Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 191: Terry Pratchett’s sword
Nika was having a hard time fighting against two vampire cryptids. She still had her wooden stake at hand, but it was difficult to be precise with her strikes with so much cloud blinding her. At some point, she got bitten over the shoulder and she couldn’t help but let out a pained scream calling for the only person who could save her.
"Uriel!" She tried to shake the cryptid off, but its jaw was incredibly powerful for a monster rank cryptid. Not just that, by doing so her wound became more severe and the nerve was severed causing her to drop the wooden stake and allowing the other vampire to jump no her. The dust cloud also rendered her trait useless and she couldn’t think of a way out of her situation.
At that moment, a blue flame appeared in the corner of her eye and the two cryptids were swiftly devoured by the jaguar spirit. "What the fuck!"

The seething pain on her shoulder was difficult to endure and she fell to her knees, but at least she hadn’t lost the arm which meant she would be able to recover fully with just some rest. It was one of the perks of being a heavenly rank, but something like that took time and in the meantime she couldn’t fight at all.
The jaguar cryptid roared and picked Nika up with its maw, but not before she grabbed the wooden stake she dropped before.
Meanwhile, four cryptids were feasting on Uriel’s blood drinking greedily as he did nothing to fight back. The reason for this was simple, he knew he would be able to recover his lost blood and he needed time to think of a plan.
He entered his trait and hurried to the souvenir shop, but focusing on his trait was far too difficult to do while being eaten alive by thirsty undead vampires. He could feel his consciousness fade but he wanted to delay activating Water warlock’s blessing as much as he could.
Even if the pain was terrible, Uriel had to admit that he found a sense of peace by dying of blood loss. The last time it happened to him he felt the same, it was cold and unpleasant, but also peaceful in a very unsettling way.
However, this ’peace’ allowed him to remember another of the functions of his trait. It was the ’auction’.
Just by thinking about it, he knew he found the answer to his current situation. What troubled him, though, was the price he had to pay.
[Auction] Allows the user to buy any artifact currently in possession by anyone as long as the asking price is met. Eras unlocked: Modern, ancient.
Big Bertha, Mons Meg, Hojo Masamune, sword of Goujian, Tizona and Colada, Lafayette flitnlock, Old Betsy, Tick Licker, Bowie’s knife, Terry Pratchett’s sword.
The list was incredibly long and Uriel skimmed through the different items and their exuberant prices. Some of them would have been considered expensive even if the currency used was credits, but it was in trites.
Among the very few artifacts Uriel could afford with his current funds, the only one that caught his attention was Terry Pratchett’s sword. He wasn’t familiar with swords, but that was much better than a small pocket utility knife.
After using [Exchange] to acquire as many trites as he could, he paid the price for the artifact of his choosing and it appeared directly on his hand.
[System notice] Terry Pratchett’s Starmetal ’Thunderbolt Iron’ sword acquired: When Sir Terry Pratchett was knighted he figured he needed a proper sword and had one made out of seven meteorites. Bought from: Rhiana Pratchett.
[Passive] It can turn flux energy into electricity.
[Active] It can shoot lightning.
Without a second thought, Uriel gripped the sword with all of his strength and channeled flux towards it. Even the small amount he was able to muster was enough to wreck havoc among the cryptids that were greedily drinking his blood and they were calcined in an instant.
Such was the power of the incredible sword that was as much an historic artifact as a deadly weapon.
"Are you ok!?" Nika threw herself on top of Uriel with a worried expression.
"I can’t breathe." He muttered.
"Where are you hurt?" She asked. Uriel replied but it was difficult to hear him as he gasped for air. She leaned closer to him in order to listen and she was able to faintly hear what he was saying.
"Get off of me..."
"Woops." She stuck out her tongue.
Although Uriel was hurt, since he didn’t fight back against the cryptids his wounds weren’t that many and it wouldn’t take long for him to recover the lost blood thanks to his passive regeneration ability. Because of that, activating Water warlock’s blessing was pointless, but he still needed some time to recover.
Nika remained by Uriel’s side while the beast pounced away to take car of as many cryptids as it could. Uriel then grabbed an energy drink from his souvenir shop to sate his thirst and try to speed up his recovery and Nika placed his head on her lap and helped him drink.
While it was true that he could have bought a straw from the souvenir shop, it would have costed him at least one trite which was the equivalent to 1k credits and he would rather die for good than overspending.
After a couple minutes Uriel was beginning to feel better already and he was able to stand up. He also cancelled the summon of his jaguar trying to save as much flux energy as he could and also to keep the unruly feline from eating the flux orbs.
Though he deeply regretted it once the dust settled and it was revealed that there were still too many enemies in the surroundings and the entity rank cryptid was still standing.
"Nika, run away and warn the others to..."
"I won’t." Nika shook her head trying to hold back her tears as the cryptids darted towards them. It seemed as though she wanted to say something else, but her words were cut off by an extremely annoying person entering the scene.
"Are you cheating on me Nikki!?" Jon hunter said as he jumped off from a three story building with his hands in his pockets like it was nothing.
