It wasn't the first time Uriel saw Medusa's petrifying glare in action, but now she used it out in the open it showed the true extent of her power. Hundreds of cryptids that not even five seconds ago were rampaging towards Medusa were now turned into little more than cheap decorations.

"I did it!" Medusa made a cute celebratory dance no one could see that almost ended in her falling off the ledge of the floating island. "That was dangerous." She giggled, then put the blindfold back on.

"It's safe now." Uriel let out a sigh when the light faded.

"What... but..." Kalos stuttered in a mix of fear and awe at the aftermath of Medusa's trait.

"Did you really think Medusa was just a helpless blind girl?"

"No, I knew she was a heavenly rank hunter, but this is too much."

Kalos seemed to react heavily to Medusa's display of power, but Uriel couldn't blame him. Her power had always been stronger than her rank which amounted to her proficiency in martial arts made her a force to reckon with.

"Where's my sister? Where is she?" Tate looked at his surroundings trying to spot her, but she was nowhere to be found.

"She's probably throwing a tantrum." Uriel scoffed, quickly regretting his words after spotting Bella flying at breakneck speed in a diagonal trajectory to catch Medusa who was now falling off the island. The lower Bella flew, the more evident it became she was starting to lose control of the wind element as her speed diminished.

Instead of turning around, though, Bella adjusted her trajectory drawing an even lower line to match her decreasing speed to Medusa's downward acceleration.

"No! Bella!" Tate attempted to follow her sister, but Uriel caught his arm and dug his heels on the ground to keep him earthbound.

"There's nothing you can do now, you'd be throwing your life away." Uriel shook his head hoping it would be enough to stop his suicidal attempt, but the sergeant used all his might and managed to drag Uriel a few meters until he noticed Bella succeeded.

"Here, You wanted me to help, so I took the initiative." Bella said as she placed Medusa on the ground.

"Medusa, are you alright? What happened?" Uriel gave her a series of soft taps on the cheek to help her regain her consciousness.

"I'm fine, I just spent too much flux." Medusa replied with a thin voice, then closed her eyes and fell silent. Uriel gave a thankful nod at Bella, then picked Medusa up to carry her further inland and the group followed.

Not even two minutes after, Uriel saw a familiar figure appear from the bushes. It was a lean reptilian figure with yellow predatory eyes that looked fierce and cunning.

"I'll take care of that cryptid!" Eager to make amends for her past blunder, Bella prepared herself to take down the cryptid.

"That's not a hybrid, it's her trait" Much to Uriel's surprise, it was Tate the one who pointed it out. "It's nice to see you, Lieutenant Dragonfang."

"Itsss corporal Dragonfang now." She hissed cassually and Tate replied in the same manner.

"I'm sorry to hear that, ma'am."

"You two knew each other!?" Uriel was shocked, but Bella was absolutely flabbergasted.

"Brother, please tell me you're not that monster's boyfriend."

"Don't be disrespectful, little sister. She's not a hybrid, that's her trait. She's also not my girlfriend, but she is the reason why I joined the army."

"Yesss, you were so flimsssy back then, it took you a while to gain so much mussscle." Dragonfang laughed.

"Sorry to interrupt you, but Medusa needs medical attention." Uriel glared at Miss Dragonfang who led them to the camp where Chiara, Lamar and Luna were enjoying a small portion of the samples they collected over the days.

"This... tastes wrong." Luna said, her tongue numb after eating an ivy leaf that turned out to be poisonous.

"I told you I wasn't sure." Chiara said apologetically.

"It seems we came right in time for Dinner." Uriel said loudly after handing Medusa to Miss Dragonfang. Medusa was clearly unhappy about this, but she also knew it was necessary for what was about to happen.

Uriel dug his heels in the ground, lowered his center mass by bending his knees and extended his arms bracing himself for what he and Medusa knew came next. Luna swiftly stood up and darted at him like a speeding bullet in a bear hug so tight it left him breathless.

"Udiel!" Said Luna with a funny tone that caused him to chuckle.

"It's so good to see you again." Uriel patted her on top of her head like she was a puppy and she reacted by rubbing her face on his chest.

"I didn't you you had a child." Bella gaped at the sight.

"I don't like her." Luna said after sniffing the air.

"Great, another one! You're surrounded by monsters!" Bella shrieked.

"How could you tell?" Luna tilted her head, making Bella shudder at the realization that contrary to most hybrids, Luna didn't take it as an insult but rather an accurate description.

"Uriel..." Luna broke the hug and craned her neck up to look him in the eye.

"I know, I'll tell you everything I learned about cryptids, just let me catch my breath first."

"You can do that later, you've been reckless again. Bad Uriel." Said Luna as she looked him from different perspectives poking him with her finger from time to time and even groping his muscles. Instead of resisting it, Uriel crouched to counter the difference in height and make her task easier.

"Why is she fondling him? That's sexual harassment!" Bella gaped at the shameless act, though nobody else reacted. freēnovelkiss.com

"You've never been wounded in combat before, but this is a standard medical check up in a battlefield." Tate explained.

"I wish, I can tell she's having fun." Medusa sighed dejectedly.

"I'm fine, Medusa is the one who needs medical attention." Uriel scolded.

"It seems she's only deprived of flux energy, she just needs to eat and rest. You have two broken ribs, fractured humerus, your left hand is dislocated out of place and there's an open wound in your scalp, probably made with a rock.

Too bad we're out of serum, I'll have to do this the old way." Luna grabbed Uriel's hand and pulled it with force snapping it back into position, she then dropped Uriel on the ground and did the same with his leg.

"This is painful to see, but he didn't so much as let out a yelp" Tate commented in admiration.

"Luna, I've told you several times you can't disregard pain while you treat the wounded. Even hunters can pass out or even suffer post traumatic stress from pain which might cause them to refuse medical treatment in the future. Healing physical injuries is easy, but treating mental scars is nigh impossible." Lamar lectured the tiny huntress who looked at Uriel with confusion.

"It's fine, I didn't feel anything. I always refuse the pain medication anyway." Uriel defended Luna, who seemed please. After experiencing so many different deaths without being able to actually die, Uriel dismissed pain as nothing but a nuisance. It wasn't that he was incapable of experiencing pain, but the treatment he received barely made it to a 1 on his scale of pain.

Lamar seemed shocked by Uriel's response, but despite his curiosity he refrained himself from asking any more questions and limited himself to treat the minor wounds on Tate and Kalos. This, along with the meal prepared by Chiara dissipated the initial dense atmosphere in the camp and the mood improved by leaps and bounds.

Tate was particularly happy to engage in conversation with Miss Dragonfang and they reminisced of their time in the army, while also telling stories of their achievements. Despite being siblings, Kalos and Chiara didn't have much to say to each other and instead joined Uriel's group, leaving Bella completely alone.

"How can they be so... so..." She gritted her teeth after seeing everyone getting along but her.

After a couple hours of meaningless conversation and resting, Medusa's condition improved greatly and Luna decided it was time to share her findings.

"I have something to show you Uriel, you too Medusa." Explaining the strange phenomenon that took place near the lepidodendrum tree was bound to be easier after he experienced it first hand and she didn't want to spoil his research by sharing her theories with him beforehand.

Uriel's insight in archaeology would probably give him a different perspective than hers and the same thing happened with Medusa, but if she told them what to look for they might miss something only they could see.

The two hunters followed Luna towards the pond where the statue of 'Dearest one' remained the same as last time, only now Uriel consciously avoided looking at it and kept walking until they left it behind. After a few more minutes, Luna stopped walking and pointed at line drawn in the ground.

"This is it." Luna said.
