Chapter 95: The procedure

The Principal was very excited about Casper’s arrival. Since the day started, he couldn’t just keep quiet and wait for him. That day would be definitely the start of something big, and just to imagine the great things he could do after that made him the more excited.

He kept going back and forth in the laboratory. Talking with the scientists who would take part in that procedure and confirming if they were doing everything correctly, double-checking the resources and tools, and reviewing all the processes.

Even so, the time kept passing very slowly. He was about to tell the Ridires to go get Casper at that exact time, but he couldn’t do such a thing. Hurry would ruin his entire project, after all.

So he waited until dinner time, following Halden’s schedule. It was the same time that Casper usually would go to the Dark Zone, so he had enough time to recover even a little bit.

The wait for the Ridires to bring Casper to him wasn’t the most enjoyable as well, and a bird told him that those stubborn inmates working with him were planning to interfere in the procedure.

Rolvur needed to mobilize a lot of Ridire’s units to protect the laboratory, and he was not so pleased with all those dogs in front of the entrance door of his dearly home.

The grin on his face when the door finally was wide open and the Ridires entered with Casper on their arms could be noticed even with a mask.

He hastily asked for them to put him on top of a bed in a certain room.

There were some computers there, in which the Principal typed some things, with the help of some other assistants. They started to check Casper’s cerebral condition of that day, noting down that he was not in his best state, but anyway Rolvur would not let them stop the procedure.

Other notes were taken by the scientists assisting there, and when it was done they approached the Principal and showed it to him.

"We wouldn’t say that he is in condition for this delicate procedure. There is a lot of things that can go wrong, his body hasn’t recovered fully, and the odds point that, most likely, he can die during this operation."

The Principal took his eyes off the computer screen and looked at the two assistants with disdain. He snorted and brushed off with his hand those words.

"Bullshit. That’s what I hear from you: Bullshit. There are some times when we need to add some variables to our counts. Until now you looked just at his body condition and compared him with an ordinary person, but forgot to take Casper’s potential into consideration.

"He passed through seven days of continuous suffering, pain, and illness. This simple procedure won’t be enough to take him down since he could bear that much."

The Principal was very confident in Casper’s resilience and tolerance. After all those things he saw and made the soldier pass through, he was sure that everything would be awesome.

Rolvur stopped to type in the computer and turned to one of his assistants.

"Also, when you don’t have the results you want in the count, then add another factor if possible."

The two assistants looked at each other apprehensively. One of them dared to ask:

"What kind of factor, sir?"

"Do you remember that drug we were working on...? That one, you know... I think it heals or something..."

"O-Odin?"

"Yeah, this one. We will drug him before the procedure initiate. This way, he will be two times as resilient, and his cerebral condition will be better as well. The drug also can prevent him to die immediately, so if something happens we will have the time to treat him."

The same assistant from before was going to pinpoint something but got interrupted when his co-worker jabbed him with his elbow, pulling him away afterward.

"Ok, sir, we will take the drug and confirm what’s the right dosage for Casper." The Principal nodded for him, satisfied, then continued typing with excitement.

After some time, he was finally done. The mask was totally ready. He reviewed the code lines that the Forger put into it, and they were perfect as always.

It was the first time in the district’s history when a mask would be made for an adult, and it would be an Exiled mask.

Generally, when someone came to the prison, their brown or white masks were just adapted to black. And the same goes for someone who was receiving his white mask when becoming a Jarl.

In the end, the mask you got when you were born will always be with you.

"That’s interesting... That’s amazing! A huge step is about to be made, and I am the one taking this step!" He thought out loud, laughing with himself.

He picked up the mask from where it was. A black mask with the same sad features. A generic, but at the same time unique mask.

"Soon, this mask will be on his face, and I will have total control of him! We will be able to tame him like a dog and teach him what we want! If he has the potential I think he has, then I can go further and further and reach a discovery that will shake the whole world!"

While he was still dreaming and wondering about his next steps and everything that the future held for him, the assistants finally came back and stood beside Rolvur.

They showed him a white box, that he opened slowly, revealing a syringe and a glass bottle.

"The dosage for him should be..." The scientists start to say but got stopped when the Principal raised a finger in front of his lips.

"I don’t need anyone’s opinion. I know how much I need to give to him." He took those items inside the box.

Rolvur prepared the syringe, inserting the needle into the silicone cap of the glass bottle and sucking an amount of the drug.

One of the scientists couldn’t keep quiet anymore and argued.

"S-sir, that’s the double that you should be using on..."

"Silence!" The Principal yelled, drawing the attention of everyone there. He returned with his usual posture, tidying up the lab coat and pretending not to be shaken at all. "Silence, assistant. I know what I need to do about him, and how much is suitable for this operation, understood?"

The scientist shook his head quickly, lowering it afterward.

The Principal got closer to Casper and then applied the drug to his neck.

The body of the soldier convulsed strangely, and he screamed, seeming to be in pain. His face got all red and he was showing the whites of the eyes, arching his back terribly.

Suddenly it stopped after some seconds, and both assistants sighed in relief. The Principal looked at Casper as if he knew all the time that everything would be okay.

The White warrior was not off of the mind-blank effect. He was more or less aware of everything that was happening around him. His body was all tingling, he could feel nothing at all, except an internal heat that enveloped all his body.

"I don’t know what exactly is off here, but that’s good. This way things will be easier, I guess." He sighed, relieved that everything went well.

He looked directly at the scientists gathering around him and pretended to still be a lot dizzy. He didn’t know what will happen next exactly, but one thing was a certainty: they would put that mask on him somehow.

Casper gave special attention to that fat guy.

"So, that’s the man, huh? Soon, you will see what’s the experiment that I will do on you, just wait for me."

The assistants began to do the procedure, connecting all kinds of devices on him, giving some medications, and measuring his body stats.

"Hmm, his brain activity is strangely high, are you sure that he isn’t awake, sir?"

"Yes. Don’t worry. That must be a collateral effect of the drug. Just keep going carefully."

They picked the black mask and connected it on the computer with a cable, bringing it towards Casper afterward.

The Principal encharged himself to put the mask on him, picking the mask from the scientist that had prepared it.

An assistant passed a strange oil all over Casper’s face. It had a strong smell and made him quite ticklish on the face. With time, his brain started to have a lot of different thoughts involuntarily, and he could not stop it.

"Double check his stats, take a look on the computer’s screen to see if everything will go well, and be prepared for an emergency." Ordered the Principal, then he slowly put the black mask on Casper’s face.

The soldier remained quiet for some time, completely immobile. The scientists apprehensively waited for something to happen.

One minute passed. Then ten minutes. The anxiety raised again.

"Isn’t it taking too long?" A woman pinpointed, worried.

At this time, Casper raised his upper body and sat at the bed, touching slowly his face.

Rolvur grinned, feeling proud of himself.

"No... The procedure succeeded."
