Dumped A Scumbag At The Altar For A One Night Stand With A Billionaire-Chapter 60: Betrayal
"I bought shares from the country’s largest real estate company, you do know Blakewood Groups vision is to grow a chain from every field in business, it’s only natural I purchase the best of the best." Eleanor spoke smoothly, her gaze unblinking.
"We both know this wasn’t a business move grandma, you do things for benefits. You want something from me so you snatched what’s mine so I can find my way to you. You wanted me at your mercy." His tone was calm now, it was evident he had absolute control on his temper. He was furious that she had taken such a move, but he kept it under wraps.
What was even more amusing for the older woman was the fact that none of his words were wrong.
Yes, this was not a business move. The boy knew her so well, out of all her grandkids, he was her absolute favorite for his wit and limitless talents, it was a pity the boy kept avoiding his own family.
"What is yours is now mine Tristan." She stated utterly calm, "I must say, your success astounds me, your grandfather and I didn’t get half of what you have in the amount of time you started, more so because you never needed us at all. Your other cousins all have their backbones reliant on the family, without us they would crumble completely. You’re different Tristan, and that makes you my favorite."
"You were the iron fist behind Blakewood Groups grandma, but I’m surprised you don’t separate business and family. You played this move to trap me? You want me to take the Blakewood name again?"
Eleanor smiled mysteriously. "Would you like some tea Grandson? We have a long conversation ahead."
He could tell from the older woman’s smile that there was a lot she had planned beneath the surface. There was now a dangerous tremor to his voice as he uttered, "Name your price. Right now, I will buy back every share from you at fifty percent premium. Especially Eve’s share, you might have fooled her into selling her shares to you but I want her to have it back."
"That’s your biggest problem Tristan, you don’t take anything or anyone in this family seriously except your sister. I didn’t fool or force Eve to sell her shares to me, she did so willingly."
Tristan stiffened at those words?
Eve was the only pure thing left in this family. He was tempted to tell the older woman that but saying that would shift their topic of conversation to something entirely different which he didn’t have time for at the moment.
"You didn’t think I’d believe it if you told me Eve actually gave you her shares did you? Grandma, you’re not speaking to a four year old."
Tristan’s snide words merely made the older woman’s smile broaden, her eyes lit up as she spotted something behind him.
"You don’t have to believe me, you can ask her yourself."
It was at this moment he heard the footsteps coming from behind him. A billow of familiar curly head of long brown hair, and eyes the colors of the greens in the rainforest. A delicately beautiful face that reminded him of his mother.
Deep red graceful heels clanked against the floors of the greenhouse, the luggage she was pulling halted and she released it when she spotted the familiar back.
Soft, cherry colored lips spread into a pleasant smile. "Tristan?"
When those familiar hazel eyes clashed with her own, Genevieve’s smile stiffened and suddenly fell.
Ah, she had betrayed her own brother. It was understandable he would be furious at her.
Genevieve’s large luminous eyes suddenly seemed to lose some of it’s light as she lowered her head guiltily immediately Tristan began to walk up to her. She quietly reminded herself why she had done this and that gave her confidence enough to lift her head to meet him.
"Do you plan on killing yourself from cold? Why aren’t you wearing a damn jacket?" Tristan’s scolding voice made her freeze.
Genevieve expected him to question her on why she had given away her company shares, something he had given to her as assets because he cared for her, but instead of getting angry, he was worried about her catching a cold.
With an angry scowl he tugged off his coat then threw it around her shoulders.
"When will you grow up Eve? Do you even care about your own health?"
Her brother’s eyes looked like fire, he was angry but no matter what her safety came first.
Her eyes stung with tears as she was once again reminded of how much her older brother doted on her. She wanted to hug him, she had been away for quite a while but she caught the slow shake of her grandmother’s head from the corner of her eyes and remembered the big picture.
Tristan might have broken himself out of the Blakewood family, but there was still a shadow of the past that constantly followed him and it would never leave him. If it was up to him, Tristan would slowly rot away on the inside drowning in silence, pain and a quiet loneliness no one would ever see.
Genevieve knew that in order to help him, she would have to harden her heart and trust their grandmother.
"It wasn’t that cold outside Tristan, I’m fine." Genevieve coldly brushed past him and walked up to their grandmother giving the older woman a hug. She didn’t look because she knew Tristan would be shocked at her behavior.
"I gave my shares to grandma. I did it willingly." She dreaded seeing the look on his face but she looked anyway, the look of shock in his eyes made her heart slowly shatter and she immediately looked away avoiding his turbulent gaze.
’...it feels like the whole world is slowly falling apart, I can hear too many voices in my head and it’s breaking me but I can’t fall, I need to protect you. I’m falling into the dark and there’s no one...nothing to hold onto.’
The voice Genevieve heard in her head was quiet, broken, shook with a drastically drowning pain that ran too deep. It sounded a lot more youthful but it was Tristan’s voice, the him from years ago, the youth now buried behind cold walls that surrounded him.
’You have me, I won’t let you fall into the dark. I will be your strength and you’ll be mine. From now on, it’s you and me against the world.’
At the time, it felt like there were all alone. Tristan had taken the sole responsibility to protect and care for his sister after their parents passed, but he had been breaking inside. It used to be them against the world, and Genevieve could see that what she said had gone against that promise she had made to him.
"Why?" When he asked this question, the disbelief of her betrayal was still evident on his face.
Genevieve couldn’t give her brother the answer he needed to hear. She feared if she said anything, her voice would cave and her tears would fall and she wouldn’t be able to see this through to the very end.
"Because you’ve run away from your responsibilities long enough." Eleanor spoke up, her voice firm. "I want the perfect future for our family, and you’re the only one of my grandchildren with the correct constitution."
"You have many more grandchildren grandma." He replied stiffly.
"Oh please, your cousins aren’t even half the man you are. Do you know that the Blakewood empire embodies absolute perfection? This family will not crumble to your whims Tristan."
His eyes flared and he kept whatever outburst of rage under control before he gritted. "What do you want?"
Eleanor smiled knowing the boy was finally where she wanted him.
"I want a secured legacy, your company will be the collateral. Fulfill the condition and every share of Grayson Corp, every ounce of control will be transferred to you...and your wife."
Genevieve winced when the news was finally broken to Tristan. She saw how the word wife seemed to start the surge of a billowing flame in her brother’s eyes.
Marriage was one of the things he hated most in the world.
