Chapter 1981: Chapter 1982: Conclusion

Compared to the Flame Wolfhound and Giant Vine Turtle, which can rotate and strengthen their teammates, Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound are still somewhat inexperienced. Unfortunately, now that the Giant Vine Turtle has been knocked out, it’s not easy for the Flame Wolfhound to turn the tide on its own.

Sweeping its gaze over the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound and Xiao Ji, the Flame Wolfhound set its sights on the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound. Due to the recent collision, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound suffered significant damage, making it currently the weakest.

Only because of its strong fighting spirit, it was not apparent at first.

The Flame Wolfhound can sense the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s weakness. However, its condition is not great either. Facing the combined attack of Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, no matter how strong it is, it will likely lose in the end, but...

Squinting, the Flame Wolfhound slightly crouched before suddenly charging forward. Even if defeated, it wants to take down an opponent first!

Faced with the sudden assault from the Flame Wolfhound, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound instinctively tried to evade, yet it was hit by Flame Charge plus Flame Bite. Although Feng Yuan hadn’t signed a Taming Beast Contract with the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, he could leverage Tamur’s power to transfer it.

After being critically wounded by the Flame Wolfhound, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound lost its fighting ability. Tamur’s Spatial Transfer was unimpeded, successfully relocating the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound to Feng Yuan’s side.

Lying on the ground, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound whimpered softly, unable to move. The Flame Wolfhound’s attack came too suddenly, leaving it no way to react properly. While deploying its Healing Moves, Tamur glanced at the Flame Wolfhound; although the opponent’s condition wasn’t bad, and with the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound out of the picture, it’s now a one-on-one duel with Xiao Ji.

Still, neither Tamur nor Feng Yuan held high hopes for the Flame Wolfhound, considering Xiao Ji had hardly suffered any damage, and defeating Xiao Ji would be quite challenging for the Flame Wolfhound.

The outcome was not surprising to anyone; though Xiao Ji appeared somewhat disheveled in face of the Flame Wolfhound’s fierce assault, it still managed to defeat the Flame Wolfhound.

Asking Tamur for quick healing of their spirit beasts, Feng Yuan amusingly began explaining the flaws in Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s battle.

On the side, Zhang Cheng found Feng Yuan’s analysis quite interesting. However, as Feng Yuan mentioned, the shortcomings displayed by the Flame Wolfhound and Giant Vine Turtle in battle weren’t really shortcomings at all.

While energy could be spent to address them, it would be better to enhance strength as swiftly as possible.

Just like Veronia rarely studies tactics, at that level of strength, few tactics are truly effective.

Feng Yuan merely highlighted Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s habitual issues, without discussing overly detailed matters because it’s unnecessary. Different spirit beasts have distinct battle habits, and their approach adapts to the environment. Feng Yuan doesn’t want to confine Xiao Ji and the others to a fixed combat style.

Especially with Xiao Ji, a relatively unique entity capable of mastering types of ultimate moves, it serves as both an attacker and a supporter or teammate helper when needed.

With Tamur’s assistance, Zhang Cheng’s spirit beasts quickly recovered, while Feng Yuan looked for other opponents to battle. That night, many were surprised to find that Feng Yuan, who usually dodged battles, had become a "battle enthusiast"?

Returning to the campsite at night, Feng Yuan glanced at Xiao Ji, who appeared satisfied, and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound, who seemed disgruntled, feeling somewhat amused. Xiao Ji’s victories were plentiful due to its sheer prowess, yet the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound was different.

Even though it’s a wild spirit beast, its strength is superior to that of ordinary Beastmasters in some ways, as they lack an abundance of battle experience. However, the students of Maomu Academy aren’t ordinary people either.

Thus, tonight the team pairing of Fluffy Fire Wolfhound and Xiao Ji turned the former into the weak link, as other students, aware of Feng Yuan’s strength, wouldn’t actively attack him. This prevented the typical strategy of Beastmaster duels involving direct assaults on the Beastmaster.

Without the Beastmaster constraint, not only could Xiao Ji and others fight freely, but the opponents wouldn’t show weaknesses by focusing attacks on the Beastmaster.

Facing two strong opponents, any team would reasonably prioritize taking out the weaker one, let alone considering the poor coordination between Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound.

There’s no choice; both are considered strong attackers by nature. Xiao Ji opted for this, while the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound inherently masters mostly attack-based ultimate moves.

This prevents them from complementing each other well, like the Flame Wolfhound and Giant Vine Turtle. Although they can swap team roles halfway, the Giant Vine Turtle’s aid strengthens the Flame Wolfhound’s attack capabilities.

However, this differs from when the Giant Vine Turtle assists the Flame Wolfhound; it merely enhanced the latter’s attacking prowess.

But there’s no help for it; like the Flame Wolfhound, the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound can’t master many support ultimate moves. Although there are group amplifying ultimate moves like Rally Howl, those mostly increase physical attack capabilities. On top of that, the Giant Vine Turtle itself doesn’t excel in such attack methods.

Though ultimate moves like Vine Frenzy Attack visually and in attribute seem to be physical attacks, they’re essentially a form of energy attack, influenced by a spirit beast’s energy attack rather than physical attack prowess.

This makes Flame Wolfhound’s assisting ultimate moves hardly beneficial for enhancing the Giant Vine Turtle’s status.

Of course, under normal circumstances, the Flame Wolfhound wouldn’t assist the Giant Vine Turtle either, as team roles aren’t changeable on a whim. Except for spirit beasts like Xiao Ji, who develop comprehensively to the zenith at this stage, others have specialties. Forcing them to relinquish their strengths is asking for trouble.

"What’s up with you today?"

Noticing Feng Yuan isn’t resting but is petting the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound by the campfire, Qi Chen asks in confusion. Today, Feng Yuan behaved quite aggressively, battling almost every classmate capable of combat. Moreover, different from his usual propensity to let Xiao Ji play freely, Feng Yuan occasionally commanded Xiao Ji and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound.

Turning to Qi Chen, Feng Yuan gently tapped the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s head and pressed its ears, saying

"Of course, it’s about getting them accustomed to team dynamics. Even though I might not take action, if they truly sync, it’ll be great."

Feng Yuan had already decided that the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound would be his second tamed beast. His current uncertainty is whether they truly match.

Given his lack of limitations in choosing spirit beasts, he hopes the second beast will be a compatible friend rather than filling a team gap.

Seeing Qi Chen puzzled, Feng Yuan gently held the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s ears and said

"The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound naturally enjoys fighting; this trait is quite similar to Xiao Ji. However, their roles overlap, and the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s talent means it can’t change roles, so I’m testing whether they can fight side by side."

Since both love battling, Feng Yuan can’t favor one over the other, necessitating their joint team efforts. Yet their role conflict leaves Feng Yuan unsure if prolonged exposure will spark actual disputes.

Nonetheless, based on tonight’s battles, Feng Yuan felt slightly relieved. Though the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound loves fighting, it seems better suited to assist in combat or operate in a secondary attacker role.

Despite this role partially conflicting with Xiao Ji, the impact isn’t very significant.

Qi Chen isn’t aware of these matters as he and Ah Mu were also battling with classmates tonight, oblivious to Feng Yuan’s situation. Hearing this, Qi Chen worriedly glanced at the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound beside Feng Yuan

"So?"

"So far, pretty good. Cooperation isn’t fantastic, but no real disputes have arisen."

Releasing the Fluffy Fire Wolfhound’s ears, Feng Yuan smiled and said.
