Doctor and His Glamorous Sister-in-Law-Chapter 599 - 602 Playing the Rogue
Liu Ergou quickly figured out the answer to his question. Most likely, he had been so preoccupied with checking the progress of his body-refining technique that he’d completely missed Swallow Li feeding him medicine.
Just as Liu Ergou was pondering this, Swallow Li suddenly spoke up. "I think I might know where this Xuanyuan True Qi of yours came from!"
Upon hearing this, Liu Ergou immediately looked up at Swallow Li. Seeing the expectant look in his eyes, Swallow Li, though quite annoyed, still shared his speculation.
"I’m afraid this has something to do with the story I told you before, about the Xuanyuan Family!"
No sooner had he spoken than Orange Bear and Lu Shuangyue, who were sitting beside them, lit up. They produced a bag of snacks from nowhere and turned their gaze expectantly toward Swallow Li. Their intense stares made Swallow Li involuntarily wipe the cold sweat from his forehead.
"Hey, why are you two so nosy!" Swallow Li said to Lu Shuangyue and Orange Bear, clearly irritated. "This is a serious matter! You two, act properly!"
However, his words had no effect. Lu Shuangyue and Orange Bear remained in their snack-ready, story-time posture. Seeing this, Swallow Li could only ignore them and continue with his guess.
"When I was a kid, my master told me that there was once an internal strife within the Xuanyuan Family. This rebellion was started by the side branches. They killed the members of the main lineage and took their place."
"But not everyone from the main lineage was wiped out; one or two managed to escape."
"Speaking of which, the old man you encountered was very likely a member of the main lineage, and he was the one who taught you Xuanyuan True Qi."
At this point, Swallow Li lowered his head and started muttering to himself again.
"But then again, something about this still doesn’t seem quite right. From what I understand, Xuanyuan True Qi is never to be passed on to outsiders, and the members of the main lineage view this rule as sacred as their own lives. So why would he pass the technique on to you? Moreover, he used the Dream-entering Method. You should know that this kind of method is beyond the capabilities of even an Innate Grandmaster!"
Watching Swallow Li mutter to himself, Liu Ergou suddenly asked, "Um, Senior Swallow Li, may I ask, what is the status of your Flying Swallow Sect within the Ancient Martial Sects?"
The unrelated question caught Swallow Li completely off guard. He was stunned for several seconds before he said, somewhat embarrassedly, "Ahem, well... uh... I guess it counts as third-rate. But you can’t blame the Flying Swallow Sect for that. The current era just isn’t suitable for us..."
Before Swallow Li could finish, Liu Ergou interrupted him.
"Oh, third-rate. Even in the normal world, that sounds like it would be at the bottom. In that case, it makes sense that you’d be at the bottom of the Ancient Martial Sects as well. It’s perfectly normal for a third-rate sect to be unaware of certain things, so you shouldn’t get so hung up on this matter!"
Although Swallow Li was a little angry after hearing Liu Ergou’s words, on second thought, it seemed he was right. The Flying Swallow Sect was indeed not what it used to be, so it was probably normal for them to be out of the loop on some things. Still, Swallow Li couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t quite right, though he couldn’t put his finger on what it was. After mulling it over, he finally had no choice but to accept Liu Ergou’s explanation.
Seeing that Swallow Li had nothing more to say, Liu Ergou very decisively began seeing his guests out. After all, he had learned everything he needed to know. Keeping them around would just be asking for trouble.
Besides, this man is Sun Gang’s teacher and is much stronger than me. If he decided to kill me, there’s not much I could do about it. It’s better if he leaves sooner. After he’s gone, I can discuss a plan with Lu Shuangyue and see if we can find the Patrol Bureau to ask for their protection.
"Ahem, well, Senior Swallow Li, since we’ve all learned what we needed to, let’s just part ways here," Liu Ergou said. "There’s really nothing left for us to talk about. So, until we meet again!"
With that, Liu Ergou quickly stood up, walked to the office door, and pulled it open with a beaming smile, clearly showing them out.
However, Liu Ergou had miscalculated. After hearing his words, Swallow Li showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he just stared at Liu Ergou with a strange expression.
This made Liu Ergou’s heart skip a beat.
What does he mean by that? Does he want to kill me?
Just as Liu Ergou’s heart was pounding with unease, Swallow Li finally spoke.
"Kid, are you that eager to see us leave? You’re not interested in learning more about the Ancient Martial Sects? Or perhaps learning a move or two from me?"
Hearing this, Liu Ergou flatly refused.
"No, no, I, Liu Ergou, am just an ordinary person. I have zero interest in the Ancient Martial Sects. Besides, what kind of fighting skills does a doctor need to learn? What I know is enough to get by, and being able to treat patients in the future is all I want! I may not have many good qualities, but at least I’m not greedy! So, please!"
As he spoke, Liu Ergou gestured toward the open door.
His words made Swallow Li’s expression darken. He had assumed that a newcomer like Liu Ergou would be intensely curious about the Ancient Martial Sects and would be pestering him with questions. He never expected this kid to go completely off-script, not only decisively refusing him but also trying to get him to leave early.
What the heck!
At that thought, two intersecting veins popped on Swallow Li’s forehead.
"Frick! You want me to leave, is that it? Well, I’m not going anywhere today! If you’ve got the guts, throw me out!"
After saying that, Swallow Li leaned back on the sofa, making it clear he had no intention of leaving.
Seeing this, Liu Ergou was dumbfounded. He never thought a master like Swallow Li would resort to acting like a rogue. It was so undignified!
Off to the side, the jaws of Orange Bear and Lu Shuangyue dropped in shock. They looked at each other, momentarily speechless.
Liu Ergou, watching the stubborn Swallow Li, hesitated for a moment before cautiously speaking up. "That’s not it, Senior Swallow Li. You’re a master, after all. It doesn’t look good for such a grandmaster to be playing the rogue, does it?"
Unexpectedly, Liu Ergou’s words only made Swallow Li double down, retorting with self-righteous indignation.
"Playing the rogue? When did I play the rogue? I just don’t feel like leaving! I told you, if you think I’m in the way, then throw me out! Understand?"
Looking at Swallow Li’s utterly unyielding demeanor, Liu Ergou thought for a moment and then it clicked.
