Boom!

Suddenly, the groups of bats were consumed by a large fire.

Screech!

Most of the creatures writhed in pain as their bodies charred and burned. Some managed to evade and rejoined the swarm circling the shelter.

Evelyn and Maya looked to the side and saw me clinging awkwardly at the edge of the roof. My legs scrambled for footing while both hands strained to pull myself up. Somehow, I had managed to cast Hellfire Burst from that miserable position, though not all the creatures were hit.

"Alan! What are you doing here?" Evelyn cried as she and Maya rushed over, grabbing my arms and hauling me onto the roof.

I dusted myself off and tried to act cool. "Of course, I came to help my friends in need."

"We're not so desperate that we need your help in every situation," Maya muttered, slightly annoyed. She was an adventurer too, with pride of her own. Even if she admitted that Bob and I were strong, she still wanted to prove herself as someone not too far behind us, at least one or two steps below.

I then focused on the others fighting on the ground. From up here, I could see everything clearly. Aside from Linus, Bob, and Beltimore, most of them seemed fine, but the other members were clearly struggling against the swarm.

"It looks like the swarms are targeting those who are weaker. We need to help them quickly," Evelyn said, aiming her bow at the creatures swarming Selene's group. Maya nodded and began chanting a spell.

"Wait a minute! Save your arrows and mana. I've got the perfect tool for this situation." I grinned.

Maya and Evelyn glanced at each other, confused, before staring back at me and my mischievous smile.

Actually, I had two reasons for climbing up here. First, obviously, I wanted to help my friends. Nothing unusual about that.

But the second reason? I wanted to test out the new card I'd just received from leveling up. I opened my status and reread the card details.

---

[Darksteel Arcgun]

Rarity: Rare

Type: Artillery

– High-caliber auto-cannon made for siege defense

Only one can be activated at a time.

---

I immediately pressed it again and suddenly...

Boom!

A massive turret materialized on top of the floor, making the entire roof tremble under its weight. I could only hope the structure would hold.

The arcgun was pitch black, and as its name suggested, forged from steel. It towered over me at nearly two meters tall, its long, sleek caliber gleaming ominously. At its base was a circular platform, allowing it to rotate freely in a full 360 degrees.

Only one word escaped my mouth.

"Amazing!"

My eyes sparkled with excitement. I had only ever seen cannons in museums before, and those were always outdated, ancient designs. But this, this was futuristic, unlike anything I had ever laid eyes on. If the nations back in my world knew about it, they'd be itching to claim it for themselves.

"Alan, w-what is this?" Evelyn asked, her voice tinged with awe as she reached out to touch the cannon.

"This must be another one of your crazy things, isn't it? At this point, I can't keep up with you two anymore," Maya sighed, though there was no hiding that she too was impressed. She was already used to us pulling out something straight out of another world.

"Hehehe. This is the Darksteel Arcgun. It's a kind of turret. Let's see how this thing works." I muttered, running my hands along its surface, searching for any kind of button or switch. But after nearly thirty seconds of fumbling around, nothing happened.

"Are you sure this thing even works? Or is it just decoration?" Maya's voice carried a sharp edge of irritation.

"No! This thing has to work. There must be some way to activate it!" I insisted, feeling sweat bead on my forehead under the weight of both girls' skeptical stares.

Another thirty seconds passed.

Maya sighed and shook her head. "Looks useless to me. Eve, let's go help Selene's group." She walked toward the roof's edge, her focus shifting back to the battle. Evelyn lingered for a moment, giving me one last look before reluctantly following her.

"Damn it! How do I get this thing to work?" I slumped to the ground, wiping my forehead with disappointment. I must have looked like a complete idiot in front of those two.

"Come on, cannon… I just want you to target the creatures above us," I whispered quietly.

Suddenly, as if hearing my words, the cannon began to glow with a faint blue light. The hum of energy pulsed through its frame as its systems came alive. The barrel rotated smoothly, locking onto the swarm above Selene's group.

BOOM!

The loud blast shook the entire shelter. Maya and Evelyn flinched, covering their ears, while I dropped to the ground, pressing my palms against mine. Every adventurer turned their eyes upward, staring wide-eyed at the smoking weapon perched on the roof.

Splash!

The creature that was about to strike Alia splattered into green blood, its body torn apart in an instant.

But it didn't stop there.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The cannon unleashed its fury relentlessly. With every thunderous shot, two or three bats burst into chunks of blood and flesh, raining down from above.

Evelyn and Maya stood back beside me, their eyes wide as they watched the monstrous weapon dominate the battlefield. It was controlling the entire area single-handedly.

"Seriously, Alan, where do you even get all these ridiculous things?" Maya asked, trying hard to keep her composure.

"We could win the tournament with this cannon alone, right, Maya?" Evelyn added with a nervous laugh.

"Of course not! Do you want to start a war?!" Maya shot back sharply.

I ignored their bickering, my grin stretching wide as I watched the cannon work,

every time another blast found its mark.

"Alan! What is that thing?!" a voice suddenly shouted from below. I leaned over the edge and spotted Bob and Linus staring up at us.

"This is my new card, the Arcgun!" I yelled back, nearly having to shout over the weapon's deafening roar.

"Arcgun? That's so cool! How do I get up there?" Bob's eyes sparkled with pure excitement, his voice filled with awe.

Not long after, he managed to climb up. And the moment he laid eyes on the turret, his expression mirrored mine eyes gleaming like a child seeing a festival firework for first time

"When did you buy this card, Alan? I don't remember us purchasing any new packs. Did you open it without me?" Bob asked suspiciously.

"Of course not. This one came from a level-up pack," I explained.

"I see… but does this thing shoot endlessly like that? If it does, then it's overpowered as hell! We could literally go to war with this cannon!" Bob's voice was filled with exhilaration.

"Why do you always think about war? No. I'll only use this cannon for self-defense," I said firmly.

Bob slumped in disappointment, his face falling like a sulking child denied candy.

Before long, the rest of the party gathered on the roof with us, every one of them equally stunned and amazed by the Arcgun.

Me and Bob cheering everytime the cannon hit the targets.

Fifteen minutes later, the swarm finally retreated, the air clear again after countless of their kind were slaughtered.

Just as the tension began to fade, a sharp sound heard like something breaking. Then came the sudden scream from inside the shelter.
