Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1450 - 1388: Courtesy Before Force
Regarding the family background of his youngest disciple, Old Mr. Meng had always been concerned. He had been waiting for Wufu to come to him for help, but despite waiting and waiting, she hadn’t said a word. Instead, he vaguely heard about all the messy affairs of the Wu Family and suspected that his disciple’s handiwork was not absent.
He openly said he would back up his disciple as long as she spoke up, but she acted as if she didn’t have this mentor, never complaining or showing any grievance, which made him, as the mentor, quite uncomfortable!
Other disciples desperately wish for their mentor to step in, but she seems to have provided for only the mentor, feeling very much like a hero with no place to display their talents!
A bit displeased, indeed!
"Wufu, I am your mentor!" Old Mr. Meng said once more, "You can speak up about any grievances you have. You’re not without support."
His words carried a hint of longing!
Wufu replied, "You are indeed my mentor, I remember, but what does that have to do with the Wu Family?"
"What do you think?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Wufu thought for a moment, sat down, and said, "To kill a chicken, you don’t need an ox knife. If a disciple can handle it, there’s no need for you, Master, to step in!"
"Do you see me as a mentor who’s just an ornament?"
"Not at all, it’s just unnecessary!" Wufu shook her head and said, "The Wu Family isn’t worth troubling you, Master. I can handle it myself!"
"Oh? I heard you slapped that Wu Family girl in public?" Old Mr. Meng raised his eyebrows.
Wufu muttered with lowered eyes, "If I told you about the things I’ve done in private, it would scare you to death!"
Old Mr. Meng’s eyelids twitched.
"Your mother is now in Changan, and she is pregnant as well, tearing like this is not good for the reputation of you two, mother and daughter. It’s better to resolve it earlier."
Wufu had a faint smile at the corner of her mouth, "Before I came, I ran into them wanting to reconcile!"
Old Mr. Meng looked at her, and Wufu then explained her plan.
"You wish to clear your and your mother’s names, but suing your father isn’t the only way. S suing your father might be considered deeply unfilial by some traditionalists. I know you don’t care about this reputation, but your mother likely wouldn’t want to see you and Wu Lihong in court; after all, he is your birth father!" Old Mr. Meng pondered for a moment and said, "Besides, she is now pregnant, and if she gives birth to a son, will anyone bring this matter up in the future when he wants to take imperial examinations?"
Wufu’s brow furrowed.
"To completely sever ties with them, you don’t always have to be so sharp, putting yourself at the center of attention. There are many ways to resolve matters, not always using the method that harms the enemy by a thousand at a cost of eight hundred to oneself. Ignoring reputation is one thing, but good reputation is always better than bad, especially since you plan to become the Princess Consort of Beiyan; therefore, you should cherish your reputation more." Old Mr. Meng slowly advised.
Wufu pursed her lips and asked, "What does Master think the disciple should do?"
"Clearing your name by yourself isn’t impossible, but wouldn’t it be more satisfying if the other party clears your name for you? Since they have the intention to reconcile, it shows they are already afraid, willing to yield. You might as well use this to your advantage, resolving the matter peacefully. Thus, even if outsiders find out, they can’t say anything against you, and you wouldn’t bear the reputation of suing your father as unfilial; you might even gain a name for righteousness. If they don’t behave, then you can employ more forceful methods — this is to be courteous before resorting to force..."
Wufu calmly listened to Old Mr. Meng’s cunning advice, her mind as if struck by enlightenment, becoming increasingly clear-headed.
