The old aslphalt road was fooded and there were many obstacles all through its length. fallen trees, vegetation and sometimes even abandoned cars. The more Uriel walked down that road, the more obstacles he encountered which made following it much more difficult than he initially thought.

His traveling speed was slow, but at least he knew exactly where he was heading to. If his theory was correct, the megacity to the east wasn’t Baton Rouge, nor was it built in any city of old and that would mean the place he was heading to was Lafayette, or at least what remained of it.

Judging by the state of the road and the many battle traces he found along the way, the city of Lafayette must have been a lost city by now.

That could explain not only why did he find an old French manor that should have been near the Mississipi so close to the megacity, but would also provide an explanation as to why the more he ventured west the stronger cryptids he found.

It could be sait it was an incredibly stupid thing to do, to head face first into an unknown lost city, but that wasn’t the case for Uriel who could summon the jaguar spirit and escape from most threats without any issues. Besides, because of the terrain and location, Uriel guessed that it should be mostly unexplored by men and he couldn’t pass on the chance to be the first one to scavenge a POI.

The first buildings he saw on the way were mostly motels and gas stations, both provided little to no cover and the chances of finding anything of value were slim to none. Since he was already low on time, he continued on his way until he finally saw the lost city at a distance.

Then, he summoned the jaguar spirit and went full speed to find a safe spot to pass his third night in a more comfortable manner than the other two. Even if concrete did little to stop crytpids, it did a great job in concealing a hunter’s energy signature. That meant Uriel would finally be able to rest properly, something he really needed after so much running and fighting.

The lost city of Lafayette was just as flooded as the asphalt road that lead to it. The whole city looked mossy and covered in vegetation and goo, but something that didn’t escape Uriel’s eye was that there weren’t any markings on the walls, confirming his theory that he would most likely be the very first hunter to scavenge it.

Just like the lost city of San Antonio, the whole city was filled with cryptids of all sorts, but most of them remained inactive during the day. Each cryptid was much a predator as it was also a prey and the only ones desperate or foolish enough to hunt during the day would usually end up as the latter.

Although the city looked to be in poor condition, the buildings were actually in pretty good shape. Their foundations were solit and the walls were mostly untouched, hinting that when the arrival happened people either evacuated the city or swiftly perished without putting up a fight.

With the whole city for himself, Uriel’s possibilities were endless. He could have opened the bank’s safe or even ransacked a museum, but the first building he decided to visit was a library. Even for someone as greedy as him, knowledge was far more valuable than gold. Especially when facing unknown threats.

Besides, the public library he chose had a thick concrete wall that would do wonders to keep his presence concealed from the ever hungry beasts that had probably never encountered a hunter before.

"let’s see the newspapers... there must be something about that old manor in the swamp," Uriel muttered to himself as he opened the glass casing that kept the newspapers from being ruined. He looked from the modern times to the oldest newspapers, using his Dash skill to conveniently skim through the titles. "Why didn’t I do something like this before?

It could have saved me so much time when studying." He scolded himself.

Although the modern newspapers had little to nothing of interest to him, the further in the past he ventured the more interesting articles he found. There were even some about mysterious creatures that were supposedly spotted in the vicinity. That kind of articles would have never caught his eye, but ever since he met Luna his mind changed quite a bit.

While Uriel was certain that most of the lore and mythology had to be the figment of imagination, at least a part of it was either real or based on reality. If there was at least a small piece of helpful information, it could make the difference between life and death in the future.

Snapping pictures of the most interesting articlesa from time to time, Uriel swiftly went through most of the newspapers that dated back to the ninetenth century. It was among the last ones that he found an article that deeply unsettled him.

"The wild girl of Catahoula." He read out loud. While geography was never taught to him in school, Uriel’s passion about archaeology led him to study it on his own, but that wasn’t enough to memorize the maps. For that reason, he went to look for one.

If not for the fact that the library was flooded up to Uriel’s knees, it remained pretty much the same as it used to be and given that Uriel knew his way in libraries it took him no time to find a map.

"Whew, it seems I already passed Catahoula." He let out a sigh of relief, not wanting to spend his evening fighting against an unknown entity rank cryptid. While the letieche he killed before turned out to be an easy fight, it was mostly because of its lack of intelligence. Had it been a more troublesome cryptid similar to the slenderman he fought before, it could have been Uriel’s last fight.

"Right... Since I’m already here, I guess I could take a globe map with me." He said to himself, though his voice resounded in the whole building and then something heavy fell from one of the bookshelves on the second floor as though replying to him.
