Don't Mess with That Dragon-Chapter 645 - 33 Ridiculous Belief (Third Update)
Edward was born into nobility, making him the least qualified to comment on these matters.
As a member of the aristocracy, he was well aware of the deeds those born with so-called noble blood were capable of in this nearly solidified class world.
Harboring resentment, he embraced the enemy.
However, to his surprise, Valen denied his words.
"Perhaps that's part of the reason, but that's not the real main reason."
Valen's voice was low, narrating gently.
His eyes became slightly red.
"On that escape route, perhaps fate favored me, as I ultimately survived. An old man found me amidst a pile of rotting vagabonds and took me in. Although he later beat and scolded me, I am still very grateful to him because he gave me a way to live, taught me skills, allowed me to grow and find my place, and take charge of my future, no longer drifting aimlessly like when I was young."
"Edward, you ask me if I hate the Evil Dragon that destroyed my homeland, if I hate the Beastmen who killed my friends during my mercenary days. There's no doubt about it!"
"I've been here for eighteen years. For the first thirteen years, I was in a forced labor camp. Eventually, one by one, my companions surrendered and sided with Gory, striving for the tribe's expansion, but I never surrendered because I held onto the hatred from back then."
"But so what!"
"Five years ago, the tribe expanded and came into contact with the vagabonds who crossed the Border Great Wall to reclaim land in the Kawa Great Forest. Do you know what they did? They distributed food to those strangers, organized them to cultivate and farm, and build homes. With a broad heart, they accepted the vagabonds, allowing them to settle and have a stable home!"
Valen's eyes were bloodshot, like an impending furious lion, and his tone became intense.
"They are Beastmen! The Beastmen we called wicked! But they accomplished what those high and mighty figures wouldn't do even if it meant burying the food in the ground rather than distributing it to the vagabonds! I thought we were different species from Beastmen, but now I know we are truly of two different worlds from those lofty nobles!"
Valen slowly raised his longsword, pointing it at Edward.
"Edward, you haven't experienced such things; you can't understand that feeling of being saved from despair!"
"From that day on, I swore that I would dedicate my remaining life to this great Kingdom, wielding my longsword for the Kingdom!"
Boom!
His feet stomped on the ground, and immense power erupted, shattering the brick-paved ground instantly.
Simultaneously, a strong and powerful force burst forth, propelling Valen's figure toward Edward, the longsword slicing through the air with a piercing cold light.
"Edward, I've been through that disaster. I deeply felt the struggle of being in the swamp of despair, but I'm a crude person. I don't know how to save those people clinging to life on the edge of starvation. I also can't change this damned world."
"But they can! They can give countless refugees trapped in famine a future and hope, capable of changing this damned world!"
"To you, this tribal force might be the most detestable and hateful Demon that you want to kill immediately, but to those struggling for survival and seeing no future in this world, it's a rare glimmer of hope!"
"Before I fall, I will never allow you to destroy it, even if its founders are the Giant Dragon and Beastmen I once hated the most!"
"Even if one day, I go down to Hell,
give up the honor of being human, and face accusations and disdain from thousands in my homeland... I will still hold the longsword in my hand, forever guarding at the forefront of this Kingdom!"
In the darkness, the heart toward the light!
As if sensing the fervent conviction within Valen, the longsword in his hand emitted an unprecedented brilliant light, like a falling star with overwhelming momentum, piercing through the void, rushing swiftly toward Edward!
Rumble!!!
A fierce collision erupted, a thousand-pound force of Fighting Qi exploded, transforming into countless sharp Sword Qi tearing through the space, with a sharp whistling, shooting in all directions.
Like a fierce storm, in the instant of the "Sharp Sword Laser" bombardment, the contained strong Fighting Qi simultaneously detonated, dissipating throughout the sky, flooding out like a tide around the surroundings.
Under the continuous sweep of Fighting Qi, the roof of the corridor hall fell apart piece by piece, crumbling in ruins, with countless fragmented tiles falling rain-like, stirring up massive dust.
The golden pillars around also bore visible marks under the tangible Fighting Qi gale.
The fierce battle erupted again!
And this time,
Valen, with his blazing strong faith, under the dazzling light of Fighting Qi, suppressed Edward step by step!
...
At the same time, deep within the Dragon's Nest.
"This guy..."
Austin, sensing everything happening outside in his heart,
also felt a touch of emotion toward Valen's intense conviction.
That pure belief was absolutely from the heart; Austin couldn't be deceived.
In this world, there are always some silly people that make you feel amused, adhering to things that seem laughable, yet they earn sincere respect from the heart.
If placed in the same situation, Austin wouldn't have such beliefs.
Thinking selfishly, even if there were more refugees in this world, more impoverished humans struggling on the brink of life and death, what relevance would they have to Valen?
With his current skills, secretly leaving the Dragon Nest Tribe isn't impossible, saving up money later, marrying a wife, having offspring, and then transmitting his wealth and skills to his descendants. With a little effort in education, their future lifestyle would be worlds apart from those living in poverty among the peasants.
Even further, gaining military merits by enlisting in today's Central Earth World, becoming part of the privileged class, achieving the status once seemingly high above as a noble, isn't impossible at all.
One could say, even if Valen now became penniless, with his skills, he wouldn't worry about starving to death.
Becoming part of the privileged class, he and the peasants are now worlds apart.
The fate of those peasants has no relation to him anymore.
But in his heart, he still keeps those struggling peasants, those numerous impoverished peasants in mind, willing to sacrifice all his life to protect that future and hope.
Because he has experienced darkness,
he spontaneously guards the light that illuminates the way for those in darkness!
This guy called Valen,
after years of being a mercenary with vast experiences, has long abandoned the naïvety of youth, yet in his heart, he holds onto this seemingly laughable belief and conviction.
He is not a Saint, unable to make everyone noble, unable to resolve widespread famine, making everyone live a life of warmth and happiness.
But he is willing to give up everything, using his power,
to protect the existence that brings hope to those in despair,
what a lovable fool.
