Chapter 304: The king and the queen

On the lastest floor of the Castle, which was unknown to most people, Canute and Vick broke through the room of the palace.

That place was a huge construction made of concrete and white marble. It was quite imponent, though it seemed to be off place and lonely on that empty floor.

That was the only floor in the Castle where you couldn’t go with a Teleporting pad. The only ones who could access it were a few people working for the Royal Family, those belonging to the bloodline, and the Aesirs (with an exception to Ivar, because of his black mask which didn’t let him go even to the floor where the Royal Family was settled).

The King and the Queen of District 42 would pass 99% of their time inside that palace, barely going out to see their own family. For them, most of the people working for the Royal Family, and some of the others who were connected with them by blood, were just pawns that they could use as they please.

The only person who they really cared about was Vick, and sometimes they would show to her their cold side. Both of them stayed on that palace controlling things under the folk’s nose, and it was an admirable ability of them since they needed to see the world like a huge gameboard in which they moved each piece meticulously to cause the effect they desired.

King Leif and Queen Freya were just like gods. They didn’t need to stand from their thrones to make things happen. Everyone would just lower their heads to them. People would think two times before saying something about them. They could see everything, control everything, and do anything.

Vick always got anxious and felt sick when visiting her father and mother, but that day her mind was so frantic that she couldn’t even think about it.

The entrance hall of the palace was very big. She needed to run with Canute supported on her shoulders for a good while until she got to the doors of the Throne room.

Those doors just opened when the security system recognized her face and GBI. When it happened, she continued her rush, even though her legs were shaking due to the effort.

Just a while ago she was hospitalized because of that poison. Her muscles weren’t prepared for such strain exerted on them.

"Mother! Father!" She yelled while running across the golden carpet leading to their Thrones.

Two figures were sitting on two marble thrones. One of the thrones was made of black and red marble, which stood out. The other followed the white pattern of the palace.

King Leif didn’t have a mask wore on. His face showed clearly how much old he was. One could say that the king was eighty years old already. His body wasn’t that of a weak old man, on the contrary, he had the constitution of a warrior.

A huge sword was lying beside his throne. It was encrusted with jewels and made of gold. His crown was hanging on its grip.

The king was resting his chin on his hand while supporting it on the throne arm. His face was bothered, even more now that he saw his daughter entering there and making this noise.

Queen Freya was beside him. Her behavior was much more relaxed and calm. She didn’t seem as stoic and brute as the king. She had smart eyes that followed her daughter and the Aesir supporting on her as if it was something normal.

Her body was delicate and youthful. She didn’t seem to have about the same age as Leif, but in truth, she was around her eighties as well. The time was gentle with her. Nonetheless, she wore a mask, differently from her husband.

Surprisingly, Raul appeared from behind her throne. It wasn’t unusual to see him around there, since he was one of the favorite servants of both the king and the queen, but Vick wasn’t expecting him to be there in such a situation. She was sure that he was still inside the mansion.

"It’s good to see you, my child," Freya said once they approached their thrones.

"It’s nice to see you, Your Highness." The blind butler bowed, smiling behind the mask.

The King didn’t greet them. He only allowed himself to nod slightly.

Vick kneeled on the ground to show respect, but also because her legs couldn’t take all that effort anymore. Canute fell to the ground together with her. His wounds were opening again, and he probably was in pain on his face right now.

The Princess was tired. She needed to breathe in and out for a while to be able to say something. Her lungs seemed to be burning. Out of the hospital, she couldn’t take her treatment to detoxify her body from the poison, which was something difficult to take out of her body.

She looked worried toward Canute for a moment but then changed her focus to her parents.

"Please, you need to do something about it. The Frelsis are destroying the Castle! Everything is crumbling under their power. We never thought that they would have so much strength these days. They are probably coming here to take Gung--" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Her pleading voice was cut when an explosion sounded on the entrance of the Throne room.

Nonchalantly, Leif looked towards the door of that room, which was now reduced to ashes and fragments.

The security system didn’t activate for some reason, so the people who broke through the palace could get there unscathed.

From the smoke covering the entrance, a woman with black long hair and green eyes walked slowly, her steps making a loud noise through the room.

Camilla smiled wryly while looking toward the pitiful figure of Vick on the ground. She squinted her eyes with both hatred and joy mixed inside them.

"It’s a pity, Princess, but you got here too late, I suppose. I am sorry, but I will need to take the lead in this conversation for a while. Do you mind?"
