Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 522: Capsizing in the Gutter
Chapter 522: Chapter 522: Capsizing in the Gutter
Just as Wufu had gone missing, creating havoc in Chengdu Prefecture, far away in Huayang County at the Wu Family residence, Madam Zhou awoke from a dream with a start and called out.
"Madam." Qiu Xiang, who was resting on the outer couch, immediately brought a lamp over, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing much, I just had a bad dream and felt a bit restless," said Madam Zhou, rubbing her chest and frowning.
Qiu Xiang took the teapot from the warmer and poured her a cup of Longan Tea, "Madam, don’t be afraid, it’s just a dream after all."
Madam Zhou took a sip and handed it back, looking out the window into pitch darkness, something seemed to be falling, a hint of cold air seeped in through the gaps in the window, prompting her to pull the blanket around her body tightly.
"Is it snowing outside again?" she murmured.
Qiu Xiang walked over, cracked the window slightly to take a peek, saw big snowflakes falling, and the north wind howling, carrying the cold air inside, then she swiftly closed the window and returned.
"Indeed, it’s snowing heavily, like goose feathers," Qiu Xiang said with a smile, "Madam truly has sharp senses."
Madam Zhou smiled and suddenly didn’t feel sleepy anymore. She propped herself up against the headboard and said, "I used to live near the mountains, grew accustomed to it, the sound of snowfall was always audible."
Qiu Xiang sat on a small stool beside her, quietly listening to her talk.
With an audience attentive to her words, Madam Zhou was encouraged and began to talk at length about the past, her face showing a mix of nostalgia and sadness, a complex array of emotions.
"Madam is a person with good fortune to come. Your daughter is also filial to you. Life is nothing to worry about, much better than many others! Just look at our neighbors; they couldn’t possibly compare to you. Take Madam Ma for example, she’s wealthy enough, yet isn’t she troubled by those annoying mistresses prancing before her eyes?" Qiu Xiang consoled her.
Madam Zhou nodded with a smile, "Yes, I now live a life I never dared to dream of before. I used to think..."
She didn’t continue.
In fact, she had thought she would have to live in a sunken pit for her entire life; she never expected that life could turn upside down so suddenly.
Now, she lived with her daughter, surrounded by servants, with food and a warm house at her disposal, unlike the past when her feet would probably freeze while sleeping.
"I wonder when Wufu will come back? It’s going to be New Year soon!" Madam Zhou changed the subject.
Qiu Xiang replied, "Didn’t the young miss say that the competition has ended, and she wanted to spend a few more days in The Capital? I reckon she should be back in a few days!"
"Hmm!" Madam Zhou’s eyebrows relaxed. She said, "Let’s sleep, it’s cold, don’t catch a chill!" freёwebnoѵel.com
Qiu Xiang hurriedly got up, helped her lie down, took the lamp outside, and blew it out.
Madam Zhou lay in bed, her eyes open, gazing at the canopy above her. After a while, she finally fell asleep.
The Wufu she mentioned, however, was slowly opening her eyes, feeling a slight pain in her shoulders and her head was somewhat heavy and fuzzy.
As she opened her eyes, it was dark and icy cold, the air somewhat damp, and the chilling breath was quite uncomfortable. Looking up, there were tiny gaps in the flooring, through which faint light seeped through.
Wufu felt weak all over. She closed her eyes, waiting for her head to clear up a bit, and then she slightly moved her body, realizing her hands were tied behind her back with rope, and her legs were bound as well.
She kept her eyes closed, her mind recalling the events of the day. Once her memory had fully returned, she opened her eyes and squeezed a curse through her clenched teeth, "Fuck! Capsized in the gutter!"
