District 42-Chapter 392: An unexpected foe
Independence day had finally come to reality. What was before just a brief thought, a dream, an unreachable aspiration, of commoners, Jarls, and particularly Frelsis, became something that they could touch with their own hands and feel how it was like.
There wasn’t a single person that didn’t end up enjoying the feeling of being free, of being themselves, not just pieces of chess that one could move as they pleased.
"That’s the only thing that I came for in this world! That’s my only objective while I am still here with you! I just want you to be free again. I could say a lot of reasons why. Maybe that’s because a person I love really much is still among you all, and I can’t just save her and let the others behind because I know that I would be charged in the future for this...
"Sincerely, it might be as well just some sort of self-accomplishment thing, where I am just trying to pay for the sins that I committed in my past life. Maybe I am just trying to prove myself or get stronger, influential... Any of these things MAY be true, but something that IS true for sure is the fact that you all are now free from anything that chained you to this district, to this shitty king of yours, the Royal family... And I am doing it for free, because I know it’s the right thing to do, and nobody can take it back from you ever again."
Casper’s speech made everyone get silent once again. They yet needed to discover the soldier’s true intentions, but something was true: he gave them a right that nobody could take from them again. He chose only to give them the right to live by themselves, although he could just become a God himself.
The thing was that Casper didn’t need any of those things. He had Vick, he had new friends, and many things that he wanted to accomplish. That district gave him a lot of suffering, but also a lot of things that he wouldn’t be able to achieve in his past messed up life. That’s why he wanted so badly to change it.
He wanted that District 42 became a place where he could live with Vick, spend his days with his friends, and do everything that he felt like doing to make the life of other people even better.
"And to show you that I am not saying all these things just to take the candy from you after you accept me, I will do one more thing." He showed the card to them, "I will seal this phase of District 42 history with this..."
Suddenly, Gugnir began to evaporate in Casper’s hand, turning into ashes and being taken by the winds to a faraway place...
Everyone looked at it with an unfazed expression, some flabbergasted, others needed to rub their eyes one time or two to finally believe what they were seeing.
"This was the consequence I negotiated for my wish: destroy Gugnir, so it won’t be used by anyone again. So, like this, your rights won’t be changed by anyone. Not like when you wore those masks every day. That’s my very gift for you!"
Casper watched apprehensively as everyone looked at him still quiet, looking at each other with caution... However, they didn’t last long to change their faces and begin to celebrate right after.
It seemed like some sort of festival, or holiday or whatever the event that could brighten the moods of people.
That district with a heavy atmosphere and sadness in the air was now gone. People finally could just... enjoy.
Vick ran from the carriage she was in, her silky light blond hair waved in the air as she did so. It was a strain for her mind to run like that, but she didn’t care at all. She just felt like she needed to approach Casper no matter what.
When she was within range, she jumped in his arms, hugging him with all her strength as tears went down her eyes. Not tears of sadness this time, but of relief and happiness. She kissed him, praised him, and showed all her love over and over again until she got satisfied.
Nonetheless, all that happy environment wouldn’t last too long for the time being. They still needed to go through another challenge.
Among those who were happy about what happened, there was still someone who utterly hated it.
"ENOUGH!!!" The voice of King Leif echoed in that plaza, somehow overlapping the voices of everyone else.
"YOU ALL WILL REGRET THE REST OF YOUR LIVES FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!"
Leif was panting heavily, his eyes were glazed on everyone that was partying for what happened, but particularly fixated on Casper.
The White warrior got away from Vick to turn around and face the king. He cast a defiant look at him.
"And what will you do to stop us? Without Gungnir, you are nothing but a normal person. And now there are no masks for you to use and control everyone, even those who still follow you won’t be crazy to go against this many people!"
The King smiled maliciously.
"Who do you think I am? I obviously have someone whom I can still control. After all, who do you think that built him!?" The king pointed at MMA that was wearing a grim expression on his face.
"Even without the mask, MMA has full obedience towards me. That’s the only non-human thing that he has in his Programmation. Did you think I wouldn’t have control over my own cyborg and best warrior, Casper? You are dead wrong."
The Aesirs all turned to MMA who still kept looking down. Some of them even took steps back.
The Boss slowly raised his head and then his hands moved directly to his guns.
"I am sorry, everyone. I will be your foe on this last battle. Unexpected, I know... But I am really sorry..." He said in a mechanic voice as his eyes changed to those of a hitman.
