Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 269: The birth of an urban legend
Uriel exited the deceivingly dangerous house in the lost city along with Emma, only to realize that the area was overrun by cryptids of all sorts. They were mostly of the beast rank, but among them were some of the most dangerous monster rank crytids the POI had to offer which, unfortunately for Uriel, were giant centipedes.
"Bugs!" Uriel cringed at the sight of so many crawly creatures and although Emma didn’t share his disgust for insects, she was even more terrified than him.
The streets were filled with too many creatures that had come out to feed taking advantage of he eclipse’s ability to cover the sun, but now that it was killed and the dark mantle subsided they were out in the open and still hungry. Some of them turned to attack other cryptids, but others noticed the presence of the hunters and rushed in to get their long awaited meal.
Emma turned on her heels trying to get back inside, but Uriel caught her arm and pulled her closer.
"Don’t go there, it’s not safe. We need to go back to the city." Hiding would have been the wisest choice if not for the fact that he was made aware of the possibility that Slenderman might come looking for them.
"But there’s too many!"
"I can fix that." Uriel said as he took out his revolver and began shooting at the wild cryptids that dared come near them. The loud gunshots alerted the rest of the unsightly creatures of their presence, but Uriel wasn’t scared of low rank creatures that wouldn’t be able to leave a scratch on his skin.
Actually, he wasn’t scared of the creatures that could potentially kill him, like the eclipse who left him for dead.
Even a gruesome wound like a stab through the chest healed without issues with just the passive ability of Water warlock’s blessing and he didn’t even need to activate it. All it took was to wait for a while and the wound closed on its own.
Uriel pulled Emma like a kite as he darted across the street in a shooting frenzy. Granted, he missed most of the shots, but they were so powerful most cryptid exploded on impact.
"What are you idiots doing! Hide!" Tina shouted from the open window of a nearby building where she took shelter along with her friends. Uriel pondered for a second on whether he should warn her about the powerful cryptid that might be on his way to kill them but since she took the risk of exposing her own position just to tell him to hide he figured he should return the kindness.
"An entity, possibly a horror, is on its way here, we need to run!"
Tina’s eyes widened and she jumped from the third floor with complete disregard for the height, like the heavenly rank huntress she was. Mary and Sophie followed soon after and they started firing their shoulder cannons as soon as they landed.

"They’re too many, we’re barely holding our ground, how are we supposed to make our way out?" Tina voiced out in the midst of the raging battle but Uriel was paying attention to what Luna was saying over his headphone.
The presence of the nearby cryptids cut the communication several times and in spite of his ascended hearing he still had trouble understanding her words through the interference.
"According to my investigation, uhm, Slenderman is the incarnation of serial killers. By cross referencing old tales on the internet with newspapers, I found there’s a correlation in serial killers activity and Slenderman sightings.
They live on places where people was killed and the reason they act so politely is because they base their personality on the double faced killers who pretend to live a normal life. This explains why the urban legend had so many different settings, but the Slenderman behavior was always the same,
I can’t be sure if they’re entities or horrors, but everything points out that they’re particularly powerful and adept at single combat, Do not fight that thing in close combat. No, just don’t fight it, if you see it run as fast as you can and leave everyone behind. Maybe if you use them as bait you’ll make it.
About it’s abilities I can’t say much, but Sam says there’s something wrong with its face so I advice you to not look at it, no matter what."

It was the first time Luna ever called ’thing’ a cryptid, which made Uriel realize how serious she was being and he also didn’t miss how she basically told him to kill other people in order to save himself. It made him wonder on whether she was extremely worried about him or if she had always disregarded human life like it was nothing.
"Uri! Listen to me!" Tina cried as she tried to get his attention, but he kept ignoring her which made her mad. "I’m talking to you, Sage!" She let out and the strangest thing happened.
"What is it!?" Both Uriel and Emma replied at the same moment. They shared an awkward look that lasted until the next cryptid broke through their defensive line and landed a hit on Mary.
Her armor was torn to pieces, but she was able to stand back up in an instant and her shoulder cannon made quick work of the bug like creature.
"Make every shot count." Uriel said as he handed his Magnum to a stunned Emma who didn’t know how to use a revolver, nor any firearm for that matter.
Uriel gripped his sword and made his way through the horde of weaklings, leaving a trail of goo and sliced cryptid carcasses.
"Is he really an ascended?" Emma asked as her face was lit up by the sparks caused by Thunderbolt Iron.
"I- I don’t know anymore." Was all Tina could reply in her shocked state.
After a few minutes of a rinse and repeat cycle where Uriel would fight in close combat and then retreat back to their defensive line, the way was clear and they were able to move forward. Things were starting to look bright for the group of hunters, but that only lasted until the sun began to set.
