Doted By The Regent King-Chapter 1445 - 1383: Injustice
Madam Wang’s caning of the servants in the residence didn’t have much deterrent effect. Instead, it led to some harboring resentment, allowing a few thieves to break into the Wu Residence. The stories about which courtyards they appeared in sounded convincing, once again placing the Wu Residence at the center of gossip, as if Wu Lihong was being humiliated with one green hat after another.
Even though the Wu Family denied it, claiming the thieves just got lost in the front yard due to rumors spread by those bearing grudges, many ladies of the gentry house were not convinced.
No matter what, such rumors implied that the Matriarch was not managing the household effectively, suggesting that Madam Wang was incompetent. As for her daughter, like mother like daughter, the Wu Family’s eldest daughter’s suitability to become a Legitimate Wife and Clan Matron was questionable.
Of this, Madam Wang and others were temporarily unaware, focused only on resolving the current situation and restoring everything to its original state.
Thus, at Old Madam Wu’s guidance, Madam Wang prepared exceedingly sumptuous gifts, and after Wu Lihong returned from the Yamen, they went to Changqing Residence for negotiations.
Coincidentally, just as they arrived at the side gate of Changqing Residence, they saw Wufu about to go out, accompanied by an outstanding man.
Unlike Madam Wang and her group, who had dark circles under their eyes, Wufu seemed refreshingly full of energy, radiant and unrestrained after a good night’s sleep.
Madam Wang’s eyes reddened with envy. Her daughter was suffering, yet this little wench appeared so radiant; how could she feel any sense of fairness?
Old Madam Wu coughed heavily as a warning, giving Madam Wang a glance, and Madam Wang quickly lowered her head.
Old Madam Wu shook her head. This daughter-in-law still didn’t understand the situation. She looked at the young girl again, and despite her anger and resentment, she couldn’t deny that Wufu was remarkably outstanding.
Not because of her extraordinary looks, but her whole demeanor—bold, free, graceful yet unrestrained, bright and audacious.
Such a person would never be thought to have come from the countryside. Even Old Madam Wu, who was from a humble background, doubted whether this girl was really raised by someone like Madam Zhou.
This poise and temperament simply didn’t match, not something a gentle woman could cultivate, but rather what one would expect from a Legitimate Daughter meticulously brought up in a prestigious family.
Old Madam Wu sighed, feeling both sour and resentful inside.
Their gaze was fervent; Wufu couldn’t be unaware. She turned her head, seeing several people getting off the carriage, raised an eyebrow—today, the whole family came together!
But were they here to demand explanations or to negotiate peace?
Wufu glanced at the smiling Wu Lihong and Old Madam Wu, inwardly sneering, negotiations?
"Are they the ones?" Ah Jiu asked.
"Yes, take a look at them, my so-called biological father and grandmother!" Wufu replied. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Since you don’t acknowledge them, calling him Lord Wu and her Old Madam is elevating them," Ah Jiu said with hands behind his back, coldly watching them approach. "What are they planning to do by coming here?"
He knew the events of last night well and understood Wufu’s background even better. He had no good impression of the Wu Family.
Especially when he looked at the woman supporting the old lady. Ah Jiu’s deep gaze narrowed, and the coldness shot toward her like sharp arrows.
This woman finds Wufu an eyesore and wants to kill her!
How audacious!
"Whether they’re here to pick a fight or negotiate, I’m not afraid of them," Wufu shrugged, sensing Ah Jiu’s hostility towards Madam Wang. "Madam Wang has her own fate awaiting her; you don’t need to intervene."
Ah Jiu snorted lightly, waiting to see what would unfold.
