Chapter 117: Chapter 117 Encountering Teacher Yan_1
"What’s up?"
When Feng Yuan approached, the robust and fierce-looking man glanced at him and asked. Feng Yuan looked at Yang Hongzhi and said,
"Nothing, just accompanying him on patrol–"
The robust and fierce-looking man took a look at Xiao Ji, who was curiously staring at him from atop Feng Yuan’s head, then at the Dreaming Dragon Baby lying motionless on Feng Yuan’s shoulder, and finally at Najia, whose strength was indiscernible but didn’t seem to be formidable. He smirked disdainfully and said,
"You? Stop kidding. This isn’t child’s play. Go on, go away. Don’t come here and get in our way for no reason."
"Hongzhi, is he your friend? Tell him not to make trouble. We don’t have time to protect others!"
"Well..."
"Tch, you sound like you’re something special. I don’t need your protection!"
"Suit yourself!"
The robust and fierce-looking man glared at Feng Yuan and left after dropping those words to Yang Hongzhi, who said to Feng Yuan with resigned helplessness,
"The captain doesn’t know your strength. If you really want to patrol with me, I can talk to the captain."
"It’s not like I must patrol with you; I just wanted something to do–"
"Then I’ll go have a word with the captain..."
After saying this, Yang Hongzhi glanced at Najia, sighed, and turned to catch up with the fierce-looking man, murmuring something. Feng Yuan occasionally heard the other man’s roaring voice. After a while, Yang Hongzhi came back and told Feng Yuan,
"Okay, the captain agreed. You just follow me."
Feng Yuan smiled, lifted Najia, and handed it over. Yang Hongzhi hesitated, then finally took Najia with a chuckle and carefully placed it on his shoulder.
"Is that your squad’s uniform, or did they just hand it out temporarily?"
Looking at Yang Hongzhi’s ill-fitting uniform, Feng Yuan asked curiously. Whilst scanning the surroundings, Yang Hongzhi answered,
"It’s temporary. We don’t do squad uniforms."
"Eh? I thought it was your squad uniform. No wonder it looks very similar to the Guard Squad’s uniforms–"
"How could that be? The squads in the school don’t go for uniforms. After all, it’s not necessary."
"Eh?! I was thinking of getting a Wolf God Squad uniform once I get into Maomu Academy. So disappointing."
Seeing Feng Yuan’s mock disappointment, Yang Hongzhi said resignedly,
"The Wolf God Squad uniform you mentioned is the white special clothing you wore before, right? A lot of people in the academy wear similar stuff, not to mention there are even more people dressed like that on the streets. Look."
Feng Yuan followed the direction of Yang Hongzhi’s pointing finger and saw some kids playing dress-up games. One of them wore an outfit similar to Feng Yuan’s, and another had a white wolf head hat on, imitating a wolf’s howl. Feng Yuan scratched his face with his index finger and said with a touch of helplessness,
"It became common so quickly?"
"Well, it is regarded as the Divine Beast that saved Maomu City recently. If there hadn’t been a lack of recorded footage, imitations of the attire of the Five Sages would’ve cropped up too."
"Five Sages? What’s that?"
Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s query, Yang Hongzhi slightly blushed, looked around awkwardly, and whispered,
"You remember when we destroyed the core, the White Wolf Deity used ’Coming of the Future’, right? As the story passed around, it morphed into the Five Sages helping the White Wolf Deity save Maomu City."
"Ha? That’s possible? Didn’t the municipal government debunk it?"
"How do you debunk rumors? It wasn’t made public, anyway, so stories just get more extravagant as they spread."
Looking at Yang Hongzhi’s resigned expression, Feng Yuan said with a mischievous grin,
"So how does it feel to hear others talk about it, O great Sage?"
"Stop making fun of me..."
As they chatted while patrolling near the plaza, Yang Hongzhi occasionally exchanged words with Najia. After a while, Feng Yuan started feeling bored, so he said to Yang Hongzhi,
"Well, I’m off then– Have fun patrolling, O wise Sage–"
Yang Hongzhi exhaled deeply with a speechless look at Feng Yuan’s jest, glanced at Najia on his shoulder, and after Najia serenaded him, Feng Yuan bid Yang Hongzhi farewell and left the plaza with the three little ones.
