looked down, a bit embarrassed. "I didn’t mean to. But there were binoculars nearby. I picked them up."
Her voice turned wistful. "She danced to the music, laughed unrestrained, and witnessed the sky changing color. And I... I watched her. I couldn’t look away. Just like at the fashion show."
Her tone hardened slightly. "I kept telling myself it was just twice. Just two random sightings."
She shook her head softly. "But she never left my mind. Not once. It’s like... she was a magnet. And I... I was drawn in, even against my will."
She leaned into the camera with a whisper. "Now ask yourself... What are the chances I would see her again in Velmora?"
The screen faded to black with text: [To be continued...]
Damien stared at the text on the screen but didn’t move. It was very obvious, Vivienne was trying to push him to another dead end.
His secretary reported, "Vivienne Sinclair’s video has completely suppressed the news about Charlie Harmon." Thus, they were able to handle the news of Ashford Holdings.
Damien leaned back in his seat. Exhausted, but his eyes glinted darkly. He would have to lure Vivienne out of her den.
And Charlie?
He could have had him killed if he knew who Charlie’s messenger was.
Shortly, he received a picture and an audio message from Vivienne. He clicked on the picture. His eyes narrowed. It was a picture of Vivienne pleasuring him in the Starlink Apartment. The image was too vivid to fake.
He clicked on the audio. Vivienne’s provoking voice began: [Tsk, I thought you would find and kill me before sunrise. Anyway, how is your morning, Damien...? Let me make it more presentable.] freёnovelkiss.com
Then her voice hardened: [You promised to marry me, Damien. To marry me, you need to divorce Aveline first. Simple, right?] She snickered. [Either you divorce her today, or she will divorce you tomorrow with an adultery case against you. I have a video and I’ll vouch for it. She would take away huge alimony. Maybe all the shares too.]
The audio ended. Vivienne’s voice died down, resuming the haunting silence in the office.
Damien’s lips curled into a sly smile. He wanted this, to know her intention. And how did Vivienne think she could be safe with him if he divorced Aveline?
Just as he was ready with the plan, his mobile started ringing.
’Nina.’
Aveline could be the end to all his problems, and she was also the beginning of all his dreams. He couldn’t lose her, but he couldn’t have her either.
He answered the call to hear her panicked voice. [Damien. That tree was cut down. The truck...] she choked, [...he almost rammed into the car. Somebody is trying to kill me.]
For a moment, Damien was shocked. He couldn’t believe Simon was taking action. And Simon would kill her if he didn’t take any action. Upon that, he couldn’t let her run to the police station.
He chose the solution to all his problems.
"Nina, listen to me carefully. Drive to the administrative office. Right now. I’ll handle the rest."
[What!?] She was confused, and that’s what he wanted.
"No time. Just do it," he commanded.
[But...]
"Do it. Or I won’t be able to protect you next time." He ended the call.
Yes, he was protecting her, and he wanted her to believe whatever he did was to protect her.
No, he didn’t plan to let go of Aveline. He chose the option he could mend later.
He dialed his lawyer, Clara Reeve, and began the preparation for divorce.
....
At the marriage bureau,
At a quarter to nine, Damien reached the administrative office and saw Aveline, rattled, standing at the corner, waiting for him.
With Clara following him, Damien approached Aveline. "Nina, why are you standing in the cold?" He sounded worried.
Aveline ignored Clara and focused on Damien. Her expression contorted with confusion. "Why are we here, Damien? We should be at the police station to find the person who is threatening me. To find the person who tried to kill me twice."
Clara smirked, watching Aveline, who was confused and scared.
’As long as I’m married to Damien, I own Ashford Holdings. And as long as I own it, I’ll make sure you lose every ounce of credibility you’ve built.’
That was what Aveline had told her. Now that Damien was divorcing her, it soothed the humiliation she had gone through.
’Aveline Laurent, I took just one day to get rid of you. Now you must have learned that money isn’t everything.’ She sneered in her mind.
Nevertheless, she chose silence to avoid Damien doubting her intentions and went inside the office to begin the procedure.
