Drawing Cards in the Middle Ages to Rise in Ranks-Chapter 589 - 363: Major Events Before Returning
Turin, in the corner of the café, Lavinia was dressed in black casual wear, wearing a wide-brimmed soft hat, silently waiting for Losa to leave.
Hearing footsteps, she warily looked up, only to find the newcomer was a ragged young beggar.
"Miss, a big brother asked me to give you this note."
The young beggar handed the note to Lavinia, eyeing the food on her table with some greed.
Lavinia glanced briefly over the contents and then stood up hurriedly: "The food on the table is all yours."
The content of the note was very brief:
I've been targeted, we'll have to act separately now. At dusk, let's meet in the Dolomites. If I'm delayed, head directly into the mountains, and we'll rendezvous outside the Jura Mountain in Burgundy.
Lavinia felt a bit heavy-hearted.
She fully understood the dangers of returning on this journey. Originally, she didn't intend to come back, but Losa insisted. She had also been thinking of concluding the plan to rent a house to help the homeless over the winter, so she agreed.
She actually knew very well that Losa was thinking of her.
Lavinia gripped the handle of her bag tightly, her lips pressed firmly: "Please stay safe, Losa."
She regretted parting with Losa a bit.
Without her help by his side, how could Losa possibly be a match for the elite assassins sent by the Yakxi Family?
...
Alps.
Losa, at this moment, had already bypassed the Saint Bernard Pass, the same route that Emperor Napoleon had once led his army to launch a surprise attack on the Lombard Crown Territory, standing on high ground, overlooking the mountain towns below.
The terrain here is steep and covered with snow. The Wolf Race had stationed a considerable coalition here to guard against their northern neighbors from Switzerland, invading from this point.
Due to the route that traverses the Alps, this place was quite prosperous even during the Middle Ages.
"Saint Bernard (Patron Saint of the Alps and Mountain Climbers) bless me."
Losa made the sign of the cross over his chest, looked back at the figure trailing from a distance, neither daring to approach recklessly nor wanting to lose track of Losa, a slight cold smile on his face.
Losa naturally wouldn't cross the pass openly. He chose to climb and detour instead, something he was fully capable of doing given his physical condition.
After a short rest, Losa took a deep breath of the biting cold mountain air, pulled his boots out of the snow, and continued forward.
Losa had already received Lavinia's recognition, which meant his mission objective for this operation had been achieved.
But it still felt a bit stifling to him.
So, before leaving, he planned to make big news.
News that would shock all of Europe!
In front of him, an expansive cliff gradually appeared. He stopped, laid out the cotton coat he carried on the snow as a makeshift tablecloth, and slowly sat down, arranging the food from his bundle on it.
Two silent figures appeared not far away.
They didn't say a word, their aura steady, roughly estimated to be at least at the level of elite centurions.
On Losa's left lay a bottle of red wine featuring the Saint Andrew's Cross (a cross symbol), produced by the Golden Fleece Order in the Burgundy Region, its taste sweet and mellow, which he had conveniently taken from a wealthy merchant's house.
He poured himself a full glass of wine, drained it in one go, and raised his glass, indicating: "Care for some?"
The two centurions exchanged a glance but paid no attention to Losa.
Losa chuckled lightly, lighting a cigarette with a snap: "Even someone like you is merely a pawn to scout ahead. Your Wolf Lord isn't planning to personally deal with me, is he?"
One person coldly said, "You're not worthy!"
The other shook his head, speaking softly: "Keep a close watch on him, don't let him slip away."
Both had no intention of making a direct move.
The process of Losa taking down the Wolf Lord's Guard, though somewhat crafty with Lavinia's assistance, was genuine. They weren't confident they could take out Losa.
The two watched Losa's every move with cold eyes.
Yet they found that Losa's body was trembling slightly.
Not from fear.
Nor from the cold.
But from excitement for his upcoming plan.
The reason he sent Lavinia away was because he didn't know if the young judge lady could be resurrected if something happened to her. He had no such worries; Jeanne had already tested it, and a death in the combat record world was just a dream.
"Has he resigned himself to fate?"
"Where's that woman from the Bologna Family?"
The two were whispering to each other.
"I don't know, but the main directive from the Wolf Lord is to capture this Losa; that woman from the Bologna Family isn't important."
"I see; he probably intends to use himself as bait to secure a way out for his beloved."
One of the centurions looked at Losa with a slightly softer gaze.
"Fine, let's fulfill his wish then."
Losa was rudely holding a corn pancake adorned with shrimp and lamb, munching away heartily.
He hadn't eaten properly over the past few days, his stomach completely empty, making him feel he had grown thinner from hunger.
After finishing an entire corn pancake meant for three people, he once again lifted the costly wine from the Golden Fleece Monastery, swigging it down like a bull drinks from a peony.
Following that were fried pork chops and lamb ribs, accompanied by a can of pickled gherkins to cleanse the palate, all eaten cleanly.
Watching Losa's eating habits, one centurion couldn't help but comment, "That bundle of his, could it be full of food? I was concerned it might contain some high-power weaponry!"
The other centurion sneered, "Saluzzo has already abandoned him. Just him alone, where would he get some high-power weapon?"
Time passed quickly.
Losa's bundle seemed like an endless, inexhaustible bento box. He continuously took out an assortment of food, wolfing it down, causing the two centurions watching him to feel a tinge of envy.
"Finally finished eating."
The two sighed in relief.
Losa casually discarded the now-empty bundle, picked up the bottle, drained the wine inside, and then leisurely lit another cigarette.
"Where are your people?"
One centurion instinctively replied, "They're almost here."
Seeing his companion glaring at him, he helplessly said, "It's not like it's some kind of secret."
His companion coldly reminded him, "Don't talk to him. Remember, he's the one who killed Lord Victor. Don't show any sympathy towards him when Lord Bharat arrives."
Losa smiled at the replying centurion, who was just about to return the kind gesture, and then quickly suppressed it, remembering his companion's warning.
After another wait.
Hurried footsteps finally came through faintly.
A massively built Wolf Race giant, at least two and a half meters tall, slowly appeared in front of Losa. His aura was even more formidable than Victor, whom Losa had previously fought, clearly another figure at the Wolf Lord's Guard level.
Upon seeing Losa's leisurely demeanor, he couldn't help but frown.
After asking the two centurions, his expression shifted slightly: "Boy, you have quite the nerve."
"Indeed."
Losa nodded with a smile.
