Kelar was walking outside the royal palace. He passed the guards, who bowed to him, and continued through the large garden that separated the palace from the noble district. The moonlight was bright, with thick clouds moving lazily across the sky. Kelar strolled alongside a row of trees, their shadows stretching long behind them.

He looked up at the moon.

"Looks like I’m late for Cynthia’s session tonight," he muttered.

"Daria, bring Cynthia as usual."

He called out to his assistant.

But something felt off.

"Daria!"

No response.

Usually, she would appear at the first call. This was the first time she hadn’t.

His calm face slowly shifted into a serious expression.

Suddenly, from the shadows beneath the tree, a robed figure appeared. But it was not the one he had summoned.

"I deeply apologize, my lord. We lost Daria today... in the Cave of Coldshire," the robed figure said, voice muffled behind the mask.

"What did you just say?" Kelar snapped, his composure breaking.

"How did this happen?"

The Cave of Coldshire was one of the key locations in his entire plan. Losing control of it would jeopardize everything.

"According to the report from one of the survivors,he said a group of outsiders attacked them during the Kaoslith preparation."

"Take me to him. Now."

The figure flinched slightly, then nodded and turned.

He led Kelar into the darkness behind the tree and both vanished into the shadows.

"So cold! Brrr!" Bob shivered, wrapped in only a towel. He tiptoed across the room toward the cupboard, searching for his sleepwear.

We were back in our room.

I was already lying on my bed, freshly showered and dried off, staring up at my status screen.

For the past thirty minutes, I’d been doing nothing else.

Because, on the screen in front of me, there was this:

The screen displayed a sleek, circular progress bar with a futuristic design. It was currently at 50%.

"The system’s not done updating yet?" Bob asked, now buttoning up his pajamas.

"Nope," I replied without looking.

He grabbed a piece of bread from the table, flopped onto his bed face-down, and pulled up his own status screen.

"Man, I can’t wait to check the new packs... especially that secret one," he said, voice muffled into the sheets.

That’s always our routine when we level up, check the newly unlocked ten packs and tear into our level-up rewards. But this unexpected system update had really killed the momentum.

My eyelids were starting to get heavy.

"Wake me up when the update’s done," I muttered, closing my screen and turning to face the wall.

While I was in a hypnagogic state, drifting between sleep and wakefulness, I was suddenly jolted by a shake on my body.

"Alan... Alan!"

"Huh? What?" I turned to Bob groggily.

"The system’s already done updat—euww! You’ve got drool on your face. Go wash up first."

I immediately got up, headed to the bathroom, and splashed water on my face. The cold water cleared the last of my sleepiness, and I felt refreshed again.

When I came back, I sat on the carpet between our beds. As I opened my status screen, it merged with Bob’s, expanding to fill the space.

Basically, this system will keep getting upgraded based on our experiences using it.

For the first update, the Super Novice class. I have mixed feelings about it. It means that to use the four advanced spells, I now have to switch to that class first. Previously, I could use the spells even without equipping any classes.

As for Dash Slash, it’s a physical skill, so it can still be used with any class as long as you know how to execute it.

The second update feels more like a way for the system to make us purchase more their products. I bet Bob will fall victim to that scheme sooner or later.

The third update though, that’s actually the only one I think is positive. We have a lot of cards that are low rarity and basically useless. Now, we finally have a way to remove them and obtain BP.

He immediately opened the [Shop] section and navigated to the [Booster Pack] tab, where ten new packs had been added.

"Hmm... looks like these ten new packs have a higher chance of pulling SR cards," he said as we examined the options. Each pack had a unique color and illustration. The pull rates for the latest packs now ranged from Rare to SR.

"But first, let’s pull the level-up reward," I said as I tapped on the [Level-Up Reward] button.
