Dreaming of you-Chapter 51: Truth or Trouble? [1]
It was 10 PM. Me and Yeong-ae had finally finished studying. Since exams were right around the corner, Jung-hee had been helping two of us with our studies all evening. The moment we were done, Yeong-ae let out a deep sigh of relief and collapsed onto the floor.
"Finally! I’m free."
Seeing Yeong-ae’s dramatic reaction, Jung-hee and me burst into laughter. I glanced at the clock and said,
"It’s already 10."
"Oh my god, you’re right! So much time has passed and we haven’t even heard a word from Yohan and Dong-hyeon. What are those two even doing?"
Jung-hee asked, a hint of concern in her voice. Hearing Dong-hyeon’s name, Yeong-ae sat up and gave Jung-hee a sly sideways glance, a teasing smile creeping onto her lips.
"Tonight was supposed to be a girls’ night, wasn’t it? So why did you bring Dong-hyeon? What? He can’t sleep unless you’re around or can’t sleep until do something?"
She giggled mischievously.
Jung-hee’s cheeks flushed bright red. Flustered, she stammered,
"Wha—What are you even saying? Don’t forget, I’m older than all of you!"
"Oh no, the big sis card!" Yeong-ae teased.
"Hey, Yeong-ae, why are you teasing her like that? Can’t you see she’s already blushing? Look at those cheeks—like two red tomatoes!" I chimed in, laughing along with Yeong-ae.
Feeling embarrassed and cornered, Jung-hee huffed, "Alright, alright! I get it! You’re both ganging up on me now. Fine, I’m going downstairs to check on those two."
She started to get up, but Yeong-ae quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"Don’t go, Jung-hee. Let them be. As long as they’re not bothering us, we should enjoy our time. Besides, dragging those two donkeys up here would just ruin the fun."
Me and Jung-hee couldn’t help but laugh at her choice of words. Jung-hee dropped back onto the couch and raised an eyebrow. "Did you seriously just call them donkeys?"
"Yup."
"If either of them hears that, you’re done for real....."
Jung-hee warned, making a mock throat-slitting motion with her finger and sticking out her tongue like she was already dead.
Yeong-ae just shrugged. "I said what I said. Whether they take it seriously or not, that’s on them. And I wasn’t wrong, was I? Dong-hyeon doesn’t know how to treat the girl he loves, and my brother? He can’t even tell the girl how he feels. They’re both idiots. Even I think if I called them donkey, Then even the donkey race will feel ashamed. "
As she finished, she turned to look at me. But I just stared back blankly, not understanding the meaning of looking at me.
"What?" I asked, tilting my head.
"Nothing," Yeong-ae replied, waving it off.
"Okay, forget those two for now," Jung-hee said, trying to waving it off. "So... what do we do next?"
"Well, we were supposed to watch a movie, remember? But we never got to it. Those two donkeys are still downstairs. We won’t be able to watch anything. So, let’s play a game instead!"
"What game?" I asked.
Yeong-ae looked at both of them with a mischievous glint in her eye. Though Jung-hee and I didn’t quite understand what she was thinking, but we both had a feeling she was up to something.
"Truth or Dare," Yeong-ae whispered.
"Tru... truth or da.. dare? Why Truth or Dare? We already know everything about each other. Let’s play something else," I replied with a nervous smile.
"Exactly! Su-jin is right. Let’s pick something else," Jung-hee agreed nervously.
Yeong-ae narrowed her eyes at us and said in a suspicious tone, "Why are you two so nervous all of a sudden? And don’t want to play the game? If we know everything about each other, then playing this game shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
"Nervous? Who’s nervous? And we don’t want because what you say. We already know everything about each other. So It just won’t be that fun, that’s all."
"Yep, exactly what Su-jin said."
"Well, if it turns out to be boring, we can switch games later. Let’s just start. Hold on, we need a bottle. Give me a minute, I’ll find a bottle."
Yeong-ae began rummaging through the room for a bottle. Meanwhile, me and Jung-hee, we exchanged worried glances.
"If you can’t find a bottle, it’s okay, Yeong-ae. Let’s just do something else," I called out.
"Yeah, forget it, Yeong-ae. If it’s taking too long, let’s just watch a horror movie instead."
Even though Jung-hee and I tried to convince her otherwise, Yeong-ae didn’t respond. And then, by sheer luck, she found one.
"Got it!" she said with a triumphant grin, holding up the bottle for us to see.
Me and Jung-hee stared at it like it was some sort of cursed object, swallowing hard.
The three of us sat down in a circle with the bottle placed in the middle. Me and Jung-hee watched it as though it could explode at any second.
"Well then, I’ll spin the bottle first, what do you say?"
Jung-hee and me, we both nodded hesitantly.
Yeong-ae gave the bottle a strong spin. It whirled around rapidly. Her eyes sparkled with anticipation. But the other two didn’t share the same excitement. The slower the bottle spun, the more tense and nervous Su-jin and Jung-hee became. The air was thick with suspense. Even though the weather is cold, drops of sweat began forming on their skin. All eyes were on the bottle. Its momentum slowed.
Each of them silently begged the bottle not to stop in front of them. It felt like they were willing it with their minds—as if they had magical powers in their hands or eyes to keep it spinning. But of course, reality didn’t work that way. No amount of effort could change its course.
Finally, the bottle came to a stop—its neck pointing directly at Su-jin.
I went silent, devastated. For me, it felt like the end of the world. Meanwhile, Jung-hee and Yeong-ae both let out a sigh of relief and even gave a little cheer before regaining their composure. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Yeong-ae turned toward me with an evil grin and a glint of mischief in her eyes. My heart skipped a beat. I could tell Yeong-ae had something sinister planned.
With a chilling smile, Yeong-ae said,
"Su-jin.... Truth or Dare?"
I hesitated. Yeong-ae wasn’t someone to go easy on anyone. If I pick truth, Yeong-ae would probably ask me something deeply personal—maybe about my love life or some embarrassing secret that I had never told anyone. But if I chose dare.... Who knows what crazy things I will be forced to do? It also can be something that will add another layer of embarrassment to my life.
Both options felt dangerous.
But there was no escape now. I had to choose. After thinking it over carefully, I finally made up my mind—