"Huh? Isn’t that person Teacher Yan?"
Wandering aimlessly down the street with three little critters, Feng Yuan noticed a person ahead carrying bags that looked a lot like Teacher Yan. With a twirl of his eyes, he quietly followed behind the person he suspected was Teacher Yan.
Ding~~~
"Shh~"
Feng Yuan suddenly heard a string of bell sounds by his ear and quickly turned his head to gesture for silence at the Dream Bell, which had appeared beside him without him knowing. As he turned back, he found Teacher Yan looking at him with an amused expression, and Feng Yuan scratched his head as he approached and said,
"Teacher Yan, what are you doing here? I didn’t notice you just now~"
"Is that so? So, you’ve been following me by coincidence?"
"Yeah~ Just happened to be going the same way~"
"Then are you here in the special forces residential area to find someone?"
"Eh! The special forces residential area?!"
Feng Yuan looked surprised as he glanced over Teacher Yan’s shoulder and saw a grand gate at the end of the road with a sign that read, "Maomu City Special Forces Residential Area." Feng Yuan scratched his head awkwardly and said,
"I was just curious about what Teacher Yan was up to~ no other reason~"
Teacher Yan, seeing Lingling shaking its body, sighed and said,
"Alright, do you have nothing to do right now?"
"Pretty much. The city is under martial law, and I don’t know where to go. So many activities have been canceled."
"That’s unavoidable. If you don’t have anything else, you’d better head back."
Feng Yuan neither agreed nor disagreed with Teacher Yan’s words, reached out to touch Lingling’s bell, and said with some confusion,
"Dream Bell is just a Spirit Beast with ’Good Level’ potential, right?"
"It has an owner, so don’t get any wild ideas."
"No, I wasn’t—never mind. I’m off then."
"Hey Yan, you’re here. Is this one of your students?"
Just then, Captain Chen came walking up from behind Feng Yuan and greeted Teacher Yan, then glanced at Feng Yuan and asked,
"Do you have plans later?"
"What’s up, Captain Chen?"
"Nothing, what is it?"
"How about you come join us for a meal? It might be weird to eat with your teacher, but you can pretend this guy isn’t there, eh? Jokes aside, I actually want to double-check some information with you regarding the attack incident."
"The attack incident?!"
Hearing Captain Chen’s words, Teacher Yan looked at Feng Yuan in surprise, and Feng Yuan scratched his head saying,
"I don’t mind. But I won’t be interrupting your gathering, right?"
Seeing Feng Yuan scanning himself and Teacher Yan, Captain Chen laughed heartily and said,
"No worries, it’s just a small get-together. Since you’re free, join us for a meal."
Following Captain Chen into the special forces residential area, Feng Yuan looked around curiously. Noticing Feng Yuan had lagged behind, Teacher Yan sighed, turned around, walked over to him, and patted Feng Yuan on the back, prompting a smile and a quick scratch of the head from Feng Yuan as he tightly followed behind Teacher Yan.
After enjoying a delicious dinner at Captain Chen’s home, Captain Chen’s wife went to tidy up the kitchen utensils. Captain Chen gave Feng Yuan a meaningful look with his eyes, and Feng Yuan followed him into the study. Once the door was closed, Teacher Yan spoke up,
"What trouble have you gone and gotten yourself into now? How come there’s another attack incident?"
"Well, Teacher Yan, could you hold off on that for a second?"
Teacher Yan, with arms folded across his chest and leaning against the wall, watched Feng Yuan, while Captain Chen sighed and said,
"Don’t mind him, I just want to confirm the details about the attack incident in Maomu City with you once more."
After Feng Yuan recounted the incident at the Divination House to Captain Chen, it seemed like Teacher Yan realized his mistake and looked awkwardly at Feng Yuan. Hesitantly and after considering for a moment, Feng Yuan shifted his gaze to Teacher Yan, moved slightly away from him, and quietly pointed out some suspicions about Cha Mu Town to Captain Chen.
Upon hearing Feng Yuan’s words, Captain Chen’s expression changed. Teacher Yan looked at Feng Yuan with disapproval, while Feng Yuan grinned widely, scratching his head and hiding behind Captain Chen.
