It was like blood. You could have blood qi but it was dependent on how much dense and strong blood you had depending on your body cultivation realm. Similarly spirituality was also dependent on your cultivation realm and that defined how much soul essence you could use.

After you used all your soul essence then you had to wait for it to restore or use cultivation to restore it just like spirit qi but the restoration of soul essence was far slower.

If you cultivated to restore all of your qi then only one fourth of your soul essence would have restored. Usually it wasn’t much of a problem as cultivators hardly used soul attacks but sometimes it was necessary so having a pill which could specifically restore it was a must for Soul Sea Realm cultivators who had very little amount of soul essence.
