Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 266: White picket fence house
By the time Uriel reached the door it was already too late as the last of the rookies had already crossed the threshold of the seemingly harmless house and the door had been closed. The black smoke coming out of the chimney was starting to form a big cloud, but Uriel was set on entering that place.
"Don’t even think about it." Sam said through the speaker.
"I thought you wanted me to help them."
"That was before the eclipse was triggered, once that smoke covers the sky all the surrounding cryptids will come out of their hideouts and there’s too many buildings blocking my sight."
Uriel was torn in between abandoning the students to their fate or rescuing them. Sam’s words only added to his rational thinking as he knew it was a bad idea to take so many risks for people he didn’t know, but on the other hand it was the first chance he’s had of fighting an entity level cryptid on a while.
"Does it really make a difference? If I don’t go in, I’ll still be forced into hiding but If I go and manage to defeat the eclipse, I might be able to come back home tonight." Uriel waited for Sam’s reply, who hesitated for a few seconds before finally agreeing that going in was the best course of action.
The door was closed, but it wasn’t locked and Uriel was able to enter the place. He was greeted by the framed picture of a happy family on top of a small table. There was also a small vase with a few flowers arranged in a thoughtful manner and a glass bowl with a handful of coins and some keys.
Since the eclipse was still taking form outside, it wasn’t completely dark but everything looked as though Uriel was looking through a stained glass and he took the chance to turn on the gas lantern hanging from his backpack. He then made his way to the living room where a comfy couch and a sofa were set up in an inviting manner, right in front of a low coffee table.
"This is so weird." He muttered.
There were decorations all over the place, but it didn’t look tacky. It was all very tasteful and live in, which made Uriel think how much he would enjoy living in a place like that, but three things didn’t add up.
The first one was the context, a place like that would be nothing but warm and cozy inside the city, but Uriel didn’t forget it was located inside a POI. Second, there was no trace of the people who went in before him which was strange considering it hadn’t been long since they entered. And third, there was no chimney.
"Sam, there’s no chimney, Sam, can you hear me? Sam!" Uriel took off his headphone and spoke directly into it, but all he received in response was the sound of static. "Alright... I tried." Uriel shrugged his shoulders and turned to leave, but then he realized there was no door handle.
He tried pushing the door, then bashing at it, but it didn’t break. He then looked at the glass windows that seemed to be the obvious next step, but something told him it would be a bad idea to try and break them. He was trapped.
He held the grip of his sword tightly, unwilling to store it inside his trait. He was able to store it in his makeshift museum on the headquarters and summon it, but putting it back there was impossible and he feared that the minute he stored inside his trait he’ll lose it.
The blade was too long for a fight in close quarters, but it still gave him a sense of confidence. Even if he couldn’t swing it properly in the narrow place, he could still activate the lightning effect.

The kitchen, the bathroom, everything looked perfectly normal for the home of a happy family, perhaps the same one that appeared in the frame which prompted Uriel to go back and investigate the picture.
The father was a tall man with a wide pearly smile, the wife smile was a soft curve drawn on her lips accompanied with squinting eyes that gave it a genuine look and there was also a child, a small girl who smiled in a joyous manner. It was literally the picture perfect family.
But then again, Uriel couldn’t fathom what was it doing in a place like that in the middle of a dangerous point of interest.

Nothing made sense and Uriel was starting to question whether or not he was transported into an alternate reality, one where ’the arrival’ never took place and people kept living their life with normality. A reality where cryptids didn’t plague the world bringing death and destruction all over the world.
"Maybe this is what my home would have looked like instead of that shitty place in the slums. Heck, if I knew there was a place like this in the lost city I may have moved in, even if I had to be roommates with a cryptid," Uriel chuckled to himself as he reflected on what would living with a cryptid imply.
"hair on the bathroom sink, weird guests, noises in the night, that’s all just like in the slums. What about food?"
He walked towards the unplugged fridge and slowly opened the door, only to regret it soon after as the stench of rotting flesh hit him like a gut punch. The only thing inside the fridge was a human arm, but the whole thing was covered in old blood stains and even small chunks of unidentified rotten flesh. There were no flies, no worms, only a human arm that was cleanly cut rather than torn apart.
"Nope, I’ll take the slums any day." Uriel quickly closed the fridge and realized that one of the cupboards was slightly out of place. After moving it, a staircase leading to a dark basement was revealed.
